This whole thread has really turned degenerate. Well done Hackenslash, for dragging it into the gutter.

Surely she doesn't qualify. Has it actually been mentioned in the UK media? Well it's already hit the U.S. news wires, so Hartlepool is covered. Can't see why it wouldn't hit the UK within a day or less, but who knows? Her death has been reported on the Reuters UK website: Playwright Wendy Wasserstein dies Hooray!, my second DDP hit. Well done Wendy.

The commies only got all of Eastern Europe because old Harry Truman bent over and let Comrade Stalin have his way. Worst President ever was Harry T, he could have liberated those areas under Stalin's control, he had the bomb uncle Joe didn't, but no, old Harry preferred to get shafted. True. Harry Truman could best be described as a gimp. Although how many bombs did the USA actually have at the end of the war? I've heard it was only two or three - ie they couldn't have continued the a-bombing of Japan for much longer. Then again, a-bombs are pretty crap compared to H-bombs - hiroshima was only about 30kt, was it not? Biggest H-bomb tested by Soviets in 1960s was 50MT, and it said they had an untested 100MT too. Then again, look at the UK's current Trident system - the satellites that would guide the missiles are controled by the USA - ie they could switch them off... Of course the only reason the second A bomb was dropped on Japan, was to give a message to uncle Joe that the USA had more than one. The East could have been retaken with the help of a re-armed Wehrmacht, under US command. Indeed plans for this eventuality were drawn up in '45, but never implemented, shame.

The cast of 60 minutes are: Morley Safer, 74 – b. Nov 8th, 1931 (Toronto, Canada) Ed Bradley, 64 – b. Jun 22, 1941 (Philadelphia, PA) Mike Wallace, 87 – b. Mar 9, 1918 (Brookline, MA) Lesley Stahl, 64 – b. Dec 16, 1941 (Lynn, MA) Andy Rooney, 87 – b. Jan 14, 1919 (Albany, NY) 60 minutes Andy Rooney, he looks like a good bet, any relation to Mickey?

True, although they might replace him with someone who has a spine. In all fairness though, right now I'm thinking it could be worse. I mean, he's (relatively) young, so he's not set in stone in all his beliefs and ways. Also, if he stood up to America on Hans Island, maybe he'll be willing to do so on softwood lumber? It remains to be seen I guess. The big Canadian political issue is softwood lumber? And people say Canada is dull.

About as subtle as Glasgow kiss.

Too right, that missing apostrophe is deeply offensive.

I have no idea who the lady is, but they both seem transfixed by that pot.

"He raised his eyebrows and looked shocked when the judge turned down his lawyer's request to release him." I loved that bit, serves the little tit right. Maybe now some kind of reality will force its way into his drug addled brain.

He certainly is, an interesting set of pictures, thanks for posting them.

Yes indeed this is a very old piece of nonsense as this Guardian article shows. Still very funny mind.

Labour life peer Lord Mishcon has died aged 90. He was also Princess Diana's former lawyer.

Robin's Nest was ground breaking TV, cut and pasted from a nostalgia site; "All the same, by making it clear that Robin and Vicky were unwed yet living and indeed sleeping together, they had scored a first, the 'common-law marriage' situation having never been depicted before in a British sitcom. Special permission had to be sought from the Independent Broadcasting Authority before the writers were given the go-ahead" Dickie O' was a sitcom pioneer, a rebel out on the edge. Defying the social norms.

Speaking of interesting obits, here's one on James Fitzgerald, who pioneered the military's use of dolphins. "To this day, Mr. Fitzgerald's work and the military's subsequent use of dolphins, whales and sea lions remain controversial and, for the most part, cloaked in secrecy. The Washington Post reported in 2003 -- long after Mr. Fitzgerald had retired -- that the Navy was using combat-trained dolphins in the war with Iraq. Scouting enemy waters in search of mines, the dolphin mission reportedly turned up six enemy mines in its first 36 hours in the water."

Doesn't the term sweetie used for a female? Well let's see, 5 smiley faces in one post does seem a bit feminin.. It's very popular with certain minority groups,or so I hear. Maybe scsibear is coming out as a Lib Dem. -
Jack Palance has certainly had an interesting life, his original name was Vladimir Palahniuk. His face looks the way it does because he was a B-24 bomber pilot in WWII. The plane crashed and he was extensively burned and underwent reconstructive surgery. One tough old bastard I'd say.
