Lord Balniel. A shortlisted name for me....back when I made my DDP debut. One of the dwindling members of the Heath Government (though a few usual suspects had very early minor roles ie Heseltine, Ken Clarke etc). Worth noting he was also chairman of the charity we now know as Mind, spent a lot of his parliamentary career campaigning for more money towards mental health care (which was an outlier fight even more than today 60 years ago), and helped expel the Church of Scientology from aforementioned charity for their quackery.

Watching that Louis Theroux interview on BBC (a repeat from late last year, filmed last summer). Judi Dench is, well, very old now, but she can still talk and reminisce well, even though talking about her late husband is still obviously painful. Her living family live nearby her now though, as she gets lonely easily and also falls a fair bit. She claims her pet parrot (?) saved her life after the big fall during lockdown mentioned above, as it kept talking to her till help arrived.

Well, that's a pyramid system for you. Relegated teams find their rightful place. Fort William are bashing minnows, but they've been easily beaten by all the big (comparatively speaking for the 6th tier of Scottish football, you understand) teams in the division, so they're nearly 20 points off the top and wont be going back up soon.

I was a bit confused (yesterday) to see Stiltskin made it to number one. It feels so unlike the typical UK number one. But apparently it was used in a Levi's advert at the time, which explains that. Coolio is class though I always hear Amish Paradise.

My views on Doop expressed above. The Blur song is rubbish - good band, but that whole Oasis/Blur thing was all a bit much at the time. Especially when Pulp were right there. But not here. I loved the charts at this time, but there's very little number ones I'd dive out to save. So Take That actually get votes. That is a good song. This is a child of the 90s who was allergic to boybands and hated them viscerally saying that. "In the twist of separation you excelled at being free" is a great line. Robson and Greene's stuff is woeful but worth checking out their TOTP appearances for how much neither of them want to be there.

We were all singing the chorus at school!

Asquith lost his seat when Lloyd George split the Liberals but imo you're wanting Balfour who went into the 1906 election expecting to be made prime minister (as he had been weeks earlier) only to suffer one of the worst landslide defeats in history and lose his own seat in the process. Been a while...

The best songs went ages ago. As Snap quoted the great philosopher Davros in one of their other top twenty hits: exterminate exterminate.

Which makes it even smaller a percentage over all of footballers. Its bad enough without disasterising it.
-
No it doesn't? There's about 50-100 cases a year out of something in the line of 10, 000+ living ex pros (which is a very low estimate) in the UK. 9% of them would be in the region of over a thousand cases, possibly even 2 or 3.

The BBC documentary series on the French bombing of Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior has an interview with French secret agent/bomber Jean-Luc Kister, who is still alive and must be well into his 70s at least by now. (He retired in 2000.) He considers the mission a failure as people weren't meant to die from the big explosives he attached to their ship.

A replacement for Terry Funk (may have been around the time he had a sick horse). In 2001 he robbed a bank, and then he got caught when a few months later, he robbed the same bank with his own car. His excuse in court was "personal financial hardship" - it didn't work. On release from jail, he then robbed another bank and went back to jail. He was also blacklisted for a bit after beating up Eddie Gilbert for real, as a hit job for another promoter. Being made of 100% hard drugs for most of his life, its a miracle he made it to 64. His family claim in his last few years he was focused on charity, providing Winter clothing to the poor and homeless of Denver.

Terrible news for Gotham City.

The family of former Dundee and Sunderland player John MacPhail have asked fans for help to raise money to convert their home to suit his needs, after he suffered permanent life changing brain damage in a fall.

It's also inaccurate as I up-voted Jimmy fn Nail, and while I am live and let live with trans issues, the last time I checked, I was a grumpy old guy. Well, hopefully no Vera Miles. But advice, Crumble - you'll get more satisfaction with less premature picking!

Oh the Oscars snubbed Marsha Hunt too - mentioned given her number of fans on this forum. -

Sky briefly cut out in the middle of it (thanks chaps) but it seems like there was quite a few snubs - including Hugh "his film won Best Picture" Hudson and Charlbi "the star of a film nominated for Best Pic LAST NIGHT" Dean as two. It came across as half-assed, and more insulting given John Travolta, who introduced the segment, was still visibly upset over the death of his dear friend Olivia Newton-John. -

Nope. And David Warner got a snub to add to his BAFTAs one.
