Now is this thread going to be merged into the Near Misses or are Pitney's posts in the Near Misses going to be moved here? Anyways whatever the case I was quite surprised to read of his death, I'm guessing it was a heart attack, he looked like a candidate for one. After reading about him I noticed we had the same birthday.

I have only just noticed that it shows whether the poster is on- or off-line on the far-left under each post. Is this new? Quite a useful feature. That feature has always been there, if you log in as anonymous it shows you as offline also. Given the way things are going though, I expect that function will be disappearing soon as well. -

What's happened to the Board Statistics, it no longer shows the members or number of guests on the forum. Only the birthday part is visible. Bit by bit this forum seems to be falling apart, a few weeks ago another function disappered; the list of users at the bottom of each thread, so you could see who else was looking at that thread. -

Of the current list those that have been seriously portrayed (as opposed to a comedic impersonation) in a film or TV drama are: Gerald Ford Margaret Thatcher Michael Foot Caspar Weinberger P W Botha Aaron Spelling Elizabeth Taylor Vera Lynn George Melly Mickey Rooney General Pinochet J D Salinger Tony Curtis Nelson Mandela Jake Lamotta Suharto Oscar Niemeyer Lady Bird Johnson Yes I probably do have too much time on my hands, time isn't flying today, it's merely loitering with intent.

I find it staggering that he was living in Northern Ireland, he must either have been tired of life or incredibly naive to believe that vengeance wouldn't be forthcoming. Those Irish Republicans have long memories, hell they're still pissed off about the potato famine. Great thats another county for us, ( Donegal is in the potato republic!) thats bound to finish Haughey when he finds out! What a fool am I, but that just makes it even more crazy that he was living there. I doubt the Garda gave any protection to a British spy.

I just Googled to find out, and you'd be horrified at the number of restaurants (mainly all stateside) that have got chicken-in-a-basket on the menu. The term though has entered the lexicon of sneer as a definition for hackneyed performers.

26 years of familiarity and its subsequent offspring, contempt and children. Oh Mr. Josco what a lucky man you are. -
So very true, I find retail emporia to be places of fear and loathing. Some years ago I bought WWI bayonet from a market stall, it has no useful modern purpose beyond being a rather dangerous letter opener. Why did I buy it? I have no idea, other than the fact it is very satisfying to hold. Makes me feel almost Dunnesque.

I'm on a waiting list to have my wisdom teeth extracted, my dentist said he couldn't do it, that it would have to be done at my local hospital by an oral surgeon. At least when I finally get it done it won't have cost me a penny as work done by an oral surgeon at an NHS hospital is free. A small consolation I suppose, I think I'll stick to whisky to numb the after op pain, far preferable to other pain killers.

Read Any Good Books Lately?

'Day of the Triffids' is one of my favourite books, I've read it several times over the years and it just gets better with each re-reading. Makes you realise how fragile 'civilization' really is, isn't it said that society is only 3 missed meals away from anarchy. Try Wyndham's novel 'The Chrysalids' it's pretty good as well. -
He is going to be sent to The Special court for Sierra Leone for trial, unfortunately that body only has the power to confiscate property and imprison. So no death penalty is possible. Therefore unless Charles Taylor kills himself or is murdered, he is unlikely to be a corpse anytime soon.

He's been on the list for 10 years. Is this a record? Clive has to be on the list 5 more times to beat the Queen Mother's record of 14 listings.
