So How's Your 2018 Shortlist Looking?
msc replied to Joey Russ's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
DDP team (and any other DDP teams) - waiting Spade's decision on rules etc Hares Pool - Drafted. Hartlepool - Waiting to see if Ali is running it again. Deathrace - 50% Advent thing - Will just pick someone off the shortlist on the day. Scavenger - ditto Death by Numbers - roughly know half of the names. Alt Obits - See Death by Numbers Crowdsourced list - Mine was first in. Deathlist Cup - it's not 2018 yet! -
You can pick whoever you like. If we finish with 26 names (like this year), the lowest ranked gets disqualified in favour of the 51st name, and so on. I am unsure that will happen however, as only 4 names need to drop out.

Wrestlers don't tend to get much traction in the votes, but there's plenty of time left for that. Snuka got to 71st place and 86 points last year, though he announced his demise after a number of voters who might have voted for him already had done so, ,and others didn't believe the sod. We've got 7 votes in so far, a record for November (subs tend to arrive mostly in the last week), and so far, Deathray is right: the same names do seem to be creeping up time and again. Just perhaps not specifically the ones he might have mentioned. One thing that does amuse - two people have actually smashed their points tallies from the 2017 list already. I mean of the notables on the actual 2017 list. Obviously McCain has smashed his record of getting 0 points whatsoever in the two previous goes, that doesn't count...

Watching this on record. On episode 3 now, it's been fun. Someone in our block has just started smoking a joint, and you can smell it through the vents... Didn't know ITV had started smellovision...

I first knew of him... as one of the Blue Peter presenters!
-
Only 2 names so far, I believe. I thought it was 3, but one of them was missing off a single list.

Yes, our main news and TV current events shows cover the US elections and big political stories. I've known about McCain since 2000 when he ran against Bush, and that was a while before I became interested in politics. He was doing one of those walk by and asked questions from the press vox pop bits, then he turned to the C4N camera/journalist and went "Oh I know you, you're from Channel 4 News, come and have some tea!" Then he got gubbed by Bush. His health even made top headlines in the locals here like the Evening Times (the Glasgow paper) when he got diagnosed a few months ago. Name recognition - which not a lot of non-British (or hell, British/Scottish) politicians have.
-
McCain is well known in the UK. Among folk who pay even casual attention to politics of course, can't speak for those who don't know what an election is.

I was thinking 2009, when lots of folk seemed certain Swayze would be #1, only for it to be Ronnie Biggs. Though, tbh, as long as the person is on the list, it doesn't matter to me if they are 1st, 50th, 49th, etc...

Number 1? Prince Philip perhaps.
-
Good luck, RadChap, in hosting this fine game.
-
Ah, tell Neil well done, and that I look forward to seeing this sometime in the new year.
-
I can confirm you are wrong... especially since Biblio's vote came through since my last post and changed the top three. Every vote changes things - why, last year a dozen spots were sealed with the last 2 votes of the year.

^ Terminal cancer of undisclosed sort and not getting it treated. Shoe in for Hares Pool points, maybe Deathrace/Deathlist Cup too.

It's now Lord Carrington, who got asked in a (pretty good) BBC interview about 2 years ago: "What would you like to be doing in 5 years?" His response? "In FIVE years? Breathing!"

Given the unique is no more: she's Elvis's love interest in Live a Little Love a Little. Still appears on British TV now and again as a talking head in stuff about Elvis. Obit cert.

Cool. Four lists in already, within...12 hours or so. Good start, this early on. For those who like my annual "after X lists" teaser, our current leader is, by a fair distance imo, the most famous person to have ever topped the list at any point. 2nd is someone connected to him, I believe they went to the same parties. And 3rd is a sports star. Of course this is early doors, and who was in the top 3 at this stage last year? Gina Lollobrigida and Sheila Mercier. Exactly.
-
Been sitting on that one for three years as a potential unique.
-
Spade. The answer is always Spade. He'll win in 2018 with a theme team too.

Had a funny moment a few days ago, when I was trying to find out more information about a pick. I kept resoundingly failing to find that information, but in doing so, kept stumbling across useful stats and research websites for work/non-deadpooling purposes. So thank you, anonymous D-lister who I think might be exaggerating both their claim to fame AND their illness. -
Tom has made a video about the Doctor Who anniversary!

Ok, because I'm nice (read: suffering from another bloody chest cold), I am opening the submission period a few hours earlier. By which I mean, the submission period for ballots/lists for the 2018 Crowdsourced Deathlist is now open.

Guess he didn't go for that check up, then.
