    Derby Dead Pool 2023

The old "pick a shithead, cheer if the gamble works" gambit? I like to have at least one irredeemable cunt on my teams, though I got burned by the IS wankers in 2017. By the way, knew about Jango (unchained), didn't pick him in the DDP as QO seemed highly unlikely. If he gets one, you will hear a lot of swearing in the Clyde Valley...

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

Random picture of Derby. Entries for the 2020 Derby Dead Pool are now open! Emails appear to be very slow sending out, if you haven't received one by, idk, tomorrow, let the Cmme know. I'll let our other members introduce themselves below, especially as they are doing the Data Entry bit, so you can shower them with bribes and likes... Rules are as before, but The Herald newspaper returns as a Qualifying Obit. As do the ITV local pages, which weren't already one on the 2019 list.

    Who are the immortals?

Al Megrahi always remind me of the Megrahi/Robin Gibb sweepstake which damn near ended in a photo finish. (And despite being sad at Gibb's death as a Bee Gees fan, Reaper's quip about him cracked me up!) "On a day when a man who caused much pain and suffering for people throughout the world is taken from us by cancer, it's a little sad to see him steal the headlines of the death of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi." Dunn was legendary - to the point Mrs Msc woke me up from a painkiller induced sleep to tell me the news! @Joey Russ sent me a message to tell me Kirk Douglas was dead and my response was "Yeah right, nice try..." But yeah, it's Zsa Zsa Gabor for me. She was desperately ill throughout the 00s. She had the last rites given to her in Summer 2010. She then outlived DL pick after DL pick. There was people healthy in Summer 2010 who were successful DL hits before Gabor died in December 2016. The reactions to her death on this forum say it all: And a fair shout out to Joanne Woodward. We were told she had severe dementia and was house ridden 16 years ago. Since then, her seemingly much healthier and A list star husband Paul Newman got cancer and died, she's become a DDP and DL regular, she's been in end stage dementia for nearly a decade and on she continues. I don't get how and tbh I don't envy her.

    Football Manager Sacking Bingo 3

Sorry Rover it was a rare day off and I just couldn't be arsed getting on the laptop to check who was manager where before the deadline. Good luck running this though.

    Rishi Sunak

Oh don't get me wrong, not a fan of Theresa May at all. Horrendous authoritarian streak. Complete lack of pragmatism and us v them approach killed any chance in brexit negotiations etc etc. But I still think the little things she got done like beefing up domestic violence laws and signing up the UK to the ban on trading ivory are still better than anything Sunak has achieved in office. Whereas I do like Gordon Brown. Stopped a worldwide depression (don't @ me with your George Osborne takes), giant as Chancellor, with redistribution of money to the poorest probably the most successful socialist we've had since Wilson. If he lacked the tools to be a great leader, like say Anthony Eden and Jim Callaghan before him, he still managed to do his best for Britain when on the spot in a crisis. And I can't see that smug git Osborne on the TV without thinking he still advocates for having let the UK banking system collapse, the financially illiterate shithead. Blair? Well there's a point. Even if we don't like him, he surrounded himself with politicians of talent who could get shit done. Brown, Prescott, Cook, Dobson etc. Who does Sunak surrounded himself with? A cabinet with less talent to deal with the big issues than your average school class of six year olds.

    Wrestlers/actors

Actually yeah Ray Traylor was a fun performer. Very fourth wall breaking, behind some hilariously bad taste sketches and in his day was pretty good at the prowrestling. Outside of performing he was a renowned charity fundraiser, raising millions of dollars for sick kids in the nineties before Make a Wish made that cool for celebs. Alas he could never keep his weight under control and died aged 41 while many actual cunts live lives twice as long. And to answer your other page one question 19 years on, prowrestlers aren't in Equity or any likewise union and they really ought to be. You are right, it is theatre but it's highly skilled theatre and even a second out can cause severe injury. And too often in this thread you'll find folk who died from painkiller addiction because they couldn't afford proper health care under the American health system. I've been tempted to answer that unanswered question on page one for years. Couldn't resist when it came up on search yet again. But yeah Bossman was great. Still fucked off he died. Worryingly I'm not far off 41 myself now, all a bit sobering!

    Minimalists (and other classical composers/musicians)

In 1979; the World at War team did a similar documentary series on Hollywood and the birth of the film industry. Worth a watch if it's online. Carl Davis did the theme for that too.
  10. Yeah. Not everyone in New York would pay to see Andrew Lloyd Webber.

    Rishi Sunak

So between James K Polk and Teddy Roosevelt, you had 2 good Presidents (Lincoln, Grant) in about 50 years. Well that makes me feel even better about the precedent!

    Rishi Sunak

I think that's harsh on Gordon Brown and even Theresa May tbh. Fair enough on Cameron, Johnson and Truss though. I remember when I used to look at that 20 year period of Hayes/Garfield/Arthur/Cleveland/Harrison/McKinley for US Presidents and think its a real low when Chester A Arthur was your best President in 20 years. (OK, its not Garfield's fault he got shot almost instantly but it did sort of kill his list of achievements in office!) How little did I know of the future...
  13. Between the Poirot theme guy, the House of Cards theme guy and now Carl Davis, it's been a bad year so far for composers of iconic TV theme tunes.

Actually saw Todd Carty a few months ago. Looked good for his age, still quite active and actively touring as a theatre actor.

Given my luck at these sorts of games, Sandy Gall deserves a medal for surviving that level of jinx for six years now!

    Michael Crawford

Michael Crawford and Michelle Dotrice on BBC Four just now chatting about Some Mother's. Both look and sound great and, barring accidents, won't be troubling us for a while. Dotrice looks a lot like her dad now.

    Deathlist Cup 2023

We're all going to look foolishly premature when Allen gets a 37 point swing in the next, err, 4 hours.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2024

Former actor, wife beater and on going booze hound Derren Nesbitt has filmed an interview with Talking Pictures due to be screened in August, so worth a form watch, imo. Somehow, he's made it to 88.

Not a surprise as he looked like death warmed up at the Clash last September. Still, sad news, one of the few proper old school World of Sport era legends still standing.

I was a sceptic until I saw this picture in the Daily Mail of him riding a bike on his 121st birthday.

Astonishingly good performance but Reptile is the king of this Cup. I should know, having lost about fifty times to the guy.

  25. I'm walking into a duh trap here aren't I? You knew already it was inspired by the Ken Loach film, itself based on a short book?
