Was not being sarcastic. Also have no specific desire to be a moderator. The Joe Longthorne thread was/is waaaaay off topic but that is no one person's fault. Only put in the posts I did because I wanted my little bit of the thread to be on topic. I do not greatly mind if a forum is off topic-do mind if no one hasosted about the topic for months on end. So, although I may not be your biggest fan or anything I would like to say that I do always find your posts readable, witty, and interesting.

For what little it's worth I haven't touched alcohol for 8 years. Also there do seem to be fewer boozy celeberities. It used to be that your Ollie's and your Bernard's were often publically drunk/dying and were good safe bets for a DL type list. The likes of PD will be cleansing himself in rehab any day now.

Listen very carefully to what I'm about to say: I was sending you a quiet word as to your propensity for polls of questionable relevance. Speculation regarding the next DL success is all over the board and a poll (especially an incomplete one) will not contribute to that discussion if it's posted several different ways. With the recent influx of members, I felt it would be helpful to have some geographic perspective to apply to the posts here. You have set yourself up nicely as a target by not getting the point at all. A target? ? Is your definition of target -"A person liable to have their posts changed by a moderator who only visits the forum once a month. A person liable to be sent unsolicited personal messages by Americans"?

You really should read the thread. It was posted here by Tempus on 27th Sept. Fine. But I still say it is terrific news.

One of those pupils was Michael Flanders of 'Flanders & Swann' (Mud Glorious Mud) who was a friend of Benns. Don't bother to look if he's still alive, he died in 1975. One of Benn's pals from Oxford was the more normal sounding David Butler (psephologist of election night specials from 1950s - 1970s - still alive) I really like Flanders and Swann. I had no idea they were mates. (Him and tony Benn that is -thanks Josco)

Also if you read what I posted you would see that I said I thought we could honour that request. Not that we would but that I think we will.
