So .. What Do You Watch On TV?
gcreptile replied to Banshees Scream's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I needed some escapism after what has now been three weeks of a lot of work so I started watching the Jeffrey Dahmer Story on Netflix today. It's very good, Evan Peters is very good. -
Uuhh... maybe she attended a superspreader event recently.

Perhaps they were the only ones who found the fast track lane.

Partial mobilization and nuclear threats now. I've been pretty sure from the start of this, meaning the 2022 war, not the whole crisis since 2014, that the Russian efforts to absorb Ukraine will fail, but it's going to take 2-3 years and will lead to a lot of sacrifice (the things that count as sacrifice in the civilized West). I mean I didn't know that Zelensky wouldn't flee and survive, but I was at least sure that the West would support partisan uprisings, that there would be a sort of frontline at the Dnjepr River, that slowly but surely Russia would have to retreat. Now, Russia never got as far and it's looking a little easier than I expected (typing as my now somewhat more expensive gas heating is keeping me warm). But now, we reach a new phase. The question is not whether Russia will lose (they eventually will), but how far they will go to prevent the loss. The shortcut would be to only "lose" Putin. But right now, I do feel somewhat uneasy.

Surely I must be the only Player left without an immediate winner.

On a more personal note, I did have a short moment of sadness and befuddling realization that, yes, the Queen is gone. Quite possibly the most omnipresent person in my life I've never personally met.

Just think of how many more people there are on this planet right now, more than ever before. And just how many more TVs and streams there are.

Well, well, Nicolas Schindelholz QO: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/19860064/nicolas-schindelholz-dead-cancer/ Not picked in the DDP this year though, but after the Ronnie Hellström and Piet Schrijvers non-QOs I was thinking that continental football players generally dont obit.

Random observation, Kate Williams watching the big event on CNN right now and commenting. Seems fine. -
Canadian singer/songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie casually reveals a cancer battle, which was quite serious, but the worst seems to be behind her: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/buffy-sainte-marie-come-toward-the-fire-1.6584998 Well, we'll wait until it's time for her to go up where she belongs.

Metro QO says that his son posted that it was a day before his 96th birthday: https://metro.co.uk/2022/09/16/henry-silva-dead-oceans-11-and-johnny-cool-actor-dies-aged-95-17393419/ I assume it's the common definition of birthday, i.e. not counting the day of birth itself.

Well, for once a reliable scoring. I wish we would have given more points to Lars Vogt.
-
Died after a "mower accident", developed an infection. So not even a typical age-related death.

S Club 7 member Jo O'Meara hospitalised for "unbearable (Bring it all) back pain": https://metro.co.uk/2022/09/14/s-club-7s-jo-omeara-shares-update-after-being-hospitalised-for-back-surgery-17371067/ I guess she stopped moving, but is still Alive and didn't have to Say Goodbye.

Surgery... uh huh...
-
Ah sorry, I had forgotten about that post. Objection withdrawn!
-
Definitely a monumental task though, to get it all together.... ..... I think Natty Wailer is missing? Is he scoring (not that anyone ever bothered to mention the name in this pool)?

There is a tendency in academics to "sexify" the results of your research, so that you can squeeze out some proof of your hypothesis based on flimsy evidence. This tendency disregards that the rejection of a hypothesis may be as valuable as the confirmation. To learn that something is NOT correct, does also have some value. So yeah, it could be a useful result of this competition to learn that the scoring system is, indeed, shit.

Dick Van Dyke - no, still far too early Henry Kissinger - getting weaker, but will be fighting death for each single day, I think he's going for the 100th birthday, already drooling for those "a century with Henry" interviews, but dies shortly after Angela Lansbury - are the rumours true? Still feels a little vague, and well, many 96 year old people are not in good health. Bob Barker - kind of think he's overdue Alan Greenspan - since he's not been on camera lately, I think he's going down. Kissinger is a similar case by the way - wanting to die after they're unable to play their public role Nigel Starmer-Smith - reasonably good bet, still Loretta Lynn - apparently stable, and probably too high on the list as the stroke didn't turn out to be perpetually limiting her The Carters - I agree, they'll go together, but if neither of them goes, they just keep on living? Tony Bennett - is he declining physically as fast as mentally? I haven't seen the proof yet. Dick Cheney - no particular reason for him to be on the list Harry Belafonte - still seems like a bad pick Mel Brooks - still seems like a bad pick Sir Bobby Charlton - like Nigel Starmer-Smith, a reasonable pick. I think one of those two will die this year, still. David Attenborough - yes, you don't want to miss him, but he's not a good pick, on paper Akihito - I think the committee just likes monarchs, or we have a "sunk cost fallacy" going on here Leslie Philiips - well... Sandy Gall - had a book out recently, away from TV apparently doesn't mean in ill health Desmond Morris - no idea Ted Kaczinski - good pick on the outset, we only knew in spring that he's a better pick for 2023 Jean-Marie Le Pen - doing too well James Whale - seems to have a very manageable cancer Cleo Laine - no idea Jerry Lee Lewis - annoyingly stable Jacques Delors - would usually be one of these random age-based hits for the list, could still happen Denis Law - too early Prunella Scales - her dementia doesn't seem to affect her physically, so she's basically also "only" an age based pick Burt Bacharach - apparently frail? But as long as there's no "real" illness... Stanley Baxter - no idea, but you seem to think it may be time for him to bow out Noam Chomsky - looking ghastly, but then, not much different from Kissinger. One has to wait until he's gone from public media Bill Treacher - no idea, seems a wasted pick? ..... Well that's it for now... I think we're good for about 3-4 more hits.
