The World of the Snowflake
gcreptile replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Child wants to eat beans and asks her Dad to open a can of beans. Dad thinks it's a teachable moment, so he wants her to open it on her own. The girl tries to open the can for six hours until she does so. Dad thinks it's a great success and he tweets the whole story. It goes viral, the Dad is now "Bean Dad" but he gets accusations of child abuse, and so on: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55549536 Ken Jennings supports "Bean Dad" so he cannot host Jeopardy! anymore: https://mashable.com/article/ken-jennings-bean-dad-jeopardy/?europe=true "Bean Dad" btw, is a notable podcaster, John Roderick. -
Well, Dovid Soloveitchik is currently deteriorating again, as of this 1 hour old article: https://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/headlines-breaking-stories/1935415/atzeres-tefillah-to-be-held-for-harav-dovid-soloveitchik-led-by-harav-chaim-kanievsky.html

DDP pick, but possibly only obitable to a far-left media source, maaaybe the Guardian, possibly the Morning Star Online.
-
Oh, I remember the name. A slightly bigger name in America, for maybe 1-2 years, so definitely obitable. Although it seems he took some necessary steps to stay alive. Edit: He was also on David Bowie's in-between Black Tie, White Noise album. Ah, so that is definitely how I know the name.

She may only have months to live: https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/dame-sheila-hancock-told-gyles-23260303 But not really because of illness, more like because of age. She has rheumatoid arthritis but that shouldn't kill her.

Tanya Roberts also a missed one - but who could have known...

Thoughts and Opinions on the 2021 Deathlist
gcreptile replied to Charles De Gaulle's topic in DeathList Forum
Ah yes, here it is. I agree, there is a slight unbalance towards the US "political industrial" complex. Greenspan and Limbaugh also belong in it. -
Lovely pool - really brings a different game up to the front. And with this list, we don't have it easy. Not many 100% locks, but many good possibilities. 1. Rush Limbaugh (joker) 2. Leon Spinks 3. Jimmy Carter 4. Rosalynn Carter 5. Abdelaziz Bouteflika 6. Raul Castro 7. Cpt. Tom Moore 8. Yoko Ono 9. Benedict XVI 10. Jimmy Greaves 11. Sidney Poitier 12. Jacques Delors 13. Leslie Phillips 14. Bob Barker 15. Bob Dole 16. Bob Newhart 17. Joanne Woodward 18. Frank Williams

By the way, the comments above hopefully demonstrate the huge amount of respect our previous one-man-showrunners deserve.

Very nice words, Mr. Leader. It does help if you (I), among other things, work with Excel, and occasionally Access for a living. And coding, well, I did it as a child on my C64, if anyone still remembers these. I mean, the programming languages, in the end, are similar. It's mostly the same system, like foreign languages of the same family. I still have those error screens on my mind though, and was pretty much just about to give up when it finally worked. If I had had to do the packed 3-4 weeks of checking and accepting teams that Grim had, I would have run out of the house screaming. Similarly, if I had to do what you do, especially the human side of things, the way you tie together the community, I wouldn't be able to manage it (not to mention the record number of obituaries you had to write). Well, let's hope it'll be less stressful this year. I guess the site will come online second next weekend. With the efficiency we've gained over last year, I want to add new photos by the way. This year we couldn't do in a timely manner.

Several hits lately, not just Brian Urquhart, but also Michael McKevitt and Jan Morris.
-
Thanks, Old Crem. They waited one and a half months for DJ Jose Padilla, in a three-men-show. That must have been quite the black hole for them.
-
Book, I think my score misses a zero at the end. Should be +490, instead of +49.
-
Larry was a pretty late cut for my teams. I thought that a man who has proven so resilient, would also survive the latest crisis. Well, I didn't know of the COVID, of course.
-
Well, kind of yes, you go the other way round. Start with a name you know is definitely not going to last. In the first round, I started with Ian Holm, in the second round with Rush Limbaugh. Then find a movie where you already know that there is a good second name, that was Sean Connery in the first round - and in the second round Paul Westphal, a spectacular find. The third name, well, it just needs to be plausible. I was lucky in the first round that Katherine Helmond obliged. Now just imagine Liz Sheridan living to 100.
-
Thanks! DDT also has that cleric though.
-
Paul Westphal is a first hit for my shameless team that is probably going to turn into "Waiting for Liz" very soon.
-
I will give a first update after I close the 2020 competition. So in a couple of days, I hope you can wait.
-
I like how meticulously they quote the rules.
-
First hit for the Old Lady with Michael McKevitt, once an "official" obit appears.
-
Congratulations Etushi!!

Likely DDP hit I'd say, but she died on Dec 31st.

Louis Gossett Jr. has COVID, he was hospitalized but is now out again. More of interest, is that he has some kind of cancer as an underlying condition: https://www.tmz.com/2020/12/31/louis-gossett-jr-covid-19-left-hospital-out-coronavirus/

Okay, juggling some probabilities around...18, 19.... Let me say 18.
