Plants: The Other Life Form
DevonDeathTrip replied to Sir Creep's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
First ever leaf grown on the moon fails to survive the cold of the lunar night. -
Really sad. I must say that I think his obit chances are 50/50 at best, but we shall see.
-
Exactly! I've got high hopes for this year's terrorist effort, Amer Deghayes. Young, unique and would definitely obit, that would be eighteen DDP points if he'd oblige. I'm following developments in Idlib (where's he's holed up, surrounded by Russians) with great interest.
-
Thanks Spade, I've bought you three coffees
-
A random stat, there are an incredible 140 teams on the 2019 roster who have now entered the DDP for ten or more years. Two teams, one of them @drunkasaskunk, have been at it for over twenty years. I didn't count, but there are also many, many teams entering for the eighth or ninth time. Very impressive brand loyalty and a level of return business that some websites would kill for.

Three unique picks; Dean Hoyle, Amer Deghayes and Kate Figes (even if the first one was a bit, ahem, inspired). Mrs DDT keeping faith in Anthea Turner, another unique pick, to do the business this year.

Alas I have to report that Gary Perkins, country singer and Deathrace pick by yours truly, succumbed to pancreatic cancer ...about a month ago.

So... What Games Are You Playing?
DevonDeathTrip replied to the_engineer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Not really a games man, but I do have GTA San Andreas on my phone. What better way to relax after work than potter around with a flamethrower, incinerating random pedestrians? -
There is a Strongest Man thread, but it's been locked for nearly fifteen years.

A rare recent photo of Richard Tandy (L) from November...

I don't doubt it, which is why I picked her as well. Very hard to get a unique pick with potential these days.

Sorry I didn't respond to your PM, msc. Count me in

It isn't a criticism as such and I've missed out on a good few obits myself over the years, so I'm as guilty as anyone. The way I see it, someone becomes famous in your own mind if they're ill enough for consideration; the illness trumps everything else. Subsequently, gravely unwell Australian sci-fi novelists, niche Bollywood film directors, obscure rock climbers, etc find themselves on your shortlist when they really have no business being there. When that person dies, in the cold light of day, we find that they perhaps were a smaller fish than we might have previously given them credit for and their absence is unlikely to be noted by the mainstream press journalists who gaze into the huge pond we all swim about in.

I predict the List of the Lost might be rather long this year.
-
Ah yes, Dean Hoyle. A very great man, revered by the Huddersfield faithful.
-
Here's my effort. Hoping to beat my worst ever finish of 28th place in 2018. I'm definitely dining out on past glories these days. Andrew Fairlie (joker) Bernice McCabe Amer Deghayes Fatima Ali Samu Anoa’i Julian Fiano Ruth Bader Ginsburg Fernando Ricksen Lee Kerslake Peter Tork Dennis Goldberg Michael Robinson Andrew McGahn Jean-Louis Trintignant Dean Hoyle Kate Figes Shirley Boone Kathleen Blanco Norm Coleman Gerard Basset

I nearly missed the fact that Gerard Basset was now gravely ill and it was only when I saw him picked on various team entries in the last few days that I realised there was another reason, apart from me being a pioneering trendsetter. So he's back in, although I'm still not convinced of his obituary chances. Some great teams so far. Good luck everyone - picks and contestants alike.

It's here, Yvonne. Always nice to see you https://deathlist.net

Matriarch of the firm, Katherine Jackson makes a spirited last minute bid for inclusion in 2019 squads.
