    Michael Jackson

So here's a question to consider: did he die young or not? And if so, is this going to change how he will be viewed in decades to come?

    Michael Jackson

I lol'd. No, seriously, this is a big death, isn't it? Definitely by far the most notable death this year so far and probably one of the most notable of this entire decade, no joke.

Who, Henry Allingham? Going on the last video from BBC it wouldn't surprise me, but what sources? Can't really say because of confidentiality, but my source is from people who work in the nursing home he lives in. Oh well, it was a good run anyway. 113 years is a pretty impressive age to live to. When he goes, there will be a maximum of just four confirmed WWI veterans left... I wonder how long it will be before the last one goes, and who the last one will be...

Who, Henry Allingham? Going on the last video from BBC it wouldn't surprise me, but what sources? Probably Iain. And who is Iain, a relative of Allingham's?

It's not good to really celebrate Tanabe's death, but it is good that Allingham has reached #1 for males in the entire world...

    Banksy

I don't think Banksy is a serious candidate for dying anytime soon.

    John Tyndall & Nick Griffin

If he does receive death threats, maybe we should consider Nick Griffin for DeathList 2010.

    John Tyndall & Nick Griffin

I wonder if there is a credible chance of Nick Griffin being assassinated. Probably not, but you never know.

    Killed Bill... Hahaha, good one.

    World War I Veteran(s)

Just like the English all wear top hats, suits and monocles and drink tea, the Scots all wear kilts, toss cabers, play bagpipes and eat haggis and drink whisky. Actually though, there is a Spain's Got Talent and you're probably right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Got_Talent_series#Spain Anyway, this is getting offtopic for the purpose of this particular thread.

Looks like Scotland has got a taste for coming first now . Could be the first death outside the Americas, then... It's spread pretty rapidly across the world, I must say... apparently the pandemic comes in the autumn (I haven't seen that word in a long time on this Americanocentric internet...)

Yeah, he really does look on his last legs in that video I gotta say. I mean, just look at his hand, and the way his neck is bent over. Let's hope he survives until Saturday at least anyway. Question: Are the likes of WWI veterans, supercentenarians, etcetera eligible candidates for Death List? It's the "candidates cannot be famous purely for the fact they are likely to die soon" line that gets me. Would that mean that some especially notable supercentenarians (like Henry) might be eligible but others who are barely notable (and unlikely to get UK obit) would obviously not be suitable candidates? Also, does the rule 'UK obituary' apply to any mention of the person's death in mainstream UK media as a form of a passing news story, or only an actual full obituary that looks back at their life?

    Susan Boyle

What is it with Gordon Brown commenting on these lowest common denominator reality TV stars? Firstly he made a statement when Jade Goody died, and now this? I mean seriously, are these people that important that the prime minister has to talk about them? (To his voter base, probably yes...)

This is a pretty significant one in terms of last survivors of something.

    The Dead Of 2009

Some interesting posts since I last commented here about 2009 being a bad year for the deathlist. I remember it was slow to start in 2007. I think when there is a year that has many significant deaths like 2008, some of the big picks can no longer be put on the following year's list and as such causes a slow start.

    The Dead Of 2009

Is it just me, or have there not really been that many significant deaths this year so far? Compared to last year at least, or even the year before. Name me one 'big' death this year so far. Have there even been any signifcant, predictable deaths this year that we did not get? (Apart from Jade Goody who should 100% definitely have been on the list this year). Let's be realistic, Wendy Richard is a significant death but she's no Harold Pinter, Albert Hoffman, etc. in terms of her international fame. Dai Llewellyn is a nobody in terms of worldwide recognition, although he was a well spotted choice for this year's list.

Henry Allingham amazes me. He really does. But is he going to make it to his 113th birthday? Yes, it's soon. But he's only the second oldest person in the UK and the second oldest man in the world. He could die at any time. Nonetheless, I hope he presents a challenge to Jeanne Calment. I'm not even English, but I do think it would be epic if he achieved this... http://images.encyclopediadramatica.com/im...ham_calment.jpg

Irate Visitors Rage Here, If You Must.

I don't see how people can actually be offended by this site. If they are, then they've got a weak constitution. There's way, way more offensive stuff than this out there on the internet than a simple deadpool website discussing when notable people are likely to die. This place is a pretty civilised and polite community. I mean, you could be looking for all kinds of f**ked-up porn or Neo-Nazi websites, or even worse, Encyclopedia Dramatica... This place is tame. I'm glad for it.

Fings Aint Wot They Used To Be..

Nothing. That's life. People die, jobs change, and life transforms into others things. Everything dies. If you want my honesty, the past means nothing to me. It's crumbs off of a table. It doesn't matter. If you want something, go find it. I guess at some capacity you will always keep certain interests or friends but in the end we must look towards what is to come. Life changes and you must change with it. There is a beauty to that. This. The only constant is change. You can fight against the flow, but you'll have limited success.

    40. Josef Fritzl

It's clear that the Fritzl case has sparked others to twig that one their locals has been doing very bad things... ...or is it more likely that these things happen all the time and that the Fritzl case has risen this particular kind of story higher up the media agenda? A bit like when there was a rash of stories about dangerous dogs in the late 80s, which prompted the goverment to introduce the Dangerous Dogs Act. I wonder if the governments of the world will be doing the same thing - The Dangerous Dads Act? Lol, yeah... It's funny, but it's also a serious issue. Not all men are rapists or pedophiles or misogynists or violent - in fact, these are an absolute minority. Creating paranoia about men is not unnecessary; it is dangerous. I saw this Daily Mail commenter who said she was scared of all men. Just WTF? You know, most men are not like that...
