Both UK and US press is probably pretty much occupied with other things. But yeah, pretty much nothing lately.

The Penny Mordaunt loss reminds me a bit of George Allen, the Senator from Virginia who lost to Jim Webb in 2006 (and then the Senate switched to Dem control by one vote). Allen was widely regarded as a future Republican leader, VP or presidential candidate, maybe Senate majority leader. Also, Mordaunt might have been a better future figurehead than the nasty women who survived this election. If one of these wins the leadership race, a rump Conservative Party might merge with Reform.

Quite possibly the most deluded person I've ever seen in public. Quite possibly the biggest political loser ever. Of course, there are wanna-be politicians who never rise up the ranks at all, but then, they never even get the chance to fail so spectacularly. I wonder what she does next, die of shame? OnlyFans? I really cant tell.

Looks to me like Labour really got the most out of what they could possibly get within these rules and this world. If this was done with proportional representation Labour would probably lead a LAB-LIB government. Their absolute vote was overestimated in the polls and doesn't compare to Blair's victories. So Starmer has a giant mandate that he will have to use to shape his party to a future when Labour isn't the default choice. I now get why Corbyn's Labour was regarded as weak on anti-semitism, and why he was wishy-washy on Brexit. He was trying to keep his extremely diverse coaltion together. Starmer will have this problem, too. On the other hand, the Reform/Tory conflict wont go away. It'll be Civil War over there. And Ed Davey struck gold with his campaign which is unlikely to be repeated.

I think higher turnout means that Reform will have a strong result. It's similar to a lot of elections in other countries where the rising divide increases turnout. I also believe that there are "shy reform" voters instead of "shy tories". Yes, I do think the Tories will get pretty much destroyed.

Trains will be thrusting into tunnels all across the world!

Don't know why it's in this thread, but... here's some rumour mongering on Keith Ape's health: https://www.koreaboo.com/stories/keith-ape-g-ma-rapper-disappeared-after-declaring-months-live-cohort-racism-problematic-kohh/ Apparently not quite there in interviews, but occasionally showing up on social media. We never found out why he supposedly only had months to live. I assume that his doctor told him that if he doens't change his life he'd be dead in months. But he probably only slightly changed his drug consumption.

More cancelled concerts: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13596789/Willie-Nelson-cancels-concert-illness-fans-react.html Will he ever return? Or is his tank simply out of gas, like with Jerry Lee Lewis?

An update: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13599279/Jurassic-Park-star-Sam-Neill-gives-update-grim-cancer-battle-undergoing-gruelling-treatment-filming-Twelve.html Though looking at this thread, there isn't that much news.

Some media reports do actually say that the decline has been rapid, but fairly recent: https://jabberwocking.com/bidens-cognitive-decline-may-be-fairly-recent/ So it's not a slow age-related slip into senility. I actually wonder if it's the beginning of a medical condition, also with the pale look...circulatory issues... This is a bit attention-seeking from me, but hey, it's a forum, so I say it. Maybe it's the beginning of Alzheimer's disease. We might have had this before, with Ronald Reagan. Some flubs in 1984 however didn't actually hurt his campaign: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/jan/17/ronald-reagan-alzheimers-president-son But Reagan was an actor and smooth talker. Joe Biden is real and a stutterer, so it looks worse for him - plus, he's 8 years older than Reagan was in 1984.

Yes, the idea will be how to best position Kamala Harris for the race. Clyburn was the one who demanded that Biden picked an African-American VP. They will have to do a balancing act, how to take Joe off the ticket, without harming the whole administration. I do believe that the Biden administration has actually been pretty competent.

Australian rugby player Geoff Robinson has died at 66: https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/nrl-canterbury-bulldogs-icon-geoff-robinson-has-died/news-story/4b91f8fc43ed2aad0688547d9c433cc0 He was a Death By Numbers pick for me two years ago because of throat cancer. He died of a heart attack in the end.

I've heard Roy Cooper being mentioned. He's older/more experienced than Shapiro. He won NC by 4% whereas Shapiro won PA by 15%. NC though has been a very fixed-at-50:50 state. So yes, he's also good on paper. Personally, I think it would be good to have a Gen Xer on the ticket. Harris is still born during the last year of the Baby Boomers. Trump does/did actually best against Biden in the GenX age bracket. Maybe Beshear is the best choice then, but he wont make Kentucky a blue state.
-
I think this is actually forcing Democrats to actually think "who can win" instead of "who do we like best". Trump will drive up turnout for and against him. Dems need someone who can convince enough independents/centrists. So it does not need to be a darling of the base - except that Harris needs to stay on the ticket. So the other person best be a moderate, white, young-ish man, preferably a governor as opposed to Harris's legislative experience. Josh Shapiro, or Andy Beshear. Bonus points for Shapiro for being from a must-win state.

It's not unusual for a candidate to release their delegates to vote for whomever they want, or whomever the defeated candidate endorses. Didn't Bernie's delegates even swing their support to Hillary at some point?

Nancy Pelosi seemed open to having an argument. James Clyburn is moving to secure the space for Kamala Harris. It's very insider-y, but something is going on.

Things are happening... it seems possible to me that he drops out next weekend.

Compared to these two games today, the England game was riveting.

It would be good for everyone, including himself, if somebody would just euthanize Cristiano Ronaldo. In our office pool I predicted a Portugal win, but I WANT Slovenia to win.

Yeah, I kind of think it's what I had expected, it is a Bush Jr. era kind of ruling. It all depends on what one considers executive authority. You can interpret it in a lot of ways, and naturally both sides will expect the other side to abuse it.

The final match-up: wannamaker vs max_bossetti 1 Syed Golam Sarwar (Haq Chacha) (Joker) 1 Chuwit Kamolvisit (joker) 2 Chuwit Kamolvisit 2 Noam Chomsky 3 Linda Tirado 3 Joanna Paul-Robie 4 Brian Dayett 4 Jimmy Carter 5 Jimmy Carter 5 Linda Tirado 6 Dave Cokin 6 Paul Harrell 7 Tim Katona (NRHA) 7 Wayne Eddy 8 Simon Boas 8 Jayapataka Swami 9 K. M. Shafiullah 9 Steve McCoy 10 Norm McPhee (Theatre Director) 10 Jane McAlevey 11 Paul Harrell 11 Brian Dayett Sub: Sub: 1 Wayne Eddy 1 Frank Caprio 2 Yehuda Deri 2 Jamal Yunos 3 Baselios Thomas I 3 Sean Wallace wannamaker has two fringe-y names in Tim Katona and Norm McPhee. However, both of them received nationwide recognition. If, for example, Norm McPhee was "only" a community theatre director, he wouldn't count because his fame would be "too local". But here are some sources for these two showing them receiving national awards: https://racinecountyeye.com/2021/06/08/racine-theatre-director-aact-national-award/ https://bellevilleareaindependent.com/tim-katona-earns-nrha-lifetime-achievement-award/ By the way, I liked how I received both teams within 8 minutes.
