I was vaguely aware that Van Doren wasn't the only one, but could never have named names - strangely enough I've got Quiz Show lined up in my watchlist to watch this weekend, I wonder if that expands on others or is limited to Van Doren. Never knew that about Jeopardy either; I'll take interesting facts about TV shows for $200 please Alex.

Elfrida von Nardroff has died aged 96. She was a quiz show contestant on "Twenty-One" in 1958, who won more than any other contestant, thanks to the tried and trusted practice of feeding her the correct answers beforehand. She ammassed $220,500 over the course of several months - equivalent to $2.1million today.

These Chibnall stories are getting more and more preposterous...

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

Starting on 'Succession'; I've been reading so many good things about it, its bound to be a disappointment. -
Petula Clark is still appearing in Cameron Mackintosh's production of Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward in London. She celebrated her 89th birthday there last month. Granted, this doesn't mean she'll see her 90th.

@christhebarker's 2021 "Sgt. Pepper" cover - see how many you can identify! (there's a key in the following tweet if you get stuck).

I did manage to last until Christmas day a couple of years ago, mainly by being a miserable git and not watching broadcast tele or listening to popular radio and being in control of the music at work. In the interests of full disclosure I heard six seconds of it the other day by clicking on a spoof BoJo clip concerning last years Christmas Party. I assume even six seconds is enough to eliminate me.

Tomorrow is Richard O'Sullivan day yesterday, i.e. today. Actually make that tomorrow is Richard O'Sullivan day the day before yesterday, i.e. yestreday, as its just turned midnight. Or simply, Askwith's tweet is dated 9 Dec, so RO'S day would be the 10th. It would appear you're right about the cricket though. Thank god there's no Aussies frequenting these boards these days.

Don't panic! He's still with us but it is, for reasons I'm not clear on, #richardosullivanday on the twitter:

Falls (no pun intended) under several of the adjectives describing this topic -
The death of General Bipin Rawat has been confirmed.

Good BBC write-up on Gulpilil here (to take your mind of other things)

Who was?

I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave some moments ago. This reached number 10 in the UK, so most definitely a hit. You'd probably recognise High Fly too.
-
He did - He'd previously hit number 17 with High Fly, then after Music number 32 with Remember Yesterday and number 10 with Slow Down. But then the hits didn't so much slow down as stop. Music was his only Dutch hit, no idea if the others were released there.

I actually own the Hotel California Album (on cassette), which I requested as a birthday present back when it was new. I haven't listened to it in years precisely because I got so fed up of that track.
-
Absolutely, I've got a few myself - Hotel California, Sweet Home Alabama, Believe & All Summer Long to name but a few; the thing is I probably didn't start off hating them, but grew to through sheer overexposure, whereas some others I can't have too much of.
