Prince Philip seems like the obvious choice, but I think, if it is someone else, it's the Cpt. Tom Moore. Seems fitting.

Submitted my team, good luck, committee, please get it right

If so, another one for the List of the Missed.

We are approaching the finish line! This is the second to last update of the competition. Remember there are 7 more days in 2021 for late obits to appear. It doesn't happen often, but it means, that the next update will come in two weeks, and THEN we will declare a winner. In this update we have the new hits: Chuck Yeager, Barbara Windsor, George Blake, a unique for Skinny Kiltrunner (still there?), oh, and of course, the popular pick Ged Stokes. Cpt Chorizo's pick Bhanwarlal Meghwal is a non-obit, did I mention that before? Anyway, I hope I've got them all, but will check once again for hidden hits before the end. If I miss anything, please tell me. The standings: Rank Team Score 1 Death Impends 1246 2 Joey Russ 1244 3 gcreptile 1165 4 msc 1151 5 Banana 1124 6 Cpt. There are not that many, but there are about 3-4 that could push him over the top, mainly Sylvain Sylvain. But not Lee Noble, who would push Joey ahead of Death Impends, but I would leapfrog him, since Noble is my joker. So Death Impends is leading, with Joey and me a hit away, but my hit would have to be Lee Noble. Everybody else is at least two more hits away from the top.

Now we know that in 2008, James Doohan's ashes made it to the ISS: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9088621/Star-Trek-actor-James-Doohans-ashes-smuggled-board-International-Space-Station.html Edit: Had to edit, because it's an old story, meh.... Edit 2: Heh, the ashes were smuggled onto the ISS by Richard Garriott, legendary video game designer of the Ultima series.

Deathrace Form Guide #15 or somewhat Carlos Menem - former president of Argentina: This charming zombie and occasional criminal, has seen his fair share of health ups and downs recently, changing daily. Will he make it that far, and then maybe even a little longer?
-
Okay, my first designated Deathrace joker has died very quickly, Father Martin Bugler of New Zealand: https://notices.nzherald.co.nz/obituaries/nzherald-nz/obituary.aspx?n=martin-bugler-father&pid=197361824&fhid=41029

Yes, I got that number from 2 sources now....so 69 it is!
-
Good to know. There's also a Metro obit that refers to the date of death, the 23rd. But.... does anyone have the age?
-
Interestingly, Blake had just been honored as the "patriarch of Russian intelligence" a couple of days ago: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/13543649/british-traitor-george-blake-spies-bbc-russia/

Hit no. 271...so 5 more. Which is doable in the remaining days. Especially if the BBC "In memoriam" page adds a name or two. Charles Campion's death hasn't been picked up so far. Okay, it's christmas, but that might be bad timing for him. I wondered if the news might have been wrong, but the source seems very solid.

Magic Johnson, And Other Basketball Players

Rajinikanth hospitalized again: https://m.thewire.in/article/health/rajinikanth-hospitalised-after-severe-blood-pressure-fluctuations It's roughly the 56th time in the past 5 years. He's a potential immortal, but still about 15 years too young.

Brett Ferencz, one half of the instagram duo "scotch trooper" who put Star Wars mini figures next to random stuff, has pancreatic cancer: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-scotch-trooper-pay-for-cancer-treatment Their peak of visiblity was in 2018 though, so pick at your own risk.

I want the 20th hit now, so I go with "That's it!"

So now he has renal failure and is in an induced coma: https://www.latercera.com/mundo/noticia/expresidente-carlos-menem-sufre-falla-renal-y-se-encuentra-en-estado-grave/H5UOVCM55FD5FNEGD7YXMZ3RTA/

The Deathlist Christmas Special!
gcreptile replied to Lady Die's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I think I actually made it. But then, they don't play music where I'm shopping, and Germany's in lockdown, and I've been working from home for the past 4 weeks, etc... However, I am very much willingly listening to Mariah Carey right now. -
Yes, I saw that. They are all just quoting the Club. For now, I have neither day nor place. In the end, they are not necessary - but I'll wait for something more specific.
-
Ah yes, one of the potential FFBI hits I still saw possible. One of the other ones, by the way, is Hope Stringer.

Minimalists (and other classical composers/musicians)

Israeli violinist Ivry Gitlis dead at 98: https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/israel/1608817435-israel-s-violin-genius-ivry-gitlis-dies-at-98 A-list name in these circles. Heavily under consideration for my old classical music theme team, but he was very active all the time. But it seems he declined pretty fast. -
My shameless teams had 4 uniques, twice, but that's because it was an ... untapped market.... I think 5 hits is very, very likely to be a record. I have just checked the first 5 years of the DDP (fewer players, more uniques?). Nobody had more than three.
-
I see it! I am pretty sure, there'll be a "real" obit, soon, too. Edit: 5 unique hits for your team, not bad at all!
-
A more recent picture: He had a stint in a mental institution for a short while and is currently being sued for violent behaviour.
-
Perhaps he actually has an amputation fetish, and the chopping off the penis was just a cover story.

I'd like to add Scottish actress Phyllida Law to the suggestions, she has Parkinson's now: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8337737/Emma-Thompson-staying-Britain-tells-mothers-illness-backs-Mail-Force-campaign.html
