    105 years since William IV, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, wasn't feeling so grand, dying aged 59, after a little over 6 years reign. He was the last ruler to die 'in office', subsequent Grand Dukes/Duchesses have all abdicated.

    German sculptor Fritz Koenig has died aged 92. His 1971 sculpture The Sphere, which was located between the twin towers of the World Trade Center, survived the 9/11 attack and was relocated to Battery Park and dedicated as a memorial to the victims.

    Ritchie died 7 years to the day after another Stoke City, legend, Sir Stanley Matthews. Despite there being more than a quarter of a century age difference, Matthews and Ritchie played alongside each other at Stoke. Like Ritchie, Matthews also had two separate spells at Stoke.

    I'm impressed that Trump knew of these riots two days before they happened.There was no 'incident' on Friday night, which is what Trump claimed. Of course, I'm always willing to admit I'm wrong if indeed something did happen on Friday night. As it stands, Trump was wrong (again).

    580 years ago James I of Scotland was assassinated aged 42, during a failed coup, led by his Uncle, Walter Stewart, Earl of Atholl. During the first 18 years of his reign, from the age of 12, he was held hostage by the English, for whom he fought against the French, which made him unpopular in Scotland as Scots were fighting with the French.

  16. I don't think I'd like to meet any of them as they are now, but would have probably enjoyed a pint with John Noakes in his heyday (except that in his actual heyday, I wasn't old enough to drink, but you get the general idea). Same goes for Leslie Phillips.

    It was a wrap for documentary film maker John Grierson who died 45 years ago, aged 73. Credited with coining the term 'documentary', and considered the father of British and Canadian documentaries, the Grierson awards are named in his honour.
