As for previous years, my shortlist doesn't exist; I'm consistent like that.

This has just appeared on my timeline, probably worth a post (or a repost, I've a feeling I might have posted it before)
-
Anyway, not sure, so I'll Ask Aspel.

With Una Stubbs and Lionel Blair both gone in fairly quick succession, Michaels Aspel and Parkinson are probably looking over their shoulders nervously.

With only 22 shopping days till Christmas, I thought it might be an opportune time to share with other DL'ers ideas for Christmas gifts... I don't mean I-pods or I-pads (or even eye pads), but those marvellous items like we used to get in the the old Barclaycard magazines, things we didn't know we ever needed. I'll start the ball rolling with the Darts Hand Xtensor, a device designed to strengthen your hands in order to become a better darts player (though I'd imagine that even if you don't play darts, there are a multitude of other reasons you may need to strengthen your hands), and only £39.99!

William Lucking (an old Scavenger Hunt pick) who played Piney Winston in Sons of Anarchy, dead aged 80. Eta - He was in SH II as a Kevin Bacon co-star, but not picked this round though qualifying through his Star Trek appearances.

Owen Paterson resigns

Former Airbus chief executive Jean Pierson has died aged 80. He took Airbus from a consortium of independent aircraft companies to compete on the world stage against Boeing during his tenure from 1985 to 1998, the longest anyone has held the position. Reportedly dropped his trousers when US Airways demanded a discount on its already-agreed order.

There's an old (US) article on that very subject here. A more recent one here, though that has more of an emphasis on the risks of premature publication of such obituaries. Associated Press had one prepared for Britney Spears when she was 26.

I'm surprised, amongst all those replies. no-one has mentioned his helmet. -
Dorothy Manley, mentioned here and nowhere else, but is a current DDP selection, has died aged 94.

I know most outlets have obits at the ready for certain of the great & good, it always amuses me when the author of such an obituary predeceases his/her subject. I only reported this because it seemed a very un-Guardianlike subject; Mr. Holland's only previous foray into Guardian obits was earlier this year, that of Lyn Macdonald who it appears had a common interest in wartime history (though differing wars).
-
The Guardian straying into Telegraph territory with this obit of Stan Perry, last surviving officer from The Sherwood Rangers, the regiment with the most battle honours of the second world war. Wounded during D-Day action, he returned to battle and was almost killed by shrapnel. Following the war he was a first regular for ale RFC and worked for Unilever creating new ice-cream flavours. He was 97.

Alf Patrick won't see 101, having died this morning.

Former Ferrari & Williams aerodynamicist Antonia Terzi killed in car crash (of the motorway variety), aged 50. She left F1 some years back moving to Bentley, then into academia, and was about to take up a Professorship in Australia.

If not Nilsson himself, at least his flat should feature.

Another bull run, another fatality. The first since covid-19 restrictions were lifted.

I wondered why Benny Hill was trending in 'Politics'; first thing I found when I checked: -

No, but some people (no names, no pack-drill) don't mention the name of the deceased in their posts, thus, the search function doesn't find it. This has been mentioned previously (or , if you like) -
