Pretty much all the rest really. According to The Observer, JK Galbraith seems in good enough form at 97. At the most a couple on the list may go before New Years Eve, but don't ask me who... As for next year, Pinter, Ross Davidson, Scott Hamilton, Ricardo Montalban, John Spencer, Joe Longthorne and Gough Whitlam have to be considered...

Yes. I'm entering next years. Don't forget John 'Face to Face' Freeman either. 91 next year... -
This rantings by the unregistered are of the same sort of mentality as those who write to the Mail about lapsing standards and swearing on the telly. May I remind you that Ms Tomlinson has effectively made her name by announcing that she was going to peg it.

To mis-quote Oscar Wilde: For a country to have one despot is unfortunate, to have two is plain bloody careless!

Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Hurricanes, Mudslides

A bit more of that wouldn't go amiss... I see that Mark Whatisface from ITN has darted to the death scene quick-as-a-flash. And to think that some people think we are all sick for going on this website. Wouldn't it be great, considering the year we're having, that we go through a whole year without some big bleeding event going on. You know: No earthquakes, tidal waves, bomb blasts, political deaths/resignations, royal deaths/scandal, health scares, famines, coups, revolutions etc. We would have the spectacle of all those journos scuttling around looking for scraps of news to fill their programmes with, while we all get on with life, love and the pursuit of happiness without distractions... -
Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Hurricanes, Mudslides

You wouldn't want to go there anyway - there's a war on you know! The point I was making was that journos seem to rather overplay reports of the bleeding obvious. 'There's a disaster' they cry. Yes, we know! All systems are in place, or at least should be in place, to deal with that kind of disaster. There's no need to labour the point, particularly in view of the Tsunami, which has somewhat raised the bar as far as disasters are concerned. But be it Russian school seiges, Tube bombs, earthquakes or whatever, TV journos report in the same, pompous, emotive, trill way as ever. They might as well report from the scene and play 'Waltzing Matilda' repeatedly with a banjo, for all the difference they make. This is a consequence of 24-7 news reporting - indifference.... -

Apparently there were fears of another tremor earlier today. But it turned out to be a false alarm - it was only the rumble of journalists/bloggers rubbing their hands.... -

November 22nd 1990 was the real big day when she announced her resignation. A day I'll never forget. Funnily enough, my Parents were probably the first in Britian to know this, as they were listening to Irish radio on shortwave when they heard the news. They rushed to the TV, but there was no announcement in Britian untill shortly after.

Reading in the Independent an interview with Harold Pinter, who turns 75 at the weekend. The piece described him as frail and walking with the aid of a stick, although he has written a new radio play. Apparently he's been fighting cancer of the oesophagus for three years. That particular cancer is difficult to beat. John Thaw died from it. A stick on for '06 if he holds out. Here's the link: http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/theatre...ticle317672.ece
