No it's not just you, you're absolutely right and as we're just over a day away from month 6, Deathlist is on the road to having one of its worst years yet... some pretty stupid picks this year and why Jade Goody wasn't selected despite several people suggesting her, beats me! Dai was really a nobody - an unemployed bum with a difference - he had money. Enough to sit around on his botty and attend garden parties every so often. Wendy Richard was not internationally famous but she was highly respected and was quite a good actor... but fame wise they're not very notable. As for notable deaths, I think the most significant ones this year would be amongst actors such as Pat Hingle, Dom DeLuise and Ricardo Montalban, but they're no Patrick Swayzes if you get what I'm saying.... I quite agree. The standard of demise has dropped. To be fair, if we're picking Pat Hingle and Ricardo Montalban as significant (Dom DeLuise I'll accept grudgingly), then we're busily burrowing beneath the bottom of the barrel. It's about time a few notable grave-dodgers sstopped breathing my air. Kennedy, Reagan, Douglas - you know who I mean. Give it up. Now.

Dead Edward Kennedy/Curse of the Kennedys
Twelvetrees replied to DevonDeathTrip's topic in DeathList Forum
I'd settle for someone who doesn't get elected just because his last name is Kennedy. Still better than someone who gets elected because his / her last name is Bush. -
Minimalists (and other classical composers/musicians)

None whatsoever, I'm pleased to say. I'm off to see Harry's new music theatre piece 'The Corridor' in July. See you there. -

A most excellent suggestion. Glass, Reich, Part and Boulez are all doing well at the moment, but there are others of similar vintage; We all know about Elliott Carter, who made a sprightly century last December, but Henri Dutilleux is 93 John Gardner is 92 Gyorgy Kurtag is 83 Hans Werner Henze is 82, as is John Joubert Einojuhani Rautavaara is 81 Peter Sculthorpe is 80 All, save for Gardner, are still working. There are others, but It'd just get boring However, MiB, Carl Andre - he of the bricks - is a mere 73 -
That was close - we could have done without that trip to Carlisle next season. However, today's majestic 4-0 win at Morecambe suggests we can travel. I've a feeling that we can do something next season. Roll on the South Coast derby for 2010-11; I don't want Southampton to go out of business - I'd have nothing to cheer when they lose!

Oh yes. Steve Fletcher's 100th goal for AFC Bournemouth keeps us in the football league for an 87th consecutive season. You probably haven't heard of him, but the man is a legend on the south coast. However many goals Ted MacDougall, Phil Boyer or Colin Clarke may have scored, Fletch's goal today outweighs them all. I feel sorry for Luton, though and the crippling 30 point penalty they faced. Grimsby and Chester are palpably the worst teams in the football league and both of them deserve relegation - nothing spiteful, just an appreciation of their performances. I'm not much given to hyperbole, but Eddie Howe, the youngest manager in the professional game, may just be the man to watch. I'm so happy right now, I don't care who's died!

According to his wiki page he's a mere strapling at 66 but the year of his birth is a moot point. Whatever, he'll rock until he drops.

Cricket Thread. Only Mad Dogs And Englishmen
Twelvetrees replied to The Four Horsemen's topic in DeathList Forum
I think it's time that the DLF had its own cricket graveyard, rather than relegate players of the noble game to the 'extra-curricular' outfield. After all, there seems to be a thread for players of American Rounders. I shall start by noting the demise of Ivan Madray. Perhaps not the most auspicious player to grace the game, but a West Indian Test cricketer nonetheless. -
She'd never agree to appear on the same list as Olivia de Havilland.

I've nothing against Chester (apart from Paul Baker), but thanks to today's result, it looks like we've avoided the Bournemouth-Weymouth derby next year. It doesn't look good - your goal difference is so poor that you need to win both remaining games. We'll take Grimsby down next week, so here's hoping you beat Aldershot to set up a dramatic final day.

