Being reported that Pierce Brosnan's adopted daughter Charlotte has died of cancer at 42. She was the daughter of his wife Cassandra Harris (who also died of cancer in her 40s in 1991) and her former husband Dermot, who himself was the brother of Richard Harris and also died young. Lots of tragedy there -
In fairness, in F1 it was self-inflicted. At Le Mans it was due to an aerodynamic flaw with the car - a third accident befell one of the other cars during the race itself
-
On the subject of Le Mans, Mark Webber announced yesterday that he's quitting F1 to go and race for Porsche in endurance racing. It's worth bearing in mind that last time he attempted Le Mans, his car was withdrawn before the race after he ended up two separate back-flips in practice

Missoni plane found - it's at the bottom of the sea off Los Roques Islands

I take it the Reuters obit is acceptable, but if not, there's a Yahoo one here (which I think has recently been deemed OK)

So yeah - hi contenders

I shouldn't be happy, but I'm really in DDP contention now

Sad news. Pontypridd's just down the road from me when I'm back home. Groggs are a big deal in the Valleys amongst a certain generation. My grandfather's got a few

Here's a shock, and a big one at that - James Gandolfini Some reports saying it was a sudden stroke, others saying heart attack. Only 51
-
Actually dead this time
-
Not sure if we have a thread for dancers, but former Royal Ballet performer David Wall has died at 67 - another brick in the Wall Suppose it was a shame it was of cancer and not of a heart attack so no one could use the "Wall Collapse" or "Wall Falls Down" line

Is this including squad players? Okafor was also in the Nigeria squad in 1994

Here's the UK obit - first points for my theme team

Peter Hill-Wood, long-time chairman of Arsenal, has resigned due to ill health. He had a had a heart attack last year - supporting Arsenal does that to you

Good air crash-related conspiracy theory here - South African Airways Flight 295, where a Boeing 747 carrying passengers and freight caught fire over the Indian Ocean while flying between Taipei and Johannesburg. Air crash investigators were never able to determine the cause of such a colossal fire - there are theories that it was caused by some kind of weaponry that the South African government was smuggling into the country to get around an embargo, which also would explain why the pilot didn't try and land the plane when he discovered there was a fire There was a good episode of Air Crash Investigation on it

Without wanting to be that guy, it's worth bearing in mind that I may be way down now but I also have many of those picks you're talking about at the top - Mandela, Jardine, Metsu, Nolan, Buell and van der Westhuizen, plus Stephen Lewis and Liz Dawn who have supposedly been very ill for a while. 58 points beyond OoO but I have a lot of points left on the board. If the cards all fall my way, I could make a big surge in the second half, though I should imagine it'd be difficult to win from here All hinges on Borgonovo, though - I think he'll get the obit if he goes but he's well enough to write an article for FIFA so who knows? He's done well to last this long with ALS. In hindsight it might have been too much of a gamble to give him the joker Also I remember this time last year Waddell was a write-off for me, supposedly getting better, and yet he was dead by August. We're not even halfway through the year
-
Bernie, to be contrarian
-
Any news on Borgonovo's health? I see he wrote this praise of AC Milan coach Max Allegri last week so maybe not at death's door...
-
Sad news, but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't automatically think of DDP. I feel like I'm in a good position now. Was way down in 69th but with Cecil going, and Mandela and Nolan on the brink, I could yet make a run for the top 10. Just need to know what's going on with my joker

Former Buffalo Bills QB Jim Kelly diagnosed with cancer of the upper jaw. Sounds like the prognosis is good, though
