These are the ones who give astrology a bad name. Is there anyone out there who has made a deep study of astrology? Fascinating subject*, isn't it? Fodder for the grey cells. "Long experience has taught me this about the status of mankind with regard to matters requiring thought: the less people know and understand about them, the more positively they attempt to argue concerning them, while on the other hand to know and understand a multitude of things renders men cautious in passing judgement upon anything new. " "Mathematics is the language with which God has written the Universe" Edit: Otherwise reported as " The laws of nature are written in the language of mathematics." I prefer this version. Galileo * Just don't start "believing" in it!! Don't get me going about Astrology. The second biggest load of crap after religion. I'm amazed at the guff some people believe in on faith.

Sheesh, there's a turn up for the books. I was only thinking about him a couple of days ago.

Things to do while waiting for Death ... 2005

Funniest thing I've seen in a while. (How sad is that?) Fart submissions -
That is a generalisation that is rather hurtful some of us who are not yet dead! As a musician, I would like to give Mr H the opportunity to re-consider. Were it not for the fact that I have to hurry off to work (in a school, where my pupils would not be helped by the above remark) I would have plenty more to say. Come on Mr H......... Okay, maybe I overstated a little. Salesmen, clowns, Popes and other religious figureheads are at the foot of the ladder in my book. But I do stand by the comment that there's nothing special about musicians in general. The way some people idolise them, elevating them to almost demigod, status is apalling.

There you are being judgmental again. They are all honorable professions. Just because one is not a musician it does not make him or her a less valuable member of society. I'd put musicians at the bottom end of life's valuable members to be honest. Sure they're good at what they do (writing fancy little ditties and the like) but that puts them at about the same level of usefulness as poets in my book. Not the kind of people you'd want to be stranded on an island with and have to depend on. Give me a butcher any day of the week. Jimmy Griffin was obviously very good at what he did, but that hardly makes him any more laudible than your average Joe. In Cockney rhyming slang (something he'd have appreciated being a muso) he's brown bread--which for you blinkered USAns--means dead. There's nothing sinister about the term. Get over it.

Good. I'll look forward to hearing the drone of Messerschmitts over the channel soon. Strikes me as being a bit silly bombing your in-bred German cousins though.

Read: "Imaginary deity that I believe in despite any experimental evidence, don't do anything nasty (not that you could, because that would leave evidence that you do exist, so please don't do that whatever you do!) to the people that know you don't exist. Very nice circular argument Mr(s)/Ms Believer.

Definitely a Yank. Probably Southern States, Texasish. Not country though, you're a city-person, so hazarding a guess I'd say you'd be from Houston, TX. Does the fact that it says in my profile that I'm from Houston give it away? As for the accent, completely wrong, Israeli accent, born in Germany, lived in Israel, moved to Texas a little over a year ago. D'oh, didn't even think to look in there

So my 'little man' is a foot long? Pinfoot
-
That all depends on how well they pickle him, because he's not going to last that long otherwise.

With an Australian accent (which used to be a North Wales accent -- not like one of those "there you goa, there's loveleee, iznet?" South Wales ponces.) And I think you'll find HCW is a a little too Scottish-sounding to be a Welshman.

OMJ, I can confirm your teutonic RADAR is spot on with that one.

Something demonstrated quite clearly by Mr Simpson and his lawyer. It always struck me as weird that he protested his innocence, but since being released, neither he nor the police have bothered looking for any other suspects.

Leave that Manilowne

Probably waiting for his call up into the witness box at Mr Jackson's trial.

Mod[erator]s can move/merge/edit/delete topics, postings etc, to keep the forums neat and tidy. There are a few other bells and whistles but that's basically it. Admins run this joint and have a lot more clout. Not sure what they can or can't do, but It's more than mods that's for sure.
-
I don't see what the fuss is all about it was just one little 'armless joke.
-
Brilliant!!!! I didn't know someone had the power to do that!!! The mods have the power and wield it justly. The admins have even more power, but succumbed to the dark side a long time time ago. So watch out (and don't use the report button whatever you do).

Yes it is. According to dictionary.com... Cult: A system or community of religious worship and ritual. The formal means of expressing religious reverence; religious ceremony and ritual.

blah, blah, blah. Why am I not surprised you miss my point entirely? I am not saying religious people are LAZY, I'm saying that they are taking the easier road; The one where they don't have to make the decisions. They live by deferring judgements to a higher power, be that God, the Bible, Priests, elders, whatever. Everything is orderly and and ordered for them. Good is this, evil is that. Pray for these poor wretches, put money in this pot. Say this and do that. And if you don't keep to the rules, well that's okay as long as you admit it and say you're sorry then that's okay then. Get a grip. It sounds like living in a kindergarten to me. Let me restate my assertion so even you can understand... I believe that people who put religion above all else are foolish, naive and childlike in their desire for someone to tell them what to do and how to do it, and they expect a nice big pat on the head for a job well done. Anyone else that plays outside their "rules" is naughty and deserves to be punished. That is what religion is.

I couldn't disagree more. I think that Religious types, Christians included, take the easy path in life, not the hard path. It is far, far easier for them to throw up their hands and trust that God will do His will instead of thinking for themselves and sorting it out on their own. With that kind of attitude, failure is the work of the devil (or God moving in mysterious ways, take your pick) and success is God's will prevailing or the wonderful power of prayer. Life is cruel sometimes, life is hard sometimes, and other times it's damn good. God and the Devil have nothing to do with it. It's just the way life is. To me religious people aren't willing to take on the responsibilities that come with being an adult on their own. They need boundaries, rules, guidelines to live within like children. I think being an adult with all the scary responsibilities that it entails is too much for some people, and they need the crutch of an all-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful diety that will ultimately reward them for being good little boys and girls. I have seen it time and time again, where religious people's world-models are cast in black and white, good or evil, us and them--just like a child's view of the world. I'd absolutely love it if things were that easy. Unfortunately they're not. I don't think it's any accident that religous nomenclature makes extensive use of "Father," "Mother," "Brother," "Sister," etc. to link itself with strongly bonded emotions from childhood. Grow up. Take responsibility for your own life. Be an adult, not some clingy child that needs a comforter. Take a walk down the hard path using your own two feet.

This is DeathList a site where you can suggest who you think is likely to die fairly soon. We're talking about Bob Dylan in this thread. Some people think he's going to die sooner rather than later. Some people don't agree; myself included. Well spotted. Yes he is. Yes he does. If he didn't, he wouldn't warrant being discussed here. Yes I would. I don't know if that was meant to be Geese or Jeez, either way it's wrong. That's exactly why we're talking about him. If he was a two-bit nobody then he'd hardly rate a mention, would he? Bob Smith from next door might be on his last legs, but if no-one's heard of him, there's no point in posting it here.

The police would be round first thing in the morning to take a statement. They'll take you down the station, lose your papers and lock you up for the day just in case. After all, you've got to be a bit shifty; you still don't have an avatar. In the cells, you'll meet a big hairy woman that goes by the name of Eileen, who is also there because she repeatedly presses the "Report" button. She'll wear your defences down through carefully crafted circular arguments about God, loving thy neighbour and peace on Earth, and you'll end up falling for her, running off to a nunnery when you're released, to be married by Mother Superior and live happily ever after. So, go on, press the button. You know Eileen wants you to.
