If you're not a fan of Hodgkin's work, how about that of Lawrence Holofcener, who died on March 4th, a little past his 91st birthday. Visitors to London may have seen this: "Allies", located in Bond Street, unveiled by Princess Margaret in 1995. As well as being an accomplished sculptor, Holofcener also painted, acted and composed - he co-wrote, with Jerry Bock, Mr. Wonderful starring Sammy Davis Jr. and for Sid Caser's Your Show of Shows.

The accident happened at Withington Community Hospital, where there is no A&E. One casualty was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital 4.8 miles away, and one Manchester Royal Infirmary, 4 miles away. Withingon specialises in dermatology, urology, audiology and ENT, so probably not a great help in dealing with trauma. -

Former French Prime Minister Aristide Briand died 75 years ago, aged soixente-neuf. He served 11 terms as PM, was Nobel Peace Prize co-laureate in 1926, and wore an impressive moustache. In 1929, when Foreign Minister, he proposed to the League of Nations the formation of a Federal European Union*, to co-ordinate economic and political policies. Little progress was made as Europe divided into two camps during the thirties, but, post WWII, his ideas were revisited, leading to the EEC and ultimately, the European Union. *The link leads to a French language document

I'm a 'burnt' guy generally, but according to my OED (The New Edition for The 1990's), they're the same past tense & past participle of 'burn' (as in fire, not the Scottish stream). I can't think of a situation where I'd favour 'burned' of 'burnt'. Same with dreamt/dreamed.

I can see Morbiddik going the same way as Zorders. Very soon.

Probably, his date of birth was unverifiable - what was record-keeping like in 1900 Kurdistan?

Nelson Eddy wasn't calling anyone after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage whilst perfoming on stage and dying a few hours later, 50 years ago. As well as leaving a legacy of a multitude of films (notably starring alongside Jeanette MacDonald 8 times) TV and music recordings, his name lives on in the pantheon of cockney rhyming slang.
