WelI I was beginning to think the old sod was immortal. I've picked him every year since 2014 (except 2017 when my entry got lost in the post), and apart from a couple of years with the old Minions of Xuleneb team, always unique. -
It's seven years since form Aussie PM Gough Whitlam died, aged 98. Yes, I do have the t-shirt.

Happy 90th birthday to my DDP pick "Young Jim" -
Probably the same person who impersonated Abdulrazak Gurnah and announced Wole Soyinka had died last week.

American martial artist Roy Horan, who appeared in a few films back in the 70s & 80s, appearing in Bruce Lee & Jackie Chan films, and later becoming a film executive, as well as being father of Celina Jade (no, me neither), has died aged 71.

Former Test & ODI umpire Fred Goodall of New Zealand has died aged 83. Standing in 24 tests and 15 ODIs, he's most remembered for the second test of the 1980 series against the West Indies, when they refused to to emerge after tea unless he was immediately replaced. They were eventually persuaded to do so by the NZ captain, Geoff Howarth, but after several more decisions went against them, bowler Colin Croft ran into him at the end of the bowling run-up; he maintained it was an accident. Goodall was also reportedly the youngest ever Test umpire, aged 27 when he first officiated. -
When I was born my first name was amongst the most popular half-a-dozen in the country; its hovering around the 350-400 mark having really fallen in popularity over the past couple of decades or so.

Easily top; the Mohammed spelling (32nd place) accounts for 1615 which totals 4325, 100 more than number 1, Oliver.

Yes I see names that I think must be typos and then think probably not, its just 'wacky' parents being 'individual'. Or they're typos. "Aadam" is, I think a muslim variation of "Adam". Kacper, and a few other names beginning with K are of Eastern European origin (the rest presumably being of Kardashian origin). Full data (England & Wales) here

Thread here on names registered in 2020, no Carols* or Nigels*, but plenty of Hallie-maes, Kylos & Kaidens *Caveat - ONS only tells us name registered if there were three or more occurrences

Posting the death of Denise Bryer here, as voice acting was what she was chiefly famous for.

Sri Lanka's first test captain Bandura Warnapura has died aged 68, of a heart attack following a leg amputation necessitated by complications of diabetes. He was later banned from cricket for 25 years for leading a 'rebel' tour to South Africa, in defiance of anti-apartheid sanctions. -
That's Alan Birchenall, rather than anyone else. The good news is (or not, depending...) that he's home (also according to Twitter sources) and was taken to hospital as a precaution. He was a big campaigner for defibrillators in public places following a cardiac arrest almost 5 years ago.

Ronnie Tutt, who played drums for Elvis, amongst others, dead at 83.
