Geez! While I was tooling around Pennsylvania in my rented Focus wagon ( ) things were getting super-heated around here! Man, I miss all the fun... You all know my opinions on posters such as BC, LB5C, etc., so I shall say naught [nought?] on the matter other than if we pin anymore threads, they'll fill the entire front page of the forum! [Go Oilers!]

Don't you worry Mr funcity! Mr Fordham has not been ditched; he has been given some well-deserved time off from sitting in my avatar window in order to put his full energy into cheering for an Oilers victory. He will be back when the Oilers beat the Hurricanes in a dramatic game 7 series final. In the meantime, please feel free to enjoy a likeness of Mr Smyth (not the real Mr Smyth, obviously. The real Mr Smyth is otherwise engaged, currently en route to exterminate some ducks).

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2006

Not all of us: though admittedly I found some of the questions, er, questionable. For example, when I walk into a seating area, so far as I'm aware I couldn't care less about whether I sit on the left side or the right side. I prefer to sit as close to the front as possible, regardless of sides. -
Um... [Editor's note: for those not clever enough to put two and two together, please read the above comment as: "I voted for Claude Levi-Strauss again"]

GO TEAM DL!! [Editor's note: for those not clever enough to put two and two together, please read the above comment as: "I'm so pleased that we've had another 2006 graduate. I am very impressed with our abilities to select dying people."]

Most Obsessive Deathlisters
in eternum+ replied to Gunjaman5000's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Very, very oddly, my posts have been moved from where they were originally posted. Not quite sure why. This: was posted in the Stan Kunitz thread in honour of our most recent graduate. And this: was posted in the Who'll be #6 thread as a comment on my consistent voting habits. Is someone playing silly buggers? Is this some sort of comment on the quality of my posts? Because if it is, could whomever moved my posts PLEASE PM me the reasons why, or notch up my warn-o-meter, or something. I am really not impressed AT ALL. -
Last week in Alberta - the place with the oil sands - petrol was $108.4. F*ckers.

Hippos and Birdies to all members celebrating birthdays whilst I was living it up in the big T-O. I went out for breakfast in your honours. -
Please do not besmirch the merch. I hold it near and dear to my heart, especially the knickers. And with regard to the hacker... need we worry when the brilliant Messers Hein and fan are everpresent?

You know, it's this kind of abandon-all-hope-when-the-chips-are-down mentality that is really a source of consternation for me. It's like sports "fans" (and I use that in the loosest sense of the word) who wholeheartedly "support" their team when it is doing well, but as soon as the team's chips are down, the so-called "fans" lose interest and their support wanes. You gotta support the team come what may, iain. The DL may not be doing so well at the moment, but with our support it'll turn around. Even if we went a year (gasp! knock on wood!) without a death, we should all stil be rallying around in support of The Team.

Sounds like this could be a whole new direction for the band.

Where Has Tempus, Godot, Everybody, Anybody Gone?
in eternum+ replied to Windsor's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Reading this thread puts me in mind of a song by one of the bands I was quite partial to as a teenager. Below are some helpful tips as to where Tempus might be, as suggested by Camper Van Beethoven, when they were looking for Bill: We'll find you Tempus! -
Maybe not at the supermarket, but what about those boxes that flatpacked furniture come in, from Argos or Ikea or the like? I'm sure some of those would be plenty big enough. Plus, your widow would get a lovely new chest of drawers or sideboard out of it.

His death was also just announced on CBC national radio, if that counts for anything.

Likewise, but for HSBC. All perfectly amiable, but they ask you to spell EVERYTHING! Even London ! There are lots of reasons for that though not just being unable to spell. I work in offshore phone banking and believe me everything HAS to be confirmed back with the customer even words like Street etc as we have to cover ourselves and you get into trouble if you don't check spellings. Having said that I've seen some very odd spellings from my English speaking colleagues including the misspelling of box Secondly with bad telephone lines, noisy call centres and different accents it can be easy to mistake words so again you have to check It's bloody stupid I know but don't blame the poor call centre workers When I very first moved to England (i.e. for the first six months) I had a job where I had to post direct debit slips into various banks. On several occassions I had to contact the banks in order to get their correct postal address. This was in the days before call centres moved abroad. I don't think you guys appreciate just how different and difficult to understand some of the regional british accents can be. I used to dread having to make those phone calls, because I knew I wouldn't be able to understand a bloody word being spoken to me. It made me feel terrible and embarrassed.

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2006

My guess would be yes - as long as they are then granted the rights to make a fly-on-the-wall about his slow and agonsising fight against death. -
A 99-year-old man was interviewed on Leno tonight. His secrets to longevity are: 1 - his weight has not fluctuated more than 5lbs from 145lbs since he graduated from high school; 2 - he doesn't eat very much red meat; 3 - he chews his food very thoroughly. He is a current table-tennis champion, he is still allowed to drive (including at night), and he recently (five years ago) married a 70-year-old. He also read out one of his poems (he writes poems too - mind and body, folks) entitled something like "Advice to Ageing Lovers" which ended with a couple of lines about how the great thing about dentures is that he doesn't have to worry about being bitten during oral sex. He seemed very spry.
