A brief reading of Sendak's various obituaries revealed that Else Holmelund Minarik, the Danish-born author of the Little Bear series, which Sendak illustrated, is still around at the age of 91.
Can't find any health on her, but she's been retired since 1989 and might be a good idea for the DeathList next year.
Scratch that, she's dead.
And with her, Sobol, and Sendak dead any motivation for me making a Children's Book author theme team dies too.
I have been thinking about writers too a couple of suggestions that might perk up your interest again
Jan Pienkowski b.1936 who provided the distinctive illustrations for Helen Nicol's (b.1937) Meg & Mog books & Alan Ahlberg b.1938
I'm sure I could find hundreds of elderly children's book authors, but if I were to make a theme team for them I would want it to be a list of authors I have heard of before, of series I read when I was younger.
Michael Bond (b. 1926), creator of Paddington Bear. Thats a start
Bond, Beverly Cleary, Richard Adams, and Eric Carle were all ideas I wrote down. I could stretch the definition a bit to include Sir Terry Pratchett and Harper Lee.
It's a moot point though, I have other theme teams put together that were much easier to make and more entertaining.
I have an Authors theme team drafted out but Ray Bradbury put a hole in its bows but it is still afloat.
I kept some names back!!

Was just about to come and report this. Didn't know she'd been gone for a week! That can't be good...
She had been found safe and unwell in Arizona.
Do I hear the chisels carving her name into the 2013 tablets?

. But all that money and his 4 kids could make him reconsider.
Like it kept Paula Yates going!!!
Well she died of a heroin overdose , though taking heroin is a kind of suicide in many ways.
And your point is?
she didn't commit suicide .
No she didn't.
However, the care of her four daughters did not prevent her from continuing with her precarious lifestyle which eventually claimed her life.

For your consideration veteren theatre actor Richard Pasco, CBE (b.1926) who is married to Barbara Leigh-Hunt (b.1935). Barbara is best known for her performance as Lady Catherine de Burgh in the BBC adaptation of Pride & Prejudice which was made in 1995 and I was surprised to find she was still alive.
I was watching said adaptation last night at the behest of my wife and daughter and I wondered about some of the older members of the cast particularly Benjamin Whitrow (Mr Bennett) b.1937 and Christopher Benjamin (Sir William Lucas) b.1934 both still with us and both look like they have enjoyed fine food and wine.

Is this his CV for his application to the LAPD?

He was on my data base but not in the 400 I had for competition but to be off the radar for eight years.....

Jan Pienkowski b.1936 who provided the distinctive illustrations for Helen Nicols Meg & Mog books & Alan Ahlberg b.1938
Alternatively you could put Sarah Ferguson and Prince Charles on your team of Children's authors
Neither is particularly old, or in poor health as far as I'm aware
Oh you are playing to win. I was just trying to be controversial. Think of all those diseases that you might contract from sucking dirty toes!

2 old soap actresses worth keeping an eye on;
Elizabeth Kelly (Nellie Ellis, EastEnders) b. 1921
Sheila Mercier (Annie Sugden, Emmerdale) b. 1919
Sheila Mercier is the older sister of actor and charity campaigner Brian Rix (b.1924) who is married to Elspet Gray (b.1929) who played Blackadder's Mum.
Hmmm interesting, have there ever been siblings or married couples appeared together on the DL? Know we've had father and son in the past.
Staying with soap actors, a slightly tenuous link perhaps but Ron Moody (b. 1924) did a guest spot on EE not too long ago...
"But he thought he better think it out again"

Glen Campbell might be worth a bash
He was diagnosed with alzheimer's about a year ago. He's winding up his farewell tour. He's got a few more years left in him.
Cancelled tour dates - time for a reconsideration?

2012, 2013 or 2014?

Not forgetting Edna Dore b.1921 - she played Mike Reid's mum and was also in the Doctor Who episode Fear Her.
I had thought Sheila Mercier was already dead - Good suggestion JR976evil

i bet notaguest is laughing his head off right now.last year was a catastrophic and potentially fatal year for deathlist, yet you are close to being worse than last year by a huge margin! There were 4 hits by march 26 last year and here we are on march 8 and you only have one! have you people ever considered just giving up this shit? Putting someone on your list seems to guarantee them immortality lets face it! LMAO
OK so last year wasn't brilliant but I run a game which had 365 names to pick from and I only got 13 hits 13/365 is much worse than 6/50 but all my players came back and more!

OK Here is a solution from someone who knows nothing about football and just wants to be controversial.
Celtic are given a place in the English/Welsh Championship and each season the winner of the reconstituted SPL goes in to the Conference play-offs for a spot in League 2.
Unless of course Scotland vote for independence in 2014.

These puns are dreadful and he had probably herb them all before

Derek Fowlds is looking dreadful these days. He hasn't worked since 2009 and his co-stars Eddington and Hawthorne from Yes Minister passed away in 1995 and 2001 respectively.
There doesn't seem to be any articles on his health or why he has stopped working but any fan of classic BBC comedy will be saddened to see how ill he is looking of late. I hate to say it as I am a fan but he does look like a shoe in for 2013.
As he was also a pal of Basil Brush, do you think he is more or less likely to go than Rodney Bewes who is almost unrecognisable.

After much punditry regarding the chances of Sylvester's mother Jackie, Sage has nipped in and stolen the thunder.

I think they should have used commas here. Either that, or she's a cannibal.
Or from the Philippines (or both)

Andy Hamilton finally got his moment on Final Word, Radio Four today, they didn't spend much time he'd already been dead for a month!
The show is called "The Last Word" and is one of my favourite shows but it is on at really stupid times. Come on Radio 4 this could go in the comedy half hour at 6.30!
