  1. I've got a few picks who've not been mentioned here, and who weren't picked for this year's list. All are guaranteed to receive a QO. After my success with Dave from Eggheads I've decided to keep quiet about other suitable picks. One is someone who I believe to be in the advance stages of dementia, due to comments made on another message board a few years ago by someone who witnessed an incident involving this person. They've been absent from the media ever since, with any relevant interviews being with a close relative instead. Another is someone who turned up on TV in a charity commercial this year looking absolutely dreadful. I've not seen the commercial air again - perhaps it's been taken down as they've not got long left. A third is someone who was missing from a television documentary that aired this year, but which was filmed the year before. As someone significantly relevant to the subject, they really should have been there, and it's highly unlikely that the documentary maker forgot about them. Of course they may have been absent for other reasons, but it's somewhat suspicious. I also have another source for information on possible picks. There's a thread on a certain website dedicated individuals in a particular field who were seriously ill. Unfortunately the main contributor to that thread has himself died, and although the thread is still going it's only updated very infrequently, with the last update about three months ago, but I still keep monitoring it in case anybody significant turns up.

    Disc Jockeys

After a bit more digging, it seems he was one of the guest DJs on Radio One Club, a precursor to the Radio One Roadshow. It broadcast from a different location each day using one of Radio One's own presenters and a local club DJ. So not a real Radio One DJ at all! There's a brief mention of his name here, albeit with a different spelling.

Just the two entries on BBC Genome - for the Christmas Day editions of Junior Choice of 1970 and 1971, when they visited hospitals in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Tony Wyn-Jones did the portion from Wales on both occasions.

Plus the show would have been filmed at the beginning of the year at the very latest. He may be even worse now!

I would often turn off Test Match Special when Boycott appeared for his summarising stint, as he annoyed me so much.

The banks were the ones who effectively printed money - they lent out far more than they had assets to cover.

    Political Frailty

He was not strictly the president in the usual sense. The effective head of state of Switzerland is a 7-person cross-party Federal Council, comprising of the heads of the seven Federal Departments (Finance, Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs etc.). The President is selected from one of these members for a year - but has little power beyond chairing meetings and representing Switzerland abroad.

The Ragtimers are an oddity. The single was issued on Pye which seems to indicate that they were British as releases from overseas acts appeared on the Pye International imprint instead. There's a co-composer credit on the label to Jack Fishman who seems to be an American composer who worked with British jazz pianist Roy Budd on some film soundtracks around the time of their single. My suspicions is these are a couple of interpretations of Scott Joplin numbers that happened to be in the can when the film was released, and issued to cash-in on interest on Joplin.

The information comes initially from the Music Master series of books, which listed every known record release, at least on major labels. For singles from the 1970s, this material is has been collated and made available here: http://www.7tt77.co.uk/

Update - Dygert is reported as being 'conscious and talking'. Having seen a repeat of the incident it looked serious - front wheel puncture/failure, leading to a crash over an Armco crash barrier and into a ditch.

I've a couple contacts who may know, or may know someone who does. I'll try to get into contact with them this evening. If they don't know, noted Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn should, but I'm wary of contacting him as he's busy researching the second and third volume of his extensive Beatles history.

    Beirut Explosion

Approximately 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate were in storage, according to recent news reports. That's significantly more than the amount of ammonium nitrate involved in the Texas City explosion of 1947. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_City_disaster
