    British Science Fiction Series

Recent picture of Tom Baker btw I was tempted to give him his own thread tbh as a future DL cert. Although a weird thing that just came to my mind. The person who told me Tom was quite frail these days when not performing back in 2017 or then abouts, David Collings, has predeceased him now!

    Time Added

And with a Qualifying Obit, the DDP will have reached 100 hits in the 2nd fastest time yet, behind only 2016.

    The Dead of 2020

Ah, well that Player of the Month thing wont add up itself. I wish it would, being a well known good for nothing DDP co-host and all that jazz... PS Reptile is now aware of the Scoreboard issue. It shall be seen to.

    The Dead of 2020

Not sure why. The DDP Rules page linked on the front page, and the List of the Lost page both reference Herald Scotland as a Qualifying Obituary, in line with Cmme decision in November 2019 to take place as of 1st January 2020. This counts.

I know I've mentioned the time someone cited an interview I did with a person and it got deleted for being an "atrocious source" before but I'm still proud.

    Take care.
  8. The original Dubliners are all the pub in the sky, and of the main 5 man group (Drew/Terry/McKenna/Bourke/Sheahan), only John Sheahan lives.
  9. Well for duos you've got the London Boys, two UK top ten hits in the 80s, who both died when their car was hit on a tour by a drunk driver in 1996. Yes, it does get stuck in your head over and over and over again...

Thoughts and Opinions on the 2020 List

Not often you get to 8/50 on the DL and are still spoiled for choice. Nearly half the list remaining it wouldn't be that surprising if they went in 2020. Peter Sutcliffe - been in failing health for a few years. Jean Marie le Pen - No corona but is frail and housebound. Tom Smith - Terminal cancer. David Crosby - Heart and many other problems, likely had 2 years left tops he said last summer. Joanne Woodward - End stages of dementia for seemingly a decade now. Carl Reiner - On age alone for the Twitterer, although DL have good history with their oldest new picks in recent years... Ruth Ginsburg - Pan cancer Shane MacGowan - on the basis of being Shane MacGowan. Alex Trebek - pan cancer Bouteflika - in deteriorating health last year, losing power likely wont help that. Willie Nelson - is a case of 2020 or 2021. Desmond Tutu - in and out of hospital, could be one of those DL lingers who stop lingering Prunella Scales - Another near the end but the end could be 2020 or 2024... Nobby Stiles - Gravely ill since 2015, somehow lingering on for now. Leslie Phillips - Another lingerer for years worried about Gooseberry's predictions. Doesn't even do his rare wanders outside anymore. Jimmy Carter - Various health issues in last year or two and surely close to expiry date even for longest lived Presidents. Bob Barker - in and out of hospital in recent times. Leon Spinks - bad battle with cancer, according to recent reports. Bob Dole - world's frailest man 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, somehow still here. Vera Lynn - frail for yonks and very very old. Prince Philip - health notably on wane, very very old too.

    Dead Pop Stars

Nearly a decade ago, a historian I knew who was regarded as *the* expert on the history of British ports died and in the end I offered an obit to 3 or 4 newspapers, all of whom turned it down on notability. And that guy was in Who's Who, but clearly not as notable as some mum from Birmingham with cancer.

    Scientists, Inventors And Techno Wizards

There's currently a deletion war going on too as a few actors Wiki pages are being deleted for not being notable enough by Wiki Editors standards. Useful site, undermined by the idiots who run it. The editors excuse for deleting vast chunks of verified wrestling history actually used by folk in the industry was "this might be interesting to the general public, but isn't important enough for a Wikipedia".

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

Of course, I forget the exact phrasing but if you take Diana Trent's line about spending her 60th covering the Cambodian civil war, that character is STILL older than Stephanie Cole in 2020...

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

I remember when he and Arthur Miller were the "they're still alive, you know" legendary names from another era almost consigned to history. Then it was Norman Wisdom. Back in the 90s it was Katharine Hepburn and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Time catches up on all.

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

I didn't have internet at the time bar glances at the future Mrs msc's laptop. My memory is Reid was announced by the Beeb at the same time as Bergman. NBC news from the day is pretty much obit, obit, obit (video linked below):

    Political Frailty

Been very quiet since. I did ask about last November but the question was ignored, so, you never know. (Although hopefully not, Prescott's one of the few politicians I outright liked.) As for age, I'd have trusted the wisdom of a nonagenarian Betty Boothroyd or the late Lord Carrington over pretty much all of the Cameron, May, Johnson and Corbyn front benches!

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

I'm pretty sure the record is held by 30th July 2007, when 4 DDP hits for that day were announced: Ingmar Bergman, Micheangelol Antonioni, Ayatollah Meshkini and Bill Walsh were all announced during the day, as well as the deaths of Phil Drabble and Mike Reid which were announced on that day iirc despite being from the day before. Also not picked but Tam McGraw (notorious gangster) and Tom Snyder also were announced that day. There was 5 or 6 obits on the BBC front page alone. PS Actor John Normington died on the 26th July but was announced 3 or 4 days later, I forget the exact day after 13 odd years. Anyhow, July 2007 was quite a big deadpooling month.

Useful site, no? The 2019 names will either be up now or going up soon too. If other countries had a central online database like this it would solve so many research issues...

    Scientists, Inventors And Techno Wizards

The hattrick of cause of death, the big Hollywood film starring the A list nutter, and his Game Theories being one of those rare science things that permeate into pop culture without folk realising it was him. I swear half the modern SF I bother to watch seems based on it.

    Coronavirus Playlist

When Captain died last year, I went to have a listen to their stuff, and YouTube brought up that song. And after a few seconds listening, my mind was blown. Why? Because one of the early Simpsons has a scene where the greeting card companies join forces to create Love Day, a new holiday designed to make them even more money. Anyhow, Homer gets and throws away a teddy bear which plays "Love Day music", including a 10 second snippet which I had thought was Danny Elfman or Alf Clausen perfectly taking the piss out of the sort of ultra schmaltzy music you get on these things. And that's what I thought for 25 years...until last year, when I suddenly found it they were actually playing the opening 10 seconds of Love Will Keep Us Together by the Captain and Tenille.
