Richard Burns - Ex World Rally Champ

On the subject of rather unfortunate names, I once had the dubious pleasure of working with two Indian chaps called Aneil Bashir and Kishur Dongre.

    Edmund Hillary

Yeah, but is he over the hill?

    Margaret Thatcher

So what does he do if they catch you three times?

    Shaun of the Dead

It was a big penal colony [fnarr, fnarr]

    Is Mr T Dead?

Thank you "Anonymous" for your superbly well thought out and expertly constructed lambast of the contributors to this thread. I'm sure we'll all be better people, and live fuller, richer lives because of it. You may be surprised to learn that there is indeed a separate thread for eloquent, life-changing prose such as your own. As you said... I was saddened to learn from you that he really is shaky on his pins and clearly showing the first signs of Parkinson's by rocking so much. Such a shame that. He has warmed the hearts of many of the years with his comedic portrayal of anger-gone-awry. Such a talented actor that he is, he will surely be missed when he does degenerate completely. Until that time though, I hope he has many more years of gentle, peaceful rocking back and forth. I say "Rock on Mr T!" [Although I think he's safe from the list for 2005 at least ]

    The last of the ANZACs

Marcel Caux, one of the last remaining ANZACs, died yesterday aged 105. See the Courier Mail news story.

    They are board...

Incidentally, using one of their links; Wordcount. "Weird" is the 6713th most used word in the enlish language. Just in case you were wondering.

    They are board...

[partial] Definition... Weird n ...Of or relating to fate or the Fates. Fate; destiny. Sounds like deathlist to me.
  9. Oh, that old guy. I was wondering who he was, listening to my AM radio here in Australia. [And there was me thinking the world revolved around the sun. I must have been mistaken. It obviously revolves the USA.]

    Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists

I would have thought "Eric the Eel" of Sydney Olympics fame would have been in with a chance, but he never made it to Athens because of a bureaucratic bungle Damn shame that.

    Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists

Sort of off topic, but timely I suppose. In 1912 Portuguese marathon runner Francisco Lazaro Marathon collapsed during his Olympic event and died the next day. In 1960 Danish cyclist Knut Jensen fell off his bike, and later died in hospital (full to the gunnels with amphetamines apparently.) Anyone got any thoughts on who's most likely to give up the ghost at the games?

    Courtney Love

I think it means; "You have three seconds to stop stalking me before I call airport security." ...or, being completely up-to-date and groovy, as Ms Love obviously is, she's giving DL the heads-up: "Put me at number 3 on the 2005 list," she channels. Somewhat different to her usual insistence that she be number one, signalled with her middle finger.

    Watts up Doc?

I laughed so much I almost paradiddled myself.

    Watts up Doc?

...ah, what's known as a drum roll, no doubt.
  16. I think he should thumb his nose at the arsenic amphibian avatar and go for laptop loon's. I never could work out what it was.

    London Chainsaw Massacre?

Look out Scotland, here she comes... Well done Judge! Now that the precedent has been set in law in England and Wales, is this is a ruling that would stick with annoying TV "celebs"?

    The last of the ANZACs

oops... ...should have been "the rest of the pommie press obits"
  19. honez

    The last of the ANZACs

Well, Ted Smout, the last one to hang up his army boots, got a good write up in the UK's Daily Telegraph. Not sure if he made the pommie press obituaries though.

    Mike Tyson

To me, someone who refers to themselves in the third person, plans to dine out that evening on a hearty meal of topsoil, and is willing to wager twenty bucks that they're about to end it all, is only going one place... And that's the funny farm, not the cemetery. Unless--heaven forbid--that wasn't the real, heavily concussed, loam-munching Mike Tyson claiming those things. D'ya think?

    Estelle Getty

Thanks for clearing that up Unregistered. I certainly don't feel so stupit now I have a grip.
  22. Any ETA on a decision on the name of The Game? If not, will a shortlist be posted in poll format so we can vote on 'em? (I think The Ashes is a dead set cert)

    Rosemary Kennedy

A rich politician's kid with half a brain? Now there's a turn up for the books. It's true about the Kennedy's being the closest thing the septics have to royalty then.

    Ian Paisley

If he's a clone, then shouldn't he be Ian Paisley 2.0 instead of Jnr?

    Deborah Kerr

Sounds like a potential for 2005 if she can hold on for that long. Then she can be as frail as she likes and join those 'good spirits' on the other side.
