Oscar is getting better daily and his kidney functionality is heading towards full improvement. Sorry to get your hopes up (Though, if the past is any indication, celebrities tend to get positive health press just before corking it. So stay tuned.)
-
No it doesn't. However, his condition is serious according to his physician, Fernando Gjorup.

Wow, another death? With the crowd barely back into their seats. I'm going with Oscar Niemeyer for the 5th time in a row.

The 2L bottle of Sprite wasn't enough- for the second time in a month, he's been admitted to hospital for 'dehydration'. He is in stable condition with the help of a gastric tube. No release date has yet been set. [EDIT] Hey, my status has been upgraded from Sniper to Bomber. Cool beans.

Went with Niemeyer. -
Renown Chinese artist and film illustrator Tyrus Wong (whose most famous work was for the movie Bambi in 1942) turned 102 this year.

My excitement was all for naught. Oscar's doctor says he's a little dehydrated and is doing fine. At 104 a minor 'nausea condition' can escalate into so much more. So they gave him a glass of water and he was fine? No it was alot more serious than that , he wasn't obeying his thrist demon. They needed a 2 litre bottle of sprite . He must've finally finished his 2L bottle as he has been discharged from hospital.

Turns 86 today and is still performing concerts (including one last night). The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a week-long celebration of Chuck Berry's career, capping off this weekend with another live performance by Chuck himself. Suffice to say, he's quite active, may not be a good qualifier for DL 2013.

Oscar has been hospitalized since the weekend but the illness has yet to be released.

Went with Zsa Zsa this time.

Townes is still in very good health for his age, and he's still very active (he's still mobile and publishing papers). Anything could happen at age 96 (falls can be fatal), but I'm not betting on him going anytime soon. (I think he'll surpass Bethe as the oldest Physics Nobel laureate) Among all the older Nobel laureates, I'd bet against him and Chen Ning Yang dying. The others probably have higher chances of dying. Charles received the Golden Goose award recently. Although, he is much less active now, as his latest lecture was given more than 5 years ago, and he is turning 98 next year. Could potentially be a contender for DL 2013. Chen Ning Yang, has recently had a celebration for his 90th birthday which is coming up in October, but seems to be doing well and is still highly active in his field. So you're most likely right about his longevity. -

Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson, hospitalized with unknown condition but appears to be 'doing well'. He was also hospitalized last year with a broken hip, and has only made it to one game since the accident. Perhaps it's the end(zone) for the 93 year-old. -
84-year old German author Günter Grass, winner of the 1999 Nobel Prize in Literature, was hospitalized in Germany with heart problems. (Sorry if this was posted elsewhere, the forum search didn't bring up any recent updates)

Not much news on her current health, however, these photos from last year depict her as being wheelchair bound. At 74 years old, she's been suffering from Parkinsons for over 17 years. Could be a possible candidate for DL 2013?

Probably not obit-worthy in the UK, but Paul Henderson (Canadian hockey hero from the Canada-Soviet summit series) has been battling a rare form of leukemia for quite some time.
-
Working on a new album/documentary. Scheduled for release in September- it might just be enough incentive to motivate him and keep him alive a little longer. Hopefully he'll last until 2013.
-
One of Robert's biggest fans, author Heidi Holland who had chronicled Mugabe's life in the book "Dinner with Mugabe", has been found dead of an apparent suicide.
-
Gabriel Garcia Marquez, author of literary masterpiece '100 years of Solitude', has been suffering from dementia for a long time despite his good physical health.
-
Summit Series hero, Paul Henderson, (as mentioned before) has a rare form of leukemia has spread and is now 'living on a death sentence' with 'not much time left'. Hopefully he holds out until 2013.

People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive

Read an article celebrating the 98th birthday of Irwin Corey- I would have guessed he died decades ago. He can't have too much time left- and he's definitely famous enough to meet Deathlist obit criteria. Perhaps another candidate for DL2013 (Unless he dies 2 hours after this post like my previous recommendation) -
Went for Herman Wouk.
-
Apparently the reports of his poor health are inaccurate. Such articles always seem to be released just before the subject matter dies. It's only a matter of time before I get my 5th hit of the year.

For those of you with obscure/abstract celebrities on their lists, you'll be pleased to hear that Indian wrestler-turned-actor, Dara Singh, has been hospitalized for "a blood clot in his brain or a heart attack" and is in critical condition.
