Irate Visitors Rage Here, If You Must.

What's a "malakas" ? I reckon it was supposed to read "marakas", enhancing the "Latino" flavour of the post.

    The Deathlist Howto

Well DDT, I think it's fairly safe to say that I know less than you about anything computer-related (mainly because it's fairly safe to say that I know less than anybody about that sort of thing) but I did live south of Genoa (Cinque Terre) for a while several years ago, so if I can help you out with anything related to that part of your post, please do let me know. Not sure if you were looking because you're planning a trip there, but if so I can recommend some nice places, tasty food, etc. There's also a particularly lovely cemetery in Santa Marguerita, which I thoroughly recommend.

Thanks Grim, duly noted. Lovely to see you about, though I must say that we'd come up with some pretty interesting reasons for your absence and the forum problums.

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

£20 says this'll be a C4 documentary by the end of the year.

I know this is going to sound very weird, but I feel like we're all at a party in a huge house, and all the lights have gone off so it's pitch black. People are moving around, but you don't know who else is at the party until you chance into the same room as someone else. Quite an unsettled feeling, like you know who might be at the party, but you don't know who you're gonig to encounter next. I'm not sure that makes any sense... and I haven't even been drinking! But that's what this all reminds me of. I'm in the chatroom, btw, if anyone wants to come in and tell me what's going on...

I agree. The lack of being able to see who else is around makes me feel every-so-slightly paranoid.

    Ho! Ho! Ho! Calcutta

I think Michael Caine would make a fine CLS, when they post-humously celebrate the latter's life in film. Don't know who they could get to play CLS in his younger days; it'd have to be someone who could pull off 'intrepid', what with all the foraging around in the Brazilian jungle (Ewan McGregor maybe? He bears some resemblance to MC): Young CLS Old CLS I foresee a story along the lines of: Old CLS on his deathbed (quite possibly in a wheelchair, so there can be some scene variation) decides to enlist a ghost-writer type (some young and attractive woman, not Paris Hilton!) to record his memoires, and the scenes of the film are the different recounted stories. Not the most original plot, but excitement and adventure abounding.

    When Deathlisters Go Shopping

So very true, I find retail emporia to be places of fear and loathing. Bite your tongue! I am pretty much a shopaholic. I've recently had a lot of work to do, so it was no shopping for ie+ and I was starting to go through some serious withdrawal. However, yesterday I hit the shops and bought this (I'm big into tops with stuff on the back but not on the front), this (though with short sleeves - also stuff on the back, but also on the front), a top from here (that I can't show because my computer isn't souped up enough - it's pink and strappy and my mum says it looks like underwear), and this belt (which I love). The next thing I am planning on buying is a ticket to see The Stills in April. Or quite possibly some footwear. Or some jewellery. Or all of the above. Most recent book I bought was Death's Door: Modern Dying and the Ways we Grieve (2006) by Sandra Gilbert. Let the good times roll! ff - Sounds like you have one pimped-up ride - am currently rideless and very jealous!

    The Weatherman Death Pool

What? You were never 15 years old? Or male? Surely you jest? I could be a 12-year-old girl. And yet you continue to post...
  12. Survey says: Your Eyes Should Be Gray Your eyes reflect: Intensity and drive What's hidden behind your eyes: A sensitive soul That's right - so don't piss me off, unless you want a smack!

    The Weatherman Death Pool

ie+ has a very good point. In order to maintain the integrity of this pool, there should be some way of locking the page to prevent anymore changes. Weatherman, how do you plan to prevent the deathpool page from being edited now that the deadline has passed? Well i'm sure Weatherman will be kind enough to edit his page and let me in. I missed the boat making my picks and all. Couldn't beat the clock. Although where you are (and where he is) it's still March 31st, so really, you have a good few hours.

    The Weatherman Death Pool

I don't understand why you would identify your own deadpool as sh*t. But then, I've never been a 15-year old male, so perhaps I simply don't get the logic.

