Things to do while waiting for Death ... 2005
in eternum+ replied to The Yeti's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
It's a spooky feeling to be the only member on the site. I have that feeling like when you share a house with a whole bunch of people and they're all out for the evening except you, and you don't know when they'll be back. (There are a few guests, but less than 10, so it really is vast quagmire of emptiness. I'm curious, though, about the guest who appears to be printing off shedloads of threads, and also emailing them somewhere. Could this be a member in disguise?...) I'm very bored. I am procrastinating doing my work. So I was wandering round the empty halls of the site and chanced upon the Calendar. Anyone have any idea what it's for? It appears particularly blank. Can we just add things to it that we want noted? Like our birthdays? That's predominantly what I use my calendar for - to write down people's birthdays so that I don't forget them. Or perhaps, um, events? I give up! -
I have already been anagrammed.

I'm thinking this is another one for the DL page-a-day calendar.

Aw shucks... thanks! And although I can't find your original post thus, I believe today is the first day of your new life as a post-twunter. Happy Twunting! -

raider+Oct 27 2005, 04:24 AM--> QUOTE(Tom( raider @ Oct 27 2005, 04:24 AM) Forgive me my ignorance, but who or what is DvD? You are not messing up you're tv-detectives, are you? Whoops! Yes, you're absolutely right. I was, of course, meaning to refer to Andy Griffith. With all these TV detectives running round in my head, sometimes it's hard to keep them all straight. DvD appears to be a pillar of health at the mo. -

I'm nowhere near any posting milestone. Nor can I even catch a glimmer of anything even remotely resembling twuntdom. So I'd just like to take this opportunity to highlight the fact that, for what I believe is the very first time ever, I have entered the Top 10 Poster of the Day leaderboard. Any not only entered, I'm currently fourth!!! above TF, BS, and Windsor! Tiny firework for me ! -

Now that really is a heinous crime against the English language. Don't be pedantic TF, we all knew what in eternum meant+* (can't believe I am saying this after what I posted about BS's 'problum', still the thread is gone so there is no proof ) I do repent of my pedantry. Truly, I am a fraud. My grasp of the complexities of the English language, is akin to a chimpanzee's understanding of quantum physics. Well, I didn't want to say... -
Do I even need to say it?

Which, last time I checked, was considered a pretty good book. -

Now that really is a heinous crime against the English language. Thank you! I do nothing by halves. -
You are, of course, right as usual notapotato. I've just checked the volume, and it was indeed William's lesser known, and less literate, brother Dwayne.

Our childhoods are sounding similarer and similarer. Except for us at school it wasn't Scottish country dancing, it was line dancing. Yes, where I come from, people wear cowboy hats as part of their everyday attire... Oh. And Canada's never ever ever ever come anywhere near the World Cup. Though I have seen the National team play a few times. Play, not win. -
Are you talking to me? Are you? ARE YOU??

A much appreciated offer. And although the idea of highland dancing, brawny men performing the caber toss, deep-fried Mars bars and that fabulous accent all appeal to me (and the treacle, of course!), it would still be FAR too cold. I wouldn't mind swapping childhoods with someone from a nice, balmy climate. -
Is that a sleight on my poetic sensibilities? Oh well, Poetry Man I am not. I personally have yet to have a 'best' moment and/or memory. Not that every moment spent in the company of you all isn't good enough, of course...

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about your treacle scones. Treacle... mmmmmmm... -
I see. "That which we call a sandwich by any other name etc.." I suppose that's what Shakespeare really wanted to say, but "sandwich" didn't scan properly. Maybe that's why they started calling it a 'wedge?: Thou needeth not love nor knowledge When thou canst munch a tasty wedge I think I came across that in one of his lesser-known sonnets.

It used to be one of the big UNICEF fundraising campaigns every year, and almost every kid would have one. Don't know if they still do it or not. We used to play the treacle scone game at our birthday parties, but not with scones, with doughnuts. That was always one of my favourites. -
Whilst walking home from work today through a really lovely park filled with fantastic Autumnly colours, I was thinking about how maybe someone should start a thread so that DL members, if they so choose, can post their willingness to be included in the DL if they ever come to fit the criteria. I mean, you know when a lot of the ranters say things like: "how would you like it if a bunch of people were predicting your deaths, you sick m*therf*ckers" (sorry about that - was getting into the role...)? Then someone can simply direct them to the thread where they can see exactly how we'd feel about it. I myself would be happy to commit myself to such an inclusion. I would also be happy, if I found out I only had six months or so left to live (and as long as it was at least July) to get myself super-famous super-quick and let y'all know about it. Just trying to do my part.

Shell suits are also quite pricey nowadays. -
Nice dubbuyah btw, Windsor. I see you in a whole new light now.

Yeah, I have to say I found the whole 'money' thing over here really strange. When I was young (oh, the memories...) we wore UNICEF boxes round our necks and everyone who gave us candy also put money into the boxes, then we took them into school. I may be becoming cynical in my old age, but I would guess that nowadays the boxes would simply be nicked by the kids once they're full. Or maybe I only think that because that's what I would do now... -

Nnnnoooooooooooo! You can't put Peter on the list, he's ....he's.... he's..... erm you just can't put him on the list! Quite. When I was googling him a few months ago I came across an article (which I can't find now, gawddammit!) about how Peter Falk recently was attacked by a dog, and not only did he survive pretty much without a scratch, he and his wife have now adopted the dog. I'd say he'll be around for a while. With regard to DvD, I don't think he should be ruled out. If I were in the DDP he would be my wildcard. I think he deserves serious consideration for the 2006 list - let's not forget the quadruple bypass and the dead son. I don't think being over 80 should be the overriding decision making factor which governs who gets selected. -

Serious Contenders for Next Years List

As mentioned a while ago, I'd really like to see at least one of the 1970s/80s great TV detectives on the list next year. Most of 'em are starting to get up there in years. Although I'd LOVE to see Angela Lansbury on the list, and although she is over 80, she seems to be in pretty good nick - she had to have some sort of knee-replacement surgery this year so maybe she's starting to unravel at the seams a bit, but I reckon she's still got a few years left in her. In which case I say: let's have another made-for-TV Murder She Wrote feature length extravaganza Ang, and we'll see you here in a few years' time. Peter Falk is climbing up the years but is, apparently, as fit as a fiddle. Andy Griffith, however, might be worth considering. Here's his IMDB bio. He's had Guillain-Barre Syndrome, his son died a few years ago, and in 2000 he underwent a quadruple bypass (must be all that ukelele playing...). Maybe his 80th birthday will tip him over the edge?
