Kidney cancer is a really difficult one to narrow down, tbh.

    21. Len Deighton

I mean, I agree, but I'm also hardly going to discourage the promotion of more writers for the DL even if it is pointless. Len Deighton has been retired for about a decade now, mostly refuses to give interviews (I think there are the odd one or two out there), rarely responds to fan mail, and in fact, hated the writing process and being a writer. According to him, he only became an author because it was useful to get laid at parties. There isn't going to be a lot of gossip about him before his death. Also Jack Higgins is better imo. And more fun. And gives interviews. And is still alive.

    British Character Actors

Talking Pictures TV this week broadcast an interview with 60s/70s TV regular Ellen McIntosh off of Ulitzers list. 91 this year and she looks and sounds amazing for her age.

He's not dead or anything, but John Goodman in February 2022 genuinely looks nothing like how I remember him. Apparently he's lost 200 pounds since going teetotal.

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

About 20 years ago, Adam Kay had a Tom Lehrer inspired comedy band called The Amateur Transplants, which produced a few good songs (and a number of misses tbf). The NHS Song and Paracetamoxyfrusebendroneomycin were their better tracks, but their loving tribute to Coldplay stands as a potential DDP anthem imo.
  9. From experience, this is remarkably tidy for a 6 year old. Also there's joined up writing in "town", "money" and "pay" at least which isn't Primary 1 level.

    Deathlist Cup 2022

It's probably fair on deadline day to mention who won the "penalties" - I didn't originally until someone (Torva?) sent me a team after they'd lost a decider. But then of course you fall foul of the scenario bound to happen one day - someone doesn't put a team in, then of course one of their side are announced dead at 2 minutes to midnight. No match that ever needed a draw decider with 24 hours to go was settled by a late pick. Though one time Pedro lost a decider and still advanced because he put a team in and his winning opponent didn't!

Fraggle Rock ended before I was 1, and most subeditors are probably younger than me now. I know, time, right?

Rising Damp is pretty good TV whereas the little I've seen of Love thy Neighbour was incredibly mediocre. That may also play a role.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Not as great a precedent as it sounds - Waylon Jennings pretty much retired a few years before he died due to his health, but Johnny Cash was still performing and recording pretty much up to his final hospitalisation!

    Dead Pop Stars

Even at the time it struck me Townshend and Langham's defences were rather alike, yet one got forgiven and the other's career ended. Apparently there's more mileage in a few rock songs than being an antisocial comedian...

    Dead Pop Stars

"It would be a miracle for me to see 80" says Pete Townshend... ...in an overly dramatic interview about his past substance abuse which I am linking to now. This needed a Who thread bumped for the full effect, but I couldn't find one.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Why not pick a surviving Columbo killer? Lee Grant (b. 1925), Ransom for a Dead Man (1971) Susan Clark (b. 1943) Lady in Waiting (1971) Vera Miles (b. 1929) - Lovely but Lethal (1973) Dick van Dyke (b. 1925) - Negative Reaction (1974) George Hamilton (b. 1939) - A Deadly State of Mind (1975) - the one with the evil Doctor who uses hypnotism to kill, Caution Murder Can Be Hazardous to your Health (1991) Hector Elizondo (b. 1936) - A Case of Immunity (1975) William Shatner (b. 1931) - Fade in to Murder (1976), Butterfly in Shades of Grey (1995) Joyce van Patten (b. 1934) - Old Fashioned Murder (1976) Trish Van Devere (b. 1941) - Make Me A Perfect Murder (1978) Clive Revill (b. 1930) - The Conspirators (1978) Tbh I mistook Revill for Davis above hence this. This far and no further? Anthony Andrews (b. 1948) - Columbo Goes to the Guillotine (1989) Fisher Stevens (b. 1963) - Murder, Smoke and Shadows (1989) Lindsay Crouse (b. 1948) - Sex and the Married Detective (1989) Robert Foxworth (b. 1941) - Grand Deceptions (1989) Patrick Bachau (b. 1938) - Murder A Self Portrait (1990) Ian Buchanan (b. 1957) - Columbo Cries Wolf (1990) Helen Shaver (b. 1951) - Rest in Peace, Mrs Columbo (1990) James Read (b. 1953) - Uneasy Lies the Crown (1990) Andrew Stevens (b. 1955) - Murder in Malibu (1990) Gary Hershberger (b. 1964) - Columbo Goes to College (1991) Stephen Caffrey (b. 1959) - Columbo Goes to College (1991) Dabney Coleman (b. 1932) - Murder of a Rock Star (1991) Tyne Daly (b. 1946) - A Bird in the Hand (1992) Greg Evignan (b. 1953) - A Bird in the Hand (1992) Faye Dunaway (b. 1941) - Its All in the Game (1993) Claudia Christian (b. 1965) - Its All in the Game (1993) Ed Begley Jr (1949) - Undercover (1994) George Wendt (b. 1948) - Strange Bedfellows (1995) Shera Danese (b. 1949) - A Trace of Murder (1997) - Peter Falk's widow David Rasche (b. 1944) - A Trace of Murder (1997) Billy Connolly (b. 1942) - Murder with Too Many Notes (2001) Matthew Rhys (b. 1974) - Columbo Likes the Nightlife (2003) Jennifer Sky (b. 1976) - Columbo Likes the Nightlife (2003) Someone else did this list years ago but it appears to have been deleted, for shame. Anyhow, most of the best Columbo villains have joined Falk on the other side, including Patrick McGoohan, Jack Cassidy, Theodore Bikel, etc. Of the living classic era killers, Shatner's probably the best, though Van Devere's 4 minute murder getaway is still an engaging bit of TV - even if it wouldn't work today. Just one more thing - Bob Dishy who appeared twice as overeager Sgt Wilson is still alive and just turned 88. Also, while Playback's killer died decades ago, his put upon wife, Gena Rowlands (b. 1930) is likewise still with us.

    Deathlist Cup 2022

On the bright side for AFB, are you still doing lucky loser by "points in the last round" or by random draw? If the former, they're surely it if anyone fails to turn up on deadline day.

    Political Frailty

An early backer of Charles Kennedy for leader, and while he didn't keep up his spot on the front bench, he was in the Human Rights joint committee around the time of the Iraq War. This means of the 24 Lib Dem MPs in 1999 who backed Kennedy, 6 are dead, and only Robert Maclennan and Ronnie Fearn made it above 80. And of course, our Charlie didn't come close, alas. Of the 18 others, I agree with others that Paul Tyler (Lord Tyler) looked quite frail last I saw him on TV. Unless one of those UFOs gets Lembit Opik of course...

    Derby Dead Pool 2022

Wrong page for the correct source. Each Last Word programme produces a page like this: BBC Radio 4 - Last Word, Bamber Gascoigne (pictured), Norma Waterson, Claire Tomlinson, Thich Nhat Hanh With birth dates, death dates, and who they were. As Last Word is basically a BBC news programme (on the radio) and this is the written source, it counts. Whereas the Sounds page is the shorthand link for downloading to a mobile etc. EDIT - I am not a power that be anymore (thank feck) but as I pushed for Last Word being included, that was my reasoning.
