I just read that the production of Bitcoins demands as much electricity as Norway. Something is seriously wrong with us as a species. Such an economic waste, the sole purpose is to get money out of nothing. And so indicative of every economic bubble, i.e. pricing goods according to speculation but without an economic need. Regular currencies are backed by the economic power of their countries, but Bitcoin? Probably powered by its purchasing power, too, which is not countries, but in the end, illegal businesses.

Well, well, well, the hits keep on coming faster than I can update. First, msc gets a belated unique hit with Dovid Soloveitchik, forgot about that, sorry! And then, who else, Susan Bayh, Leon Spinks, Karen Lewis - oh and then, Jean-Claude Carriere, a unique hit for Yorkshire Banker (here and in the DDP, well done). And Ron Wright. Ironically, Diana Ross has been picked, but not Mary Wilson. Neither was George Shultz picked. So I guess, it could have been even more. The scoreboard impresses with me with the lockstep advances of the top. Places 1-4 unchanged: Edit: Oh yeah, and everyone is now in the race. Rank Team Score 1 Cpt. Ahem, maybe Ezra Nawi is a candidate.... Senator David Norris?

It's the Guardian "Other Lives" section. Which is where you can submit your own obituaries (as in you are the author, not the dead person). The Guardian publishes it if the person is interesting enough.

Okay, I had to check because of Jean-Claude Carriere, but you have a point. The rules only say that the news section of Yahoo counts, not the Eurosport and finance sites. Irrelevant for Josh Evans, as mentioned. ... and now... okay, I thought Carriere only had a yahoo finance mention, but no, he already has this: https://uk.news.yahoo.com/jean-claude-carriere-oscar-winning-234131804.html And honestly, I think yahoo works in the way that once you see it on one of their sections, you see it on all of them. I mean, why should Carriere get a Sports or finance obit? And while I only saw the international link of that obit in Google news, I was able to just add the "uk." bit to the URL and voilà... So practically, once it's anywhere on Yahoo, it's everywhere. Edit: Yeah, works just as well for Josh Evans: https://uk.news.yahoo.com/josh-evans-titans-tackle-2000-213627734.html

Helma Kisser, is actually Helma Kissner, or Helma Maaß. She lived in a retirement home in Neumünster at least until 2017. Was "acutely ill" at one point and so, unfit for trial. But recovered after that.

German Wikipedia has Hans Sommer dying in Brescia, Italy, in 1987. The move to Brescia is confirmed in this book: https://books.google.de/books?id=oyDSxlfCq4EC&pg=PA165&lpg=PA165&dq=hans+sommer+brescia&source=bl&ots=IVVJkK_v8N&sig=ACfU3U19B4qe0qjjjJuBkTpV30LG7Vgm9A&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiOrsXundvuAhWR8uAKHWnMC3MQ6AEwEHoECAkQAQ#v=onepage&q=hans sommer brescia&f=false

Also being charged right now, a 100-year old former guard at Sachsenhausen, yet unnamed as far as I can tell: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-germany-nazis/german-prosecutors-charge-100-year-old-former-concentration-camp-guard-idUSKBN2A823W

"Funny" how those eternal glioblastoma sufferers Bayh and Lewis died within a week of each other. While Bayh became a more and more popular hit, Karen Lewis got forgotten, at least in the DDP.

Yeah, didn't get around to post this in the last week. She lives in a retirement home now. I really don't know how to feel about this.

American Football (And Other Yank 'sports')

I guess there is something real about getting a fecal transplant of Tom Brady. -
"Unexpected"? That depends on what you expected, I'd say. Still unnatural, though.

Jacques Delors, pretty soon.

So... What Games Are You Playing?
gcreptile replied to the_engineer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I bought Disco Elysium a couple of weeks ago at a GOG sale, and finished it today. RPG / Adventure game right up my alley. Lots of political-philosophic talk, neat skill system, weird sense of humour. Doesn't overstay its welcome. I also started the Outer Worlds a couple of months ago, but with these bigger open world games (even though it's not THAT open) , you know how it is, things always come up, and you end up taking breaks. It's slightly underwhelming in that I usually expect the absolute best of that company(Obsidian). And the game is "only" good. A notable drop in quality if you compare it to Fallout 4, which I've been playing here and there in the past half year.- 113 replies

It wasn't a joke. Good call by the committee.

I simply forgot about carrying over Spinks. My first real miss, I'd say. I keep the lead but Banana comes close again.

Major upheaval of the scoreboard. All the balls are shuffled in the box, or something.... Jackie Treehorn comes out on top. Depending on what time exactly the QO articles appeared, GUN's K2 theme team might have virtually lead for a few hours between the QO of Skatov and the QO of Susan Bayh.

I had no idea, this was such an epic undertaking. Anyway, there's potential for more: https://explorersweb.com/2021/02/05/k2-many-sst-climbers-not-yet-in-base-camp/ Antonis Sykaris, for example, "exhausted and frostbitten" with 3rd degree burns.

You guys and girls managed to pick them well. We've got it all covered. Christopher Plummer is a unique hit for Baby Blue. Josh Evans is a unique hit for Joey Russ. Mike Henry is a unique hit for Gooseberry Crumble. Hal Holbrook as written above was picked twice, and the Captain Tom Moore was picked quite a lot. That's five hits in a week! The new scoreboard shows Joey making the biggest jump, but it's not quite enough to surpass Cpt. Chorizo. Josh Evans is also an example of someone I picked for the DDP but not in here, so you know, at some point in late December, I decided to say "Fuck it, let's pick him". But I hadn't arrived at that point for this competition. Rank Team Score 1 Cpt. American Football Players
gcreptile replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList Forum
A bit silly of me not to put Evans in the main team. With hindsight, but also from the outset, picking him was less risky and more rewarding than Ezra Nawi (who would now need the Pete Felton-like indirect fluke obit). -
If you believe, Captain Tom showed us that healthcare doesn't need to be paid with taxes, but can instead rely on private benefactors. All capitalists agree. By the way, how is my dear "I want to work with terminal cancer" MBE Jacci Woodcock doing? (Probably about to die because I dropped her from all my teams)

We need to clone him, we need to put his corpse into Gunther Von Hagen's exhibition.

To reiterate a theory of mine, perhaps Betty made it onto the list because the committee always makes sure there is the obligatory homo on there. After all, somebody had to replace Pierre Cardin.
