Movie review of "The Cancer Conflict" - a documentary about two people with cancer, one fighting it with "official" science, the other one fighting it with alternative methods: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2022/sep/13/the-cancer-conflict-review-poignant-documentary-on-alternative-cancer-therapies It has apparently been in the making for 5 years: https://icrowdnewswire.com/2016/11/16/cancer-conflict-feature-documentary-trust-life-line/ And the scientific case, a film producer named Grant Branton, died pretty quickly: https://www.promonews.tv/news/2016/02/16/grant-branton-1962-2016/39476 Can't find anything on quick notice on the alternative case, unfamous person Surinder Paul. Branton had stage 4 colon cancer though that had spread to the bones, whereas Surinder Paul "only" had breast cancer.

    Queen Margrethe II of Denmark

I wondered why the Guardian said that she's Europe's only Queen, i.e. where in the world do we have a queen? The arab world, no? Japan, no? This wiki list doesn't have any other queen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_reigning_monarchs_by_length_of_reign And the Sultan of Brunei is reigning longer than Margarethe...

    Queen Elizabeth II

I think they all were surprised by this. I keep hearing how they've had the protocol for years, how to prepare the public for her death because people apparently can't deal with a sudden death. And I think they didn't want to give the impression that she died alone - though between the lines the "resting comfortably" apparnetly meant that she was in a coma. I think they wanted to keep up apeearances of a "happy end", as much as this is possible in such circumstances.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Yeah... because she stroked out and died around noon... but they're too far gone with the whole "family is coming together to meet her before she goes" storyline that they can't go back.

    Death By Numbers 2022

Indeed, let's get this out of the way. Both Marsha Hunt and Queen Elizabeth II are new hits for this update. Frequently picked, more points for many players. I don't add to the myriad of obituaries here. HOWEVER, I also belatedly want to add the scores for three names that passed by me. I combed through the names, and stumbled across them... I will do so before the end of the game, again, no name will be left forgotten. But for now, let's add Claes Oldenburg for doulton. A swedish artist and sculpturist (?) whose work I incidentally stumbled upon in Frankfurt last month. His "inverted tie" is prominently placed there. Torva Messor gets points for Jill Knight, who is actually Baroness Knight. That name divergence is how it evaded me - though I did add her in the DDP... ah well. And finally, Joe Monepenny's heavy focus on Asian names pays off here with Chor Yuen, who had also been picked in the DDP and got a qualifying Yahoo obit. I guess, I couldn't imagine anyone picking him here, how wrong I was! So, these 5 new hits don't change the world, but they move it a little, with JohnKey the highest-ranking player now with new points: Rank Team Score 1 Banana 1173 2 Salmon Mousse 1124 3 An Fear Beag 1117 4 gcreptile 1046 5 msc 1039 6 Book 1007 7 Predictor 970 8 Joey Russ 945 9 Cpt. Most Significant Death Of Each Month

As much as QE 2 was known to everyone, I dont think she was THAT significant in history - because her role doesn't require it. She was definitely an iconic symbol, for stability, dignity, as a woman in leadership, basically like a friendly neighbour to everyone. But she never really interfered with history, because she chose not to. It makes her similar to Obama, maybe, who was/is hugely important as a symbol, whereas his legacy, except for a couple of truly significant measures, was damaged a lot by his successor. Putin, on the other hand, almost single-handedly resurrected a Russian Empire - until he, probably, ruined it all, this year. Still, symbols are extremely important as well, see the reactions to Muhammad Ali. Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney didnt change history but "touched" millions/billions of people in little ways.

Pop culture you've merged in your head

Ashli Babbitt, the woman who was killed by Capitol police on the Jan 6th coup attempt, is trending on twitter. I always confuse her with Lorena Bobbitt, the lady who cut off her husband's penis in the 90s. So whenever she's trending, I keep thinking "what has she done now" even though she's dead.

But what if the body is born as an empty vessel and is just waiting to be occupied by the billions of souls floating around? Maybe bodies are like soul vacuum cleaners.

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

Oh, and personally, I'm trying to battle through World War Z, the zombie book by Max Brooks, son of DeathList entry Mel Brooks. Currently, I'm only managing to read in the evening, and when I'm extremely tired. Guess I'm not giving it a fair trial.

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

Hm.. are there any books where the man is actually a decent person but is instead driven to suicide or into a catastrophe by the needy woman - but we only can read that in between the lines - because it's written from her perspective?
