Yes, agreed. (Again)

A certain Leeds forum I have been looking at for no reason in the last few minutes also reports that Leeds legend Mick Bates is "gravely ill". What did they do to get promoted last season? Sign a deal with Mephistopheles?

I don't recall playing this? Nor can I see a team?

If we're keeping tabs ourselves, I believe I am at 49/250.

As a community we're quite good at spotting ominous trends, really. -
If nobody else does, I'll update my December table when I have some spare time...

Greta Anderson (1927), 100m freestyle - gave interview last Summer to the IOC as the "oldest living Danish Olympian" Keshav Dutt (1925) - last survivor of Balbir Singhs hockey team - named as a survivor in Singhs obits last year Arne Ahman (1925) - triple jump - got a happy birthday from the Olympics lot a few weeks ago so presumably alive! Jackie Robinson (1927) - basketball team - appeared at the London Olympics, presumably the American media would cover a gold medalist since. Charles Coste (1924) - cycling, pursuit - still alive according to the various cycling stats websites of varying official statuses Mario Ghella (1929) - cycling sprint - same sources, but less firm evidence. Marie Kovarova (1927) - team gymnastics - has an address on Star Tiger to send current mail to, apparently? Gordy Giovanelli (1925) - coxed four - named oldest living Olympian rower in Vandernotte obits last year. Giuseppe Moioli (1927) - coxless four - video of him training from 2019. I did just add 1948 gold medalists to my long list, belatedely, a few days ago so with Cook gone, here's the ones that seemed to be alive - with my reasoning (which may be flawed on the cyclists).

My lot are in too. Not very confident about them tbh, but let's see how the match with Grobler goes.

I think the reason for that can be seen in 2 elections - 1997 and 2010. 1997 flushed out so much of the old guard (around 200 Tories from the 1992-7 parliament were gone for the 1997-2001 parliament) and when those seats reverted back to the Tories in 2005-15 it was for much younger Tory figures mostly. Also, 2010, in the wake of the expenses scandal, saw a ludicrous 36% of the seats in parliament (235!) swap incumbents. A number of the 1997 victims held "safe" seats and are no longer with us. Of the 2010 expenses folk, I believe a few are also dead. Peter Viggers for example but he would have presumably stood down by 2020! (Of course, the flip question is why do so many Labour MPs die in their 50s/60s. Only one of them overdosed on Polish absinthe!)

And justly so, imo. It was only reason I took on the role, so FFBI picks could be got rid of. Although my main grump was that if radio producers, or writers, or actors should be posted on the forum, they should be posted in the radio, or writing, or acting threads, not in here. That we've cut down on FFBI picks doesn't meant folk should try and find names to put in this thread.

The question was somewhat rhetorical, Paul! Point being those people aren't DL forum worthy of mention in their own threads or in here.

At the risk of going all Sir Creep on everyone, if there was any thread I'd supported being locked on this forum it is this one. It's existence is futile. Why do we need to post unfamous people? Anyone who truly fits in here is now no longer accepted in any of the important deadpools (barring Deathrace) so it's not "helpful" in that regard. It is just posting sob stories of the unknown for no reason other than, tbh, grief porn. Also, and this is the bit that fucks me off even more, it is increasingly misused. The person above was a radio producer, apparently. Never heard of him. None of us likely had. So, if you are going to post about his untimely death, there's the Canadians thread. The radio thread. All kinds of places to put that news properly if we must hear it. Because if he was the main producer on the main radio show in Quebec, to the point of getting obits in Quebec, he did have some local "fame" even if you wouldn't expect anyone in the UK to have ever heard of the poor sod. In the past, this has been the go to thread for journalists, TV extras, and writers - again, if you think they are notable enough to mention on the forum for that, use those fucking threads. Just because the press and media are ignorant fuckwits most of the time now does not mean we should be. Basically, people either shouldn't be posted in this thread, or should. If they shouldn't, find the right fucking thread to post them in. And those who should be posted in here really do have no place being noted on forum. This is a relic of a free for all age in deadpooling which is thankfully part of the past now, and as such should be consigned to the past.

Galloway. Mind you, last time I was right on this sort of thing was Jimmy "walking talking living HA" Hood.

I wouldn't boycott Tunnocks caramel wafers if they announced a genocide on Scottish writers! Bloody lovely, they are.

Just imagine how much worse he'd look if he hadn't gone on a health related diet a few years ago too. There's a few big names that wouldn't surprise if they did a John Smith and Salmonds on the top tiers of that list imo.

Thanks. Just tagging in @gcreptile so he sees it for the next update.

Mary Holt has died but there is no QO yet for Gooseberry.
-
The Irving Society also claim that actor/writer Jeremy Burnham died in December 2020. What is it with Children of the Stones writers dying off the radar? It was a classic FFS!
-
Good luck. (And thanks to the little bird who wrote into DDP towers pointing this out!)
-
This appears to be a death notice for the former MP Mary Holt? She's a pick on several DDP teams so watching for the qualifying obit.

That just puts the exclamation mark on some frankly horrible health issues Gordon McQueen has been sadly dealing with a while. He had quite serious throat cancer a decade ago, and then a massive stroke which nearly killed him a few years ago. He's not going to be around for long, I'm afraid.

I should have listened to my earlier gut feeling. Alan Curtis is dead according to the the chairman of Elstree Studios.

The plan he is actually defending (vaccines to over 50s, school opening) only works if he means April too. So it sounds like someone fumbling a last minute government U-turn tbh.
