wowzers, Gord Downie made the cut. Pretty solid list.

Jeez, he must be REALLY old. Rumour has it he's actually a zombie, so I'm not sure if he's eligible for the deathlist after all. Now that all of my credibility is gone, I will correct myself and say he designed the 'Louvre pyramid'

Also, Peter Falk has Alzheimer's... I forgot to mention...

I guess it's time I make my annual [dis]appearance on this site. I'll skip names that aren't really famous outside of Canada (Gord Downie, Bryan Murray or PM John Turner), so here are my suggestions: Ingvar Kamprad: IKEA founder- Recent broken hip (though recovered), battled ill health all year, turned 90 Aretha Franklin: Singer- Cancelling lots of shows all year long because of undisclosed ill health (despite weight loss) Morrissey: Singer- Still has cancer, still fighting it, still cancelling shows, worth a punt. Pete Way: Guitarist- Had prostate cancer, heart attack a few months ago, string of rock-n-roll lifestyle health problems (No idea if he's famous in the UK, but he was born there so I'll mention him anyway) Beverly Cleary: Author (Ramona the Pest)- old, but not sure if my favourite books from childhood were popular across the pond. Gillian Anderson: X-Files- Pancreatic Cancer (Ha! Made you look!) I.M. Pei: Archtect- Not an original suggestion (I've seen his name in a few signatures over the years), but a prominent architect (designed the Louvre) turns 99 and requires round-the-clock health monitoring. That's all that comes to top-of-mind. All others have been suggested already (Gregg Allman, King of Romania, etc.)

The Police in the US are all armed, I assume, and its bloody obvious that some will not have the temperament to carry a loaded gun, will lack the calm considered approach, will have poor decision making and will be easily spooked in a tense or potentially difficult situation. Its not just US citizens that need greater vetting to carry a firearm their f ucking Police need to have a serious look at whether every officer has the mental capacity to carry one and not fire it at somebody because they had a facial tic episode infront of them. I never reply to these types of discussions (especially on forums called something like deathlist), but I agree with you here; the police in the states are corrupted by lack of regulation. Anyone who's heard of the Stanford experiment knows that the problem isn't that police are jerks, they're just normal citizens given a carte blanche of authority, and when that happens it doesn't matter who they are. Take a guy off the street, give him a badge and a gun, boom, there's a cop. As well, civilians need to learn that personally hating the police really doesn't accomplish anything (nor is it revolutionary). They should hate the lack of regulation on police actions.

Are we not gonna talk about the shooting in Dallas, where 11 police officers were shot (5 killed) by protesters?

Two skydivers died during the Olympic Rings aerial performance (intended to be part of the opening ceremony) The cause of death: jumping out of a plane and hitting the ground
