People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive

I could have sworn notorious Norwich City chairman Robert Chase died in the late 90s, but apparently he didn't and according to Company House is still alive aged 84. Cannot find any photos or interviews of him taken in the past two decades though.

    Deathlist Cup 2022

"Quick" Vic Elford may have never podiumed in F1 himself, but he's given several cup teams a chance of shaking the DL champagne in a few months' time. msc cashes in a joker meaning MariNisia's hit counts for less than nothing. CaptainChorizo and TQR cancel each other out, Predictor claws some ground back, maryportfuncity goes 3-0 up, Joey Russ increases his lead and Sideik takes a two-point lead over alt obits guy. Derby Dead Pool 2022

In fairness, it was only a few weeks ago we were all talking about what an insurmountable lead Smart Beta had at the top of the table. There's a long road ahead with numerous possible twists and turns, but I feel like this was the best team I've put together since I started competing again. Pele and Tom Parker look like they were the right 50/50 punts to take, I've got most of the possible landmines covered... if we see a major run on Drop 40s who I overlooked (Alagiah, Whale, Burrow, Bilton) then that's squeaky bum time, but we'll see...

    Deathlist Cup 2022

A six (6)-day cup dry spell is broken... by the fucking gamerunner. The whole point of the gamerunner entering a team is that you're meant to have some easy meat to knock out so he can concentrate on running the damn thing. I have to research another month while answering 30 messages about whether this butcher from Schmuckville, Idaho is a valid pick? Anyway.... I'm not going to pretend I ever watched Braxton Family Values but from my understanding Traci, while not the most vocally gifted of the Braxton sisters, was one of the most memable, and her side-eye reactions will doubtless live on in gif form long after her body has been consumed by worms. SpadeCooley goes 7-3 up in his match against gcreptile. Dead Pop Stars

And seemingly confirmed by her son on Instagram, with bonus other blueticked Braxton family members commenting. I said before if this pick comes off it'd be the best deadpool pick of my career (even ahead of Andrew Millwall) and it looks like I can sleep easy tonight. Edit: here's TMZ with the obit.

    Dead Pop Stars

Rumours on Twitter that R&B singer and reality TV star Traci Braxton has passed away. This would truly be very upsetting to a lot of people.

One half of the "Cock Destroyers" and much-memed porn star Sophie Anderson is in hospital after.... let her explain. There's an image of it, that resembles what happens if you kick a brickwall barefeet while suffering from an ingrowing toenail, here. And there's a report from someone on the scene here:

Couple of biggish wrestling updates for deadpoolers, one positive one negative. Necro Butcher is back wrestling death matches again, which is not something you'd expect a man with terminal cancer to be doing. Looks a lot better than he did 18 months ago as well: However, there's a line from the new Observer about William Regal that jumped out at me: So... see you back here after Talk Is Jericho?

Of the 85+ wrestling figures: 100% guaranteed QOs: Gene LeBell, Billy Two Rivers 95% guaranteed: Max Crabtree 50/50: Pepper Martin, Earl Maynard Admittedly, only Rivers and Crabtree would be getting those solely on wrestling. LeBell is more famous for his judo and film work (was also the inspiration for Brad Pitt's character in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood). Martin and Maynard also acted (Martin was the lorry driver Superman is beaten up by in... Superman 2?)

With his passing, I think that's it for anyone involved in wrestling over the age of 90 who could feasibly get a traditional QO. Former World Class commentator Bill Mercer might get one via the Yahoo loophole, but other than that you're going to have to go down to 89-year-old Gene LeBell for someone who will get a trad QO.

    FIFA World Cup Players

Justice Christopher, who played in all three of Nigeria's "Group of Death" matches at the 2002 World Cup, is dead. Apparently he was 40, but being as he first retired from football "aged" 25, I think this might be classic Nigerian accounting.

    Deathlist Cup 2022

Pau, right in the kisser. Pau Riba was a Spanish folk musician and writer who, for over 50 years, stood as an icon of Catalan counter-culture. Yet another Spanish-language hit for this cup sees BabyBlue claim 4 unique points to go ahead of Predictor in their tie. Deathlist Cup 2022

I don't believe there was any ill intent from Salmon Mousse here at all: I don't expect DL Cup teams to do in-depth bios of every one they select. But I am going to retrospectively disqualify Tevin and replace him with SM's first sub, which was.... Silas Alexander. So he gets points anyway, and gcreptile loses a unique point. Deathlist Cup 2022

See the logo behind him? It took me a long time to read the first word (second is obviously Africa or African), but I got it. Manitoba. It's the Manitoba African Cup of Nations, a small amateur tournament for African expats in the Manitoba area. He's not an international footballer, he's a guy who plays... it's not even Sunday league. Anyone from this forum who lived in Guinea-Bissau for a few years could play in that tournament. He's not famous, he's just got an uncle who was very good at bullshitting the media.

    Deathlist Cup 2022

OK, there may be an issue here. The Harambe Stars aren't a club football team - it's the nickname for the Kenyan national team. And... I'm struggling to find any evidence that he actually played for Kenya. Let me break it down: Quote from his brother from this CBC news story: So the tournament is called African Nations Cup, its the African Cup of Nations. And he couldn't have watched it last summer... because as everyone knows AFCON is held in January. It fucks up mid-table Premier League teams every two years because half their team flies out to Mogadishu. Maybe he meant the qualifiers? Except there were no qualifiers for AFCON last summer either. There were two qualifiers in March 2021, maybe he meant that? There was no Tevin Obiga in the squad for either their 1-1 draw away to Egypt, or their 2-1 win over Togo. There is no Tevin Obiga in the "recent squad callups" for the Kenyan national team on Wikipedia. There is no Tevin Obiga on TransfrMarkt. There's 300,000 players in the FM22 database - there is no Tevin Obiga. Kenya might not be a football powerhouse, but they're not a pub team. There's data on them online and none of it includes Tevin Obiga. The only photo of him in any of these articles of him doing something football-y is this: Which doesn't appear to be any of the shirts the Kenyan national team launched in 2019: It's also weird that he is only referred to as playing for the national team and not a club side. I'd have said someone good enough to play for Kenya's national team could easily walk into a club contract in Canada. Ah, wait for the next post.
