    The Dead - 2007

Once again England fail to score a try Until the rules are changed to reward the scoring of tries to such an extent that kicking has less influence in the outcome of a game it doesn't matter. I am sure as a neutral you enjoyed the game despite the lack of tries. We all know the 'big one' is tonight. What do you reckon Dave to the Grave?

    Thatcher's First Ministry

If a car crash is symptomatic for losing ones marbles then the asylums must be stuffed to the gunwales! He's getting on isn't he? I know there are all sorts of reasons for crashing cars (he may have had a tipple, but then we would know about that) so I'm plumping for early Senile Dementia. Either that or he was distracted by a cat or was fumbling for a CD...

    Damn, won't anyone die?

What, to die, or to start that thread? Arf! Preferably the next one to die will also be on my list or even on my list and not on the Deathlist. I which case 'Damn, won't anyone die' is just a self-pitying whine from yours truely....

    Damn, won't anyone die?

Thought I'd revive this thread as its been SEVEN weeks since dear Bill was our last hit... It's been a funny year: feast and famine. And have we actually done a guess the tenth hit yet? I have the feeling we haven't because we were so jaded putting up the list and then someone dropping dead! Any volunteers?

    Ronnie Hazlehurst

Interesting that the Guardian didn't include the tune to 'To the Manor Born' - it would have confused people, as it is essentially the same tune as Yes Minister.... I have to say 'Some Mothers..' is one of his lesser efforts. But the whole title sequence/music of that programme is a bit of a miss...Compare that to the contemporaneous Doctor Who theme/title from 1973...and they really are from different universes presentation-wise... .......and they are also from different universes content wise. The "Some mothers" theme was probably spot on for the programme. Hmmm..true.... Thinking about it, if I sat down and expectantly watched a sci-fi show for kids and saw a title sequence of a brown paper strip, accompanied by a limp penny whistle, I'd feel short changed... Just as a adjunct point, I always thought John Barry's peerless tune to The Persuaders! was ill matched to both the programme content and the title sequence. Instead imagine the said sequence with the tune of 'Man about the House', that's more like it!

I hope for his sake he didn't leave from Stansted. says he died after a long illness. What is defined as being a long illness? I mean when does it get decided from being a short illness to becoming a long one? Perhaps it started out as a short illness, but then had to wait for f****n' ages at the carousel and it became a long illness!

We're gonna get this sh*t for the next 6 months.... Daily Express must have a permanent hard-on with this going on. ...and Madeline too. f**k Lord Beaverbrook! I might try an avoid ALL news programmes for the forseeable future...let me know when the World ends...

My vote goes to God Save the Queen. Hazlehurst in those bondage trousers was quite a sight. Its funny you should say that harrymac, because I've just bought 'Anarchy in the UK' 7" vinyl today and then I get involved in a debate regarding the relative merits of the French and British entrants for the Eurovision Song Contest of 1977. What a crazy, mixed-up postmodernist world we live in today, huh?

Terrible news; Armitage Shanks in crying into his fourth pint of mild of the morning as we speak. "he conducted the British Eurovision entry on seven occasions ... as well as the German entry in 1977. In 1977, he famously conducted Lynsey de Paul and Mike Moran's "Rock bottom" with a rolled-up umbrella instead of a baton". Chap! They wuz robbed! By the last French winner of the Eurovision Song Contest..... Ronnie in action. I think the best song won. Hmmm..not bad...Those were the days when France, UK, Germany and that where always placed high in ESC. Not anymore.... I've noticed there are videos of the other entrants to 1977. Maybe Deathlist should have a re-stage of the Contest of 1977 and have a vote.....maybe not!

    Old Folkies Home

In hospital and seriously ill. Tour cancelled and nature of illness not disclosed. Ticking all the right boxes in the "might die soon" catagory. Was thinking about him the other day as a possible.....he hasn't got a leg to stand on!

    Room Lovely, Look You.

As one of life's Skyless minions all this Jeff Stelling talk is over my head. Spare a thought for us terrestrials. It's like a clique within a clique. It's a bit sad in fact that any TV programme should feature in a thread about the best things in life. I haven't felt so excluded since we were the last family down our street to get BBC2 and I had to listen to everybody else going on about Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. "Very eenteresting, but stupid!" I even know the catch phrases but never saw it. How sad is that? Don't worry Godot, there's tons of 'popular' things that aren't on my radar - Sopranos, Adam Sandler, Harry Potter, 24....

grrrrr I mentioned him a couple of times in the ideas and possibilities threads, but couldn't find much info on his health All this talk of Ronnie's has got me thinking of this...The Two Ninnies!

I'm going to add to the chorus of approval for Jeff Stelling - he really is the business! I've not seen Soocer Saturday for a bit as I don't have Sky and Virgin have taken Sky Sports off. Instead I either have to go through the interminable Score on BBC Interactive with 'Eeyore' Palmer and co.... ...or watch a match via Sopcast @ 3pm on a Saturday! (mum's the word)

Formula 1 & Other Motor Racing

I can assure you that Lewis Hamilton most certainly is not gay. I've heard the rumours, and know where they are and have been coming from. He is most certainly not in love with Adrian Sutil either. Basically, compare professional Lewis to Jenson Button. JB loves his womanising, but look at his career - in more sh*t than a cowpat collector. There's nobody gay on the F1 grid now. Mike Beuttler (British 70's driver) was, but I really don't want to go into a full-length discussion on this. ....it's a MAN's sport grrrrrr!

Apparently he's up to his ears in Escorts (and I don't mean of the Ford variety) Hmmmm...doth protest too much? I thinking Walliams here... What? He's gay? Not too sure how he's avoided press attention on that one. Mind, who cares, hell of a drive yesterday. Not so much avoid as deflect, by seemingly being on the arm of a luvverly lady at a rate of one a week.... Still, can't knock his driving, even though it does seem too easy for him....

    Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists

Just two days after another 1968 Olympic men's field event champion, Hungarian hammer thrower Gyula Zsivótzky. Interesting.....I was about to posit a theory about athletes who competed at the high altitude of Mexico City in 1968. Peter Norman, Silver Medalist in the 200m, died a year ago. The only other I know for sure that had heart problems as a result of taking part in those games was Australian distance runner Ron Clarke...
