Have I missed something?

Only 600 sitting MPs voted in the speaker's election. So about 46 didn't bother showing up, including my own beloved MP... I wouldn't read too much into it. Not true. All but the 5 Sinn Fein MPs and two others (including Paisley) turned up. However out of those who turned up, not all voted. Oh right. Anyway. He may contend his Westminster seat next year. Hardly the actions of a dying man. Believe me Windsor, there has been many a patently unwell MP still fighting their seat before croaking it. It happens time and time again. There must be soome remunerative reason for this... Paisley is visiting Scotland tomorrow...to protest against the wrongs of the Catholic Church. Edit: Actually, he may be coming on Thursday when the Pope shows up.

Since we are on the topic, there have not been many young suicides in Fraserburgh for some strange reason. A couple of years ago some guy who was the same age as me killed himself. I did know him, and hung (no pun intended) with a cousin of his. We basically made no end of jokes about it. When I was at school I was accused of being rather sick and striking below the belt on one occassion. A guy in my year was involved in a car crash - his friend died at the wheel, and he was lucky to be alive. Anyway, I got on with the survivor before the crash, but afterwards he was a complete asshole towards me - almost like the flick of a switch. Everybody was pandering to him because of what had happened. Then one day, after he had treated me like a piece of shit again, I went in a rage saying (paraphrase): "I'm not standing for any more of his crap. I'm not going to pussy-foot around him just becuase he has taken a bash to the head...". I thought it was a fair comment - my peer group disagreed.

Isn't that a bit excessive? I don't think I could name 1000 famous people, let alone 1000 famous people who I think are going to die in the coming year. One of my aims is to included all those picked in the DDP, and this year that's 2,129 people to study. Guess I've a few listed on the spreadsheet that aren't picked on the DDP so I'm not close to half way to where I really want to be. Least I've been entering blocks of new info by capital letter of surname and now I'm topside of the A's, H's, I's, Mc's, Q's, U's, V's, X's, Y's & Z's. It's a bleadin pain! Well, according to that ultra reliable organ, Wikki, his dad lived till he was 95!! I suspect, somebody like RA or TMIB would have more of an idea than me. Im not really into death. Oh, welcome, we need all the help we can get. Blinkin' Blimey! That's something I don't bother to factor in. I feel it's how you live your life that counts - but prove me wrong, and I'll then have even more work cut out for me to "undertake". RA, you are an absolute legend. I would suspect that, given your utterly meticulous tracking of possibles, you would have a fair idea, given the trends your data may throw up, not only the age he will die but at what time, where he will be and whether he had his eggs poached or scrambled. Now throw that genuine modesty to one side and tell us when you think he will be departing. With the greatest of respect, for all the genius and meticulous planning he does, my top 50 is doing better than his top 50...and none of mine were executed. Oh well, that blows my theory out of the water. RA, you are a fraud!!!!! The best fraudsters have to expend a lot of time and effort to make sure their efforts are well rewarded. I was merely pointing out that I am doing better than you this year and I'm not a quarter as obsessive as you are. So obviously meticulous planning doesn't alwats yield results. Given the lack of information about him online, I doubt that he would be worth choosing on the DDP - he probably wouldn't get an obit (he doesn't even have a wiki page).

I really don't understand this notion or obsession with most significant death. Surely it is relative. For example, if Michael Douglas were to die, it would personally have no effect on my life. If the lowly character of BCAlum2000 were to die however, that would be more significant to my life because he would no longer be around to do my tits in by constantly going on about the 'most significant' death of the year.

We do have a policy for that. If any one member of this forum is accused of murdering a pick, we just pin it on a certain nutter in New York...

Ah, really? Is that common among DL'ers, I wonder? My girlfriend knows all my bad habits, and is always complaining about my morbid and tasteless interests - which are typical for regulars here, I suppose. Especially when I leap for joy after a new hit, she's eyeing me with a combination of embarassment, amusement and pity. It goes both ways, though. Her fascination is Farmville... I don't believe that anyone on DL even HAS A girlfriend I haven't.... I have. She just doesn't know about it...