    The Weatherman Death Pool

Given that it's Wiki, doesn't that mean any page can be edited by anyone? My guess would be that w90 didn't make that particular addition, given the number of supporters he has here...

    Caption Competitions

Camilla had no idea that Death was so close.
  17. I think you meant to post in the irony thread MBA! CP, please don't encourage him/her/it to post anymore than s/he/it already does!
  18. Replace 'cat' with 'student', and you've pretty much described my life. BTW - I shall be coming back as an elephant.

    Caption Competitions

Yes, after posting the caption I realised that I'd conflated Mr Head-Crusher with his arch nemesis, the Face Squisher, but couldn't be arsed to change what I'd put [read: I thought it had been quoted in subsequent posts, so figured if I went in and changed it, evidence would continue to linger]. [Defensive Former Groupie mode]Not only did I go and see KITH live when they were at the height of fame, I saw every episode as they were aired, including the Pilot episode. I had the Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet album and would have gone to see them live except for the fact that the gig was in a bar and I was still a minor at the time. Bruce McCulloch went to my high school (though, er, several years before I did) and while I was a student there, I found the Yearbook in which his Grade 12 (year of graduation) photo and blurb appeared in the library archives. Myself and an equally obsessed friend then had T-shirts made, with the photo on the front and the blurb on the back. (We wore the shirts when we went to see them live.) Furthermore, myself and said friend wrote a number of letter to the Kids, in which (if I remember correctly) we suggested that we should appear on the programme. We also requested a replica Hecubus puppet. Not only were we never sent one, but the bastards never even responded (though their crappy fan club did).[/Defensive Former Groupie mode] I recently heard on the CBC that the Kids in the Hall are getting back together. In honour of this, the show hosts played These are the Daves I Know and it made me feel very nostalgic!

    Charles Haughey

I did a search and I have not found any mention of it. Can you post a link to the story? Regards, ff Well, it's not on Wikipedia, so it musn't be true.
  21. My BBC homepage (how ex-pat am I?!) has informed me that a programme about how to have a good death is going to be on tonight (BBC2, 9pm). If any of you elect to watch it, please do feel free to provide a mini-review (either here or via PM). I'd be interested to know about it. In the meantime, I shall read about planning my own good death. My death is going to be great!

    The Deathlist Kitchen

Rather depressingly, I don't own a fridge. When I first moved to England and got my own flat (rented, of course), I bought a fridge. I was VERY proud of my fridge as I strongly felt that the purchase of such a large 'white' appliance represented "living somewhere", "being home", "being settled", whatever. And I lived there for three years - quite "settled" for me. Of course, then I moved and had to sell the fridge (and most of my other stuff as well). Now, back in the life of a nomad, grown-upism (aka the owning of things such as refridgerators and the like) continues to elude me. I could tell you what's in my mum's fridge, but it's not really all that interesting. I shall live vicariously through your fridges... Oh dear. I wonder what that says about me.

    Near misses 2006

Damnit. That ' Guest ' was me. Forgot to log in AGAIN!!! Um... Given that Mr Weinberger's death has been discussed at length all day, and given the fact that Mr Weinberger is/was in fact on this year's list and therefore not "a miss" at all (near or otherwise), are you sure you want to claim ownership of that particular 'guest' comment?

    Caspar Weinberger

Given the likelihood that Caspar's DL obit shan't be written for, er, a while... any chance someone could fix the erroneous pluralisation on the front page? Unless it's some kind of Weinbergeresque "in" joke that I don't get... because I actually have no idea who he is (aside from his being a committed DL candidate who was willing to go the whole hog for the greater good that is the 2006 list... unlike some candidates who insist on continuing to live ).

    The Deathlist Kitchen

Speaking of strawberries... I was recently (aka last night) bemoaning (to myself, in my head) the lack of TASTY strawberries currently available to me. The strawberries available here are in no way comparable to delicious juicy British strawberries. Enjoy them while you can, y'all...
