  1. Three heart attacks, a triple bypass, a quadruple bypass and enough hardware to open a hardware store, plus a permanent PICC line and medication being infused 24x7. After the last 20 years with my mother's cardiac problems and still watching her head out to work as a college professor every day at the age of 72, you'll all have to forgive me if I just don't take this Berlusconi crap seriously.

And you are built of the same stuff CA....

  2.

The intervention will take place on Tuesday 14th June at San Raffaele hospital in Milan. I will give you a URL to see it in streaming.

Pay per view? It's what he'd want.

    I keep thinking of the Italian version of Brucie surrounded by glamourpuss nurses;

    "Imma such a lucky Jack,

    Ever since my heart attack,

And now inna uniforms so revealing,

    Ok dollies, do your healing!"

Hang on I used a version that in the Brucie thread the other day. I presume you are recycling because it didn't get the appropriate level of appreciation the first time.

Can I claim second place for Janet waldo?

Indeed you can though I've not gone looking for a qualifying obit to seal it yet.

Having claimed second place you can't claim anything approaching a prize, mind

The kudos is enough. After everyone else had made their picks I thought they all seemed to be so much likelier than mine especially as I had her age down as two years younger than is being quoted in her obits. I picked her because I had rejected her for my Windy City team and still wanted to use the pick.

  5. Is it worth speculating on the Curse of Harry Potter yet

Richard Harris, Richard Griffiths, Alan Rickman.......

Now with the addition of Peter Schaffer maybe it is the curse of Daniel Radcliffe.......

Does that mean Kit becomes heir or does he have an older brother? I suppose the clue was in the name if he were less posh he would have been Chris Harrington. Having a tite doesn't stop you being and actor Christopher Guest is a baron and Lalla Ward is a Lady.

Heir presumptive I think - I believe Kit's dad gets the prize for now.

Yeah but isn't the son of a Baron entitled to a title? Marquis?

  7. I am hoping that when the theme team league is updated my two unique hits will get me into the top 20 hopefully knocking on the door of the top 10. The Obit for Nicholas Fisk came just too late for the last update.

  8. The service in the UK is more reliable (at least on the main lines) and there has been an investment in rolling stock and stations. However it is prohibitively expensive. I turned down a job in London because once I had paid for a season ticket I would have less money than my current job. Some commutes complain of over crowding and rural services get a rough deal. Some of the companies are pulling out or have had their franchise taken away. The infeastructure company had to be renationalsed under the last labour goverment after the whole thing went pear shaped.

Do they have every episode of Coronation Street given the propensity for wiping tapes in the 60s?

    Anyhoo; fuck a woman.

I've never met a woman I fancied but there are two I would slip a length to. Jill Dando (she's dead so let's not go there) and Jeri Ryan (she'd have to wear her seven of nine uniform).

BIB - Yes. Whilst some episodes in the 60s were wiped, sensible people abroad didn't wipe the international copies and thus all the gaps have been filled, as far as I'm aware Granada/ITV hold the originals for the 60s episodes. Episodes from the early mid 1970s (circa 1973 or something) the originals are held at the British Film Institute, although I'm not sure when that collection ends - more modern ones than that are definitely available. My understanding is ITV is digitising their archives anyway, so the issues lies more in centralisation and copyright bureaucracy than the existence of the episodes. I think certain periods, like the current Blackburn era would test the patience of saints and might need fast-forwarded or watched with long breaks betwen episodes for recuperation though. When ITV released their April Fools entire box-set DVD trailer they said it would take around 6 months of non-stop viewing, assuming a rational amount is consumed a day you'd be looking at 3-4 years if you wanted to keep your job. Sounds do-able, if they release it within a few decades for me. The other issues is whether ITV deem such a project commercial viable which at the moment they clearly don't.

Regarding the other bit, ditto but gender is less of an issue to me. But no desperation on that.

    EDIT: http://coronationstreetupdates.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/fan-review-coronation-street-archives.html

A fuller run-down on available corrie episodes my dates are out a bit, the 1969-1976 episodes are at the BFI, 1976-1992 were repeated on Granada+ back in the day, so definitely exist, and episodes beyond that certainly exist. ITV hold the 1960-1969 episodes. The BFI charge £10 per or roughly £5 an episode, which seems a little on the steep side to me. If you extrapolated that to all 9010 episodes of coronation street you'd be looking at around £36,040 for all the episodes, assuming an average of 24 minutes an episode. Assuming a flat fee of £5 an episode you'd be looking at £45,050 for the entire collection. Now, I can't speak for every fan, but that's about £45,050 out of my price range at the moment, and not really a figure I could realistically save towards for that purpose. For comparison EastEnders goes for £1.89 on the BBC Store, if they were to extend that to cover all the episodes which it currently doesn't (only goes back to 2014) - it would be £10,009.44 - if Corrie was the same price you'd be looking at £17028.90 - while these prices are still absolutely ludicrous they could appeal to people with more money than sense. For me 40p an episode, or a total of £3604 for the collection would be the most I'd be willing to pay, and even that'd have to be pay per episode as I'd never have that amount of ready cash - not for a long while anyway) - these ridiculous cost issues are probably a factor in the series not being released before you even consider logistics.

