    26. Prunella Scales

Canal Journeys is back for a one off special. No big trips, just a toddle through Oxford. The TV previews focused on Prunella's "vastly deteriorating health". Watching it, Prunella Scales apparently doesn't really talk much anymore unless heavily prompted, and is having to holding herself up by the barrier. She is also fully deaf. Her voice overs are all from previous years. She also no longer focuses on the camera. Her voice is also a lot more slurred when she does talk. Also rather notably this episode is filled of clips from older adventures. Much less current stuff. Timothy West himself has aged in the last 2 years quite badly. He says his own memory is struggling, and he doesn't look a well man. I think they wont last 6 months without the other when the first one goes. “The canals will carry on without us. I just wonder if we can carry on without them.” Timothy West

    British Character Actors

Not seen that one, but apparently, yes he was! Apart from HoC and Dr Who, have also seen him in everything from The Avengers (including the one where Diana Rigg gets into a leather corset and shows off her legs...which remained in my mind for some reason...), Fall of Eagles, Adam Adamant, Hitchhikers Guide, the various Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes, and fucking shitloads other stuff. Nowadays if you ever casually watch Talking Pictures or Drama or other freeview channels he's bound to show up in something or other at least once a month. Anyhow, he saved his money well and in his mid-60s decided to retire peacefully. Showed up in one of his sons music videos few years back but otherwise it was the fishing and relaxing life. There are worse old ages!

    The EU Referendum Hokey Cokey

I think the next election will produce a hung parliament, too. Its not beyond the Tories to spin the situation to their advantage, but currently it looks like they'd lose a chunk of their Scottish seats, a number of their London seats and their Remain held seats in the South with a Lib Dem challenge (ie Cheltenham). As Ed Miliband showed, it's really difficult to win a majority when you start the campaign at circa minus -20 seats wise and need to make it up. Not that Corbyn seems likely to gain much either. But then, one of those two will through our First Past the Post System.

    Statistics

So, when I was doing some work research I found a strong contender for this in the Herald archives. Sir Tam Galbraith, former Glasgow Tory MP (my family MP at one point in fact before my birth) was knighted 31st December 1981 when known to be gravely ill, and died 48 hours later. (Willz might recall this - Glasgow had 3 by-elections due to death in about 2 years!) Decided the Doddy thread was too dead to resurrect, but that this factoid was interesting enough to bring up on forum. So here it is.

Great cartoon, that. Anyhow, my school had a Recess. It was quiet "hidden" staircase area round the back of the main atrium that was oft frequented by, err, couples.

    The Dead of 2019

I was pretty sure it was him, so had a quick search: Yep, apparently they picked Frankie Laine in 2008, despite his having died 11 months earlier. Perhaps there was another late sub? But I can't mind what it was. Must have been one when Gerry Ford died?
