Happy Birthday T4H! I apologise for not producing some sort of emoticon gorgeousness, but I think I'm still slightly hung over from my own birthday celebrations (which extended into last night) and the screen is slightly blurry in front of me. I officially pass the birthday hang-over torch to you - Go large! -

What lovely birthday messages to wake up to! Thank you all very much! My day's plans include: getting dressed eating drinking openning presents to be followed by going to the pub and then quite possibly by going dancing Hurrrah! -
Maybe we should have one thread where non-DL candidates who die, regardless of the famousness, are posted, kind of like a heads-up. Then, millwall32 can start a poll where we all have the opportunity to vote as to whether said dead person should be in the 'Near Misses' or the 'Not exactly famous' thread. Once that is complete, then the posts can be moved to the winning thread by a conscientious and dedicated Mod. Then, after a grace period of say, a couple of weeks (perhaps we could vote on this as well?), someone else (another dedicated member, or perhaps the same mod, or even iain - who am I to judge? We could vote on this as well) could scour the Internet, and Wiki of course (god forbid we don't involve Wiki in the process!), and if their death proves more or less notable that the thread we've assigned them to, we could have another vote (I miss m32's polls) to see if we're happy with the dead person's original assignment, based on the new information. Finally, perhaps the DLWG can conduct an exit survey at the six-week point, to see if DL members are happy with this procedure, results to be posted so as to allow for scrutinisation. We could also set up a Complaints Commission (to be headed up by either notapotato or Tempus Fugit) for members to go to if they feel the process is unfair, not comprehensive enough, or if they feel they've been wronged in any way. Not only thorough, but also keeping in the obsessive nature of this debate. Can't say fairer than that.

Err... I don't really get it, but I like it!

I'm all for having an animal as a candidate, as long as s/he/it passes the requisite DL tests for candidacy.

There is a (relatively) new section in von Hagens' Bodyworlds exhibit showing body slices of super-obese bodies vs. non-super-obese bodies. If I remember correctly, they're lateral (?... head-to-toe is what I mean) slices so that you can see the effects of the fat on the internal organs. No doubt seperately plastinated organs will follow along shortly.

That'll be this chap then. Nine curries and 40 pints? I never understand how they can afford that sort of lifestyle, apart from anything else. You couldn't do it on disability benefit, surely? Wouldn't dying be a better way to demonstrate this?

They do that in Italy as well. I quite like it too, though it would appear that it's either against the law to smile in photographs in Italy, or against the law to put photos of smiling people on gravestones. The piccies on the gravestones always look to me as though the person's just found out that they're dead, and they're none too pleased about it.

I plan to spend Good Friday nursing a hangover acquired from going to Ladies' Night at the Cook County Saloon on Thursday night, Phase 1 of the birthday extravaganza. I plan to spend Easter Sunday in bed nursing the severe hangover resuting from the raucouse birthday celebrations of the night before.

Beautifully steered back on topic there, IE+. The crowd applaud! [bowing]I aim to please, AtJ. Every time.[/bowing] It's true though: Italy does have some spectacular cemeteries. They certainly know how to do up the whole death-and-grieving thing. I think my favourite Italian cemetery is the one in Verona: it's really something - I spent much time in there.

I have discovere that I have "a thing" for belt buckles. Today I went to the Antiques and Collectibles fair with a couple of friends, as we'd never been to one before and thought it might be interesting. It was in this massive building, so there were tons of stalls, selling all manner of rubbish. Anyway, early on I discovered that belt buckles - not belts, just the buckles - are somewhat common amongst vendors. I then spent the rest of the day scouring the tables for belt buckes. Nothing else, just belt buckles. I came away with two (yes, only two!) - one is solid pewter and reads: 1999 Labatt Brier Edmonton ...the last shootout of the century!. The other is similar to the one I bought last week (image posted earlier in this thread), except it has a photo of a logging lorry on it. It's nnnniiiiicccceeee. Honed my bargaining skills too: the latter I got for $4 instead of $5, and the former (the solid pewter one) I got for $7 instead of $9. Bargains!! Buckles I resisted include a Crown Royal buckle, which was very tempting but I didn't like the shape, a 1985 Calgary Stampede buckle, which was very nice but too heavy and too expensive, and an HILARIOUS buckle which had a gun in the middle and which read NRA: honoring our shooting history.