Repeated emails to ITV have resulted in being told that there is no plans to release these episodes in the near future, but a pay-per-view service may be in the works at some point for ITV in general. Basically written along the lines of "Don't be so fucking daft but never say never." To me, they're the ones being daft given the cash cow this would inevitably be. The only downside would be the likely hit that current Corrie would take in the ratings battles.

EDIT2: I've just realised how incredibly sad this post looks, and my knowledge of this particular subject actually is getmecoat.gif. Although then again some of you are trainspotters...

I am glad they managed to get the international copies back. If only the same were true for Doctor Who.

BBC have released every episode of DW they have. All were available onn VHS and they are working through re-release on DVD although they must be close to the end as the mosr recent release was the incomplete story. The Underwater Menace. However, the numbers are more manageable there were just over 600 episodes of the classic series and around 130 of the new series.

I give him 6 months to a year.He is clearly a. very frail old man now who is housebound.A case of pneumonia over the winter could probably finish him off .

It has been his habit to winter in South America. If he stays at home again then I think he could be an excellent pick for next year.

If he wintered in South America and flew back every week to present Strictly it's no wonder he's near fucked now!

I think he left for warmer climes around Christmas once his Strictly duties had been discharged but having said that until last year Len Goodman was judging both Strictly and Dancing with the Stars often in the same week.

  12. In response to RA. ( I am not going to quote the whole post)

I am also not going to get into a debate. I am firmly on the remain side believing Europe is better with Britain in it and we will be bigger in the world as part of Europe. But social media is not going to help because either you end up in a massive circle jerk of people who think the same as you and convince yourself that you are home and dry because no one is disagreeing with you (this messed up the lefts head at the General Election) or you end up in a slanging match with someone who you are never going to convince to change their mind, whilst all the undecideds avoid the forums like the plauge because they are full of rabid haters.

However I am interested in the fallout. Cameron has had a dire campaign right from the word go, to be fair Osbourne has done better, May has kept her head down (shrewdly?) and Jeremy Corbyn has been a bit of a no show.

The Tory in fighting means that business as usual after the referendum is not possible. Andrew Bridgen has already indicated that even if remain win Cameron will face a challenge and if Leave win there is no way Cameron can stay on as PM. The presumption will be that Boris will become PM under such circumstances but where then is the left of the Tory party, people like Ken Clarke and Dominic Grieve do they sit on their hands until 2020 or do they vote with their feet which could easily wipe out the slender Tory majority.

Are Chinese simplified and traditional different languages?

I don't think they're languages per se but 'alphabets' for want of a better word. You can write down a word or phrase using both 'alphabets' and they're still pronounced and mean the same.

There are variations. Mandarin and Cantonese are essentially different languages developed from the same source.

  15. So it was a minor ailment, then a minor op, then a fall, then admitting it had been an aneurysm, now there was a heart op invovled. Next up on bingo is "a minor form of cancer" and "only visiting the hospice for minor treatment".

    Is that higher or lower?

On a similar thought when he is in hospital does he, every time the nurses enter his room say "Here they are they're so appealing come on dollies do your healing"?

    Thought not.....

    Those are her emoticons, right?

Not totally sure if they make me feel more or less sympathetic in this horrible situation

This is not the sort of pick I like but she is a Doctor and she is very aware of what is happening to her. Does that make it easier or harder?

I think this is her way of dealing with it.

Respect to her and it is very sad.

  17. Seen as absolutely nothing is happening here, anyone else think this could go over the year?

Yes it could but it could equally be gone in a month. Those Lords look pretty topplesome to me. I think that is part of the tension. It might even outlive by-election bingo.

  18. I think the DL committee should get some kudos for this hit. There was a lot of pressure for Ali to be included for the past couple of years and they bring him back just in time for the main event. Skills or Luck?

  19. If cher survives this year, she needs to be on the deathlist next year. Her health is getting much worse now, and even she expects this year's birthday as her last birthday. She's one we need to watch right now.
