A new device, cleverly called the iBrain, is slowly being developed to help pick up Stephen Hawking's brain waves and communicates them via computer. The article mentions how his condition is worsening and pretty soon he won't even have the ability to use his current computer anymore. It's only a matter of time before his body seizes entirely. Tick tock.

People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive
wildstorm replied to Catherine's topic in DeathList Forum
http://www.usatoday....t-91/55724752/1 You might be wrong about his good health, considering he died mere hours after your post. Remember the time I said Leroy Nieman was in good health? Neither do I. I quoted the article, which I rebutted in the following sentence. -

Leroy Nieman, one of the most famous artists from the U.S. of A., turned 91 this month. Considering that his most famous works are from the 50's and 60's, I just assumed he was already dead. He is said to be in 'pretty good' health in the article, yet further research indicates that he had his leg amputated because of a vascular problem in 2010. A possible contender for DL 2013. -

Yesterday was Herman's 97th birthday- he also has a new novel out. He appears to be in good mental health, but no word on his physical condition. Sorry for the useless post- I suppose some news is better than no news.
-
I'm also staying with Niemeyer; let's see if we can get the hat trick.
-
I went with Oscar Niemeyer- I'm determined to select him every time in the hopes of eventually being right.

Improving after being hospitalized with pneumonia Another article states: "The architect`s daughter, Ana Lucia Niemeyer, told local media that her father is not in serious condition and was merely receiving fluids intravenously for help him in recovering from a cold." Merely, she says.

The last 'position player' to substitute as a goalie in an NHL game, Jerry Toppazzini, has died. He was actually a fairly notable player in Northern Ontario.
-
Montreal Canadiens' legend Butch Bouchard died at the ripe age of 92. He was in my dead pool last year- oh well, that is the way the puck bounces.
-

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries, Etc...

I turned 20 over the weekend! Wooo!! As a birthday surprise, Whitney Houston died for me- but unfortunately she wasn't on my list, so her efforts were in vain. -
Adam Adamowicz, the visual mind behind such games as Fallout 3 and Skyrim, has died. I only heard of this because my boyfriend loves Skyrim and all of his gamer friends posted about it on Facebook.

Roger Biosjoly, the engineer who famously tried to halt the Challenger launch, has said "I've told you so" for the last time.

Mary Tyler Moore, whom 'sources say' suffered from diabetes for years, is slowly going blind and is suffering heart and kidney problems. She has previously suffered a benign rain tumour, bleeding in the brain, and hospitalization for a 'grave diabetic condition' Glamourous photo as well.

A deathbed Farewell to Al Megrahi. The otherwise boring article contains this promising line: "He is a very sick man. He only talks in short sentences with pauses to get his breath back. He is looking death in the face, and he knows it.” Should only be a few more years now, I reckon.
-
I voted Al Megrahi, 'Al' the way.

She looks a little how my wife's mum looked the year before she died of breast cancer. Not quite sure she's a goner this year although if she gives up hope.... I read somewhere that she is continuing to smoke regardless of the lung cancer because she has accepted she is on the way out. That can't be good. Indeed. She is also determined to finish writing her memoir before kicking the bucket, and according to the article she's "working furiously to finish [it]"- which, to me, indicates that she is expecting to 'expire' soon and wants to get it done in a hurry.
-
I thought Ethan Zohn would have made the list this time. We'll see how his lung cancer progresses throughout the year.
