  1. Although not regarded as his best film I would suggest that you fast forward through all the homoerotic bits of TROY to get to the bit where King Priam (O' Toole) comes to Achillies' (Brad Pitt) tent to request the return of his son's body. Peter O' Toole gives an impassioned performance of genuine grief whereas Pitt is aiming for impassive but the result looks more like balsa.

Proof that they don't make em like that any more.

  2. Hi I am going to replace Ronnie Biggs with the former MP John Freeman.

I am also going to play a sub as I will be out of circulation over Christmas and you might need another replacement to make sure that I have a full team for the starting tape. That someone is snooker player Ali Carter.

  4. Clinton sounded like shit during the mandela interviews..... going downhill rapidly.

Yeah, well I guess running that chain of greeting card retailers into the ground, would not of helped one bit!!

The introduction of the "I'm so sorry I ruined your dress" range was probably a mistake.

  5. I see that Charles will represent the Queen at Nelson Mandela's funeral.

He propbably wanted to get some practice in before the two big ones.

Yeah but doesn't the fact that the Queen doesn't want to fly to SA show maybe she isn't as robust as we all thought? I'm surprised such a flurry of speculation hasn't already appeared in this thread.

    No No....

As a general rule the Queen does not do funerals. If she started going to foreign dignitaries funerals there would be a careful analysis of each decision to see if there was a snub. She didn't even go to Pope John Paul II funeral and sent Charles to get photomugged by Robert Mugabe.

Queen not a contender for 2014.

Oh, right. Yeah. I would have thought it was more a case of she doesn't go to foreign funerals in case someone there is armed with a snub....... nosed revolver.

Especially in some place like South Africa (no racism/post-colonial snobbery intended)

    Will King Wilhelm be going?

I'm afraid you've lost me there. Really lost me. Worse than an Alzheimer's patient loses grip of the plot of The Wire.

The King of The Netherlands who were also a colonial power in South Africa. No Wire like plots here, its much more Miami Vice (Good looking and utterly pointless)

  8. Barry Jackson who played the part of Drax in the Dr Who story Armageddon Factor opposite Tom Baker has died at 75. He was best known as the pathologist Dr Bullard in Midsomer Murders http://www.itv.com/n...y-jackson-dies/

He was also in an episode of Blakes' 7. I thought I remembered seeing it, but after checking, I realise I hadn't. I've never seen past the first few episodes so I must have remembered his face from somewhere else. Seems to have been in a lot of stuff.

He played Kendall in Series 1 Epsiode 7: Misson to Destiny. This is not a good example of B7 as it is an excuse for a pretty poor whodunnit with Avon playing at Hercule Poirot and an sub Scooby Doo clue written in the murder victim's blood. However said victim is played by deathlist potential Brian Capron.

Sorry about this when I couldn't find which episode he was in on Wikipedia I had to resort to looking it up in a book. Thank you Mr Attwood.

  9.

I do not think that normal programming would be affected for anyone but a world statesman or a member of the royal family.

Pretty sure there would be interruptions if McCartney went. Possibly even Dylan

McCartney yes, Elton John yes, David Bowie or Mick Jagger yes, but whilst Dylan would merit lead news article I don't think there would be extended bulletins and a hastily resheduled doc immediately after the 10pm news. (In the UK that is).

  10. Oi Biblio...might be time to survey the sub's bench!

Dora Bryan strips off her tracksuit and heads for the field of play.

Yeah, but she thinks she's going to primary school! Nice one.

I am running out of names my first team only had 15 names on it then I had to replace Godfrey and now Nelson. If anyone else goes before the starting gun I will be scraping the barrel.

  11. looks like tonights Question Time has been cancelled.the first of many tv casualties probably...

    #

    OH NO! How awful!

Christ. If only we could get Mandela to die just before 10PM British time every Thursday night for the rest of all time, he truly would be worthy of the word saint.

That is the first time i remember them taking off normal programming since michael jackson died . I wonder what other deaths would command this ? Castro ? ex pm ? A list celeb dying before their time? When does a death become big enough to take off normal the programming ?

I do not think that normal programming would be affected for anyone but a world statesman or a member of the royal family. The decision to cancel question time was probably a matter of timing as he went during the evening. There is a difference between scheduling in a tribute programme in place of something that could be shown later and having a rolling news programme continue in place of a current affairs discussion programme.

I remeber there being changes to the schedule when Laurence Olivier and Peggy Ashcroft died.

Most celebrity deaths don't even make the lead item on the news bulletins.

  12. Jean Kent One of the biggest film stars in the UK in the 40s and 50s died age 92 after a fall in her home.

I heard this on Radio 4 and couldn't place her but when I read her obituary I found out that she appeared in the awesome Gainsborough pictures film The Wicked Lady with James Mason and Margaret Lockwood which I recommend everyone to go and watch but not the remake.

  13. I have been through the 2013 list and have identified 16 people who I think should not be included next year to get down the the 50% change level. However this was surprisingly hard once I got past about 8 names.

    Chapman Pincher

    Hosni Mubarak

    Ian Paisley

    Harper Lee

    Bob Dole

    Al Molinaro

    Jake Lamotta

    Doris Day

    Henry Kissinger

    Pete Seeger

    Nicholas Parsons

    Elaine Stritch

    James Garner

    Peter O' Toole

    Ian Brady

I am not convinced that the DOE will DIE next year but I cannot advocate removing him from the list because it would be such a biggy.