The British composer Richard Arnell died on April 10th at the age of 92. One can only hope that some of his quite wonderful music might gain some exposure now he has started decomposing. The press may notice this when they realise that he was Boris Johnson's grandfather. Shame I dropped him from my DDP team for this year.

Le Parisien is reporting the death of Maurice Jarre, the French film composer - most well-known for the score to 'Lawrence of Arabia' - and father of Jean-Michel, at the age of 84 in Los Angeles.

Read Any Good Books Lately?

Agreed on both points. I do think Ackroyd's powers are diminishing, though. I'm currently edging my way carefully through 'The Kindly Ones', Jonathan Littell's 1000 page epic of the Eastern Front. Executions, cannibalism and bowel movements are all described in delightful detail. -
Is that near 'Beech'yhead? You seem not to have twigged about my earlier comment regarding suffering and fools. I'll also have you know that my extensive fan club has branches throughout the South East. As it's unfair to you (if you never saw the responses), it was simply that another member misread your comments as antagonistic, whereas I pointed out your continuation of the tree-based references showed (to me) that it was a light-hearted response. It does show how touchy at least one of the moderators is. Actually, is it possible to elevate Banshee Scream to moderator level? I reckon a few moments after (s)he clicks the <add reply> button, (s)he wishes that could be extracted. In the end, it'd save everyone the torture of ill-spelt drivel....includibf the author. Thank you for clearing up something that had seemed mysterious. You are quite right, I didn't see any responses. I shall make more effort to root out potential misunderstandings in future. Be assured, my bark is worse than my bite.

Twelvetrees could this possibly be you? Or are you more of a mediƦval jouster, come train spotter, come twitcher, come fletcher? And please accept it as an uneducated guess and an admired compliment rather than a sN-word behind the back insult. Yes, that's me all right, rehearsing for DC3. It's going to be a bladder-whacking bonanza. I must admit that the mechanical menagerie scared the sh!t out of me. I mean, what's wrong with entertaining the kiddies by sticking your hand up a badger?

Well, I made an earlier offer, and November 7 is good with me. Bring it on. Oh, and as I have been unable to make earlier meets, do tell me about the previous venues and their problems. If you're planning on coming, let me know when you can be in central London, and I can (given enough notice) give you detailed instructions on how to get wherever we're going. Finally, just to let you know, I'm not one of those people who don't suffer fools gladly. I don't suffer them at all.

I'd rather have a Scalectrix.

I'll got for March 21. A Saturday would mean good media coverage for Sunday's red tops.

The new site's looking good - especially the 'Likely Lads' style wallpaper. Good job, NAP.

This is me sticking my hand up for the non-ANZACs. If we want 'High Summer', then allow me to suggest Saturday July 25. I've a working knowledge of central London hostelries and would be delighted to co-ordinate. Given enough notice, I may even seek to arrange a Death Crawl.

The science fiction author Philip Jose Farmer lasted a long time - until yesterday, that is. I do hope this is the right thread...you can get in so much trouble these days.

Dead Socks, Deadsox?

Hail Ulitzer - a major contribution there. Beyond Dale and Windsor (possibly Bryan) it's all bit part players, discounting, as we should, 'Carry on Columbus'. However, one name is missing from your excellent list - Peter Rogers, the famed Carry On producer who has been mentioned before, and who turned 95 yesterday.

Thanks for the enlightenment Banshees. I thought you were on a sabbatical. I quite agree. Let us gang up on the arriviste and make them feel unwelcome - after all, s/he did use a split infinitive. Politely, HMcSetc., do you really have so much time that you can identify two typos in my posts? Kudos, my friend - I shall be more careful in the future. If BS is really on leave (for which I read extensive psychiatric treatment - again), someone has to take his place. Please let it not be me. Anyways, for the purposes of relevance, this site, if it has not been reported yet, records the deaths of such undoubted luminaries as Sir Donald Luddington and Guy Hunt, and may be of inestimable use for death hunters everywhere. Peace x.
