I don't 'hate' Orinoco Flow, it just irritates me; its the sort of stuff which I'd expect to be playing behind the walls of some new-age pseudo-religious cult. Madonna is very 'meh' imho. I like The Bangles, but this is one of their weaker songs, and all matters Carlisle I'll leave to mpfc.

Barbar Bhatti (aka Babar Bhatti) is 74 today. A British actor of Pakistani descent, his first acting role, and the one he's most famous for, was as the punkah wallah in It Ain't Half Hot Mum. Few parts followed and he left acting in 1981, his last role being a restaurant owner in Only Fools & Horses. He subsequently became an insurance salesman.

It's 18 years since the death of Harry Baird, actor, born in British Guiana (now Guyana). His film debut was in A Kid for Two Farthings (1955) and stage roles follwoed, but he was often cast in low-budget jungle/African themed films. He had recurring roles in TV's Danger Man and UFO but is probably best known for the part of Big William, the coach driver who manages to park the coach half over a cliff at the end of The Italian Job (1969). He retired from acting following 1975's Four of The Apocalypse, when glaucoma rendered him blind, and died of cancer aged 73.

It's 38 years since the death of Nicholas Colosanto, actor & director, best known as 'Coach' Ernie Pantusso in Cheers. He was diagnosed with heart disease in his 50s, exacerbated by 20 years of alcoholism, following which he gave up drinking, joining Alcoholics Anonymous. It became difficult to secure work owing to his declining health (his last film role being Tommy Como in 1980's Raging Bull), and he was contemplating retirement before being offered the role of Coach in Cheers. He appeared in 70 episodes over three seasons, his last being recorded in late 1984. He was admitted to hospital shortly after Christmas 1984 with water in his lungs; shortly after his discharge he died at home from a heart attack, aged 61.

A local covers band regularly includes this in their set. Goes down well, especially with people of a certain age!
