I wonder if anyone we know may have had them in his other death list?
-
Okay, I've done some moderation things. I've merged the extra near miss messages by DLB into the near miss thread. I deleted DLB's poll, because it only had one option and the poll topic of how many are going to cark it this year is already pinned. And I've done a fair bit of tidying up after DLB, which took a while and I've probably missed things, so let me make this clear, Death list boy... Please don't start a new thread to tell us someone-or-other has died and is not in the 2005 DL list. Post a new message in the NEAR MISSES thread. Please don't start a new thread specifically to suggest someone for the 2006 list. Post a new message in the IDEAS AND POSSIBLES thread. It seems like you have rubbed a few people up the wrong way since you arrived on the scene, so why not try to follow DL etiquette and play nice? Same goes for everyone else too, why not chill for a while and see how DLB goes?

The only good sin, is a dead good sin?

But who would announce his death? If it was suicide, he could leave us a little note.

By my reckoning 3 tons in the UK would be 6,720 lbs in the US. But I must confess to being not particularly widely-travelled, so I can't support my claim with the benefit of any actual personal experience. My knowledge of both physics and zoology is also pretty limited. Okay, okay. Very fat rhinos and incorrect conversion factors apart, my point being that people from the US still use lbs when it gets to the thousands instead of changing units like they do for other stuff (inches/feet/yards/miles). Only when things get really, really huge, do they switch to tons--like when describing aircraft carriers or John Candy or something.

Nup. 'Cos I, for one, can never remember how many pounds there are in a stone. And dividing by 14 is a nightmare. Much easier to multiply. Weighing someone in pounds is meaningless to me ! But I do know there are 2.2 lbs to the kilogram. It's the same thing as weights get bigger too... A Rhino would tips the scales at 3,000 lbs in the USA and 3 tons in the UK. I note that the Yanks dispense with this "let's just use one unit for everything" approach when talking about length (or height). Someone who's 6'2", is the same on both sides of the Atlantic, not 74" tall. (And at Subway you can order a Foot-long, but asking for a 12-incher would just get sN-words all around)

Parkly? What? Didn't you ever splay with parklers when you were a kid?
-
Is that anything like budgie jumping?

Nice neck of the woods, Noosa. (A bit of gallows humour there)

I think monoglot is the word you were looking for. Although to be fair, a decent Scottish brogue probably counts for something.

Of course, this is where experienced DL'ers would expect me to point out that it's winter here in southern climes. So I won't.... But it is. (damn)

He's not dead yet, just Fahding away. Boom tisch.

I thought the sky was black with scattered parkly bits. It's only blue when that pesky nuclear furnace swings by overhead.

You weren't helping out as an intern at Bundaberg hospital were you?

I'm not sure that's such a good idea DWB. I'm not sure how long they live for, but I'm pretty sure that guineapigs, rich or poor, don't last long. And besides, only the very, very richest guineapigs would be able to afford a hutch with internet access, so how would Death Watch Guineapig be able access DL then?

How would you know which famous celebrities we've all heard of? There would be load of USAn "celebs" I've never heard of, but you may have, and vice-versa.

Pretty big news in lots of countries around south east asia. Just do a google on Shapelle Corby and you should get the picture. Also gaol is pronounced "jale," not gay-ole. And is the correct spelling of the word in non-north-American-English-speaking parts of the world. Which got me wondering, why is phonetic not spelled "fonetik?"

Too late I beat y'all to it in the near misses thread. And he definitely passes the famousness test in Australia. There's a big controversy here at the moment with Derryn Hinch (aka the Human Headline) claiming he died of GK died of AIDS-related pneumonia. All the other radio shock-jocks are calling for Derryn's resignation over it.
