When you hear that beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
-
I remember those days; I once finished two weeks of lates, finishing at 0230, and immediately starting two weeks of earlies starting at 0600. Three and a half hours between shifts. Like you, my choice (though forced by circumstances). Probably one of my least productive days ever (at least without the encumbrance of a hangover). I never liked earlies at the best of times.

It would also stop me getting my hopes up by reading James instead of Henry.

Seems I never voted in the fourth death poll, so I'll get in early this time round. I was tempted to go for GH Bush, but went for our UK elder statesman Lord Carrington instead.

Harry Anderson, of Night Court fame, dead at 65. Also some memorable guest appearances in Cheers.

Thirty-four years ago Richard Hurndell followed William Hartnell for the last time.

Just in case there's someone here who never looks at other websites...

Patty sounds like a hamburger, Pat sounds like cowshit, however both are legitimate abbreviations of Patricia (yuk) and both Kate and Katy (Katie) are legitimate abbreviations of Katherine. I'm with you on unnecessary 'eeee' sounds to lengthen a name as in Annie, Paulie, Petey etc.

Spot on, apart from the 'fat'.

Don't forget Lord Percy.

you forgot to add for 1960. How many people would name their daughter Brenda or Connie or Janice or Rhonda? Or their son Douglas, Dennis or Raymond? As for Madison, I'll give you that the rise in use for a girl's name was triggered by Splash, but your assertion that it wasn't a name at all is incorrect. Wikipedia: As a masculine given name, Madison can be found within the top 1,000 names for boys in the United States up until about 1952. Madison returned to the top 1,000 ranked names for boys in 1987, remaining there through 1999, and it also was the 858th-most-common name for boys in 2004, but it remains uncommon as a masculine given name.[3] Even one of Thomas Jefferson's bastard sons was named Madison.

I met someone named Destiny once; made me think of Captain Scarlet. Also, her kids will be known as Destiny's Child. Eta - is this a normal name or a mumsnet type name? I'm not sure.

I could have put up the Fox News link!

See also 'cheeky', as in 'cheeky Nandos'.

Timmy Matley of the Overtones (not an Undertones tribute act apparently) dead at 36. Had been suffering from skin cancer, but reportedly fell from a balcony in London.
-
Keith Murdoch, former All-black, who was the first NZ player to be sent home from a tour (1972), after a fracas at a Cardiff hotel, died 30 March aged 74. He never played rugby again, leading a nomadic, somewhat reclusive, lifestyle eschewing media attention.
