Glyn Leach, highly respected editor of Boxing Monthly has passed away at the age of 52. Dario Franchitti has had a very poor season, it nearly ended the same way as his friends Wheldon & Moore today. Lucky enough it seems he's got (relatively) minor back injuries plus a small ankle fracture. Best news is that the 13 fans have been reported to be only suffering from superficial injuries, and having seen the fence and a wheel go flying into the grandstand that's a minor miracle. Yet another example of cheese-grater fences doing the basics of the job of keeping the car out of the crowd, but surely there's got to be something better. Dead Storm Rising.

Well the most recent deaths I can think of in the top level classes have been when the rider fell and was wiped out by a closely following rider - this crash today has some "trackside crowd video" which show in pretty clear detail what happened to the unfortunate Antonelli. Sadly if a guy falls in the opening laps of a race he does have a chance of being right in the path of disaster. I can't really think how much they could improve the safety in that regard. It does seem like the sport is going through a bad spell though of these kind of incidents. In fact it's been a bad couple of months for motor sport fatalities it appears.

I'd not shed any tears if it was any of the NY Jets getting blown away, but fortunately it's so easy to slap them down we can probably rely on a Dallas player going postal on a Redskin/Giant. Plenty of NFL related fighting the law since the super bowl, 28 players have been arrested for various crimes since Feb 3rd. Given the Jovan Belcher murder/suicide, the Cowboys DUI car death and now this, being friends/connected to a NFL player seems to be becoming a high risk strategy.
