A sleepy semi-finals round reaches its final day. If it stays like this, there are teams with six surviving hospice people. Maybe the definition of hospice has changed? Maybe it's not what it used to be! It is somewhat comical that they all just hang on.

Have a feeling the quarterfinals of Germany vs. Spain (sorry, Georgia) is a very early final match. Germany isn't there yet, so that will be it for us. Austria on the other side seems to have a clear path. Turkey might be stronger than Switzerland, because Italy was just not a good opponent this year. But Turkey will get out-coached.

The Sir Creep of baseball...

Half-year update time you say? Alright, let's work our way back, chronologically. Lizzy Musi was a drag racer, not the drag queen kind of drag, but actual race cars. She got somewhat famous by appearing on a Discovery Channel show called "Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings", itself a spin-off of "Street Outlaws". I was not only surprised by that QO (but shouldn't have), but also by her death. But it once again shows that going to Germany for experimental treatment is pretty much a death guarantee. msc bet big and wins, BabyBlue also scores. Then we have to go back over a week for Baseball legend Willie Mays. Not my forte but it seems that his description as a legend was completely justified. He was one of the most-decorated players of all-time and also a bit of a trailblazer and historically important person. Cpt. Hemlock and Yorkshire Banker achieve the home run.. Funeralopolis scores a unique hit with James Chance, saxophonist and frontman of the Contortionists. He worked in the intersection of punk and jazz in the vibrant scene of New York. As a deadpooling name, he was curiously underpicked considering his known health issues. Paul Spencer aka Dario G. is a popular hit for many players, including a joker for Buffalo Phil and TorvaMessor. As so often with DJs (like the already dead Robert Miles, and the still living Gigi D'Agostino), he built a decades-long career of DJ'ing and producing upon the success of 2-3 hits within a short period of time. His three UK top 10 hits happened between 1997-2001 which matches up almost perfectly with Miles and D'Agostino, too. Those were the days... His death proves that stage 4 cancer is still very far away from just being a chronic condition. Next one is Francoise Hardy. The french chantreuse rose to fame in the early 60s while still being under the age of 18. And because the continent and especially France are purposefully slow to adopt the anglo-american pop culture, she had enough time to build a massive career with classic singing and songwriting before the british invasion. Her last live appearance was then in the late 60s, and she moved away from pop stardom to intellectual all-around star, as an actress and model, you know, just like Lady Gaga. Her last years were one massive complaint about her health, and especially her throat cancer. Quite a few people in this game listened. But now, let's switch it up and let's go to the even bigger hits: Simon Cowell, the conservation activist/expert/philantropist. Actually, is there a word for being a philantropist of animals,... philo...zoo...ist? Well, I hope I didn't accidentally switch the Cowells up with you all. You may want to check. Naturally, he was an extremely popular hit. But no joker points. On the other hand, Rob Burrow was just about as popular as a deadpooling pick, but he also gives joker points for Predictor, msc, Summer in Transilvania, The Old Crem, Cpt. Chorizo, Salmon Mousse, The Unknown Man, and.... I forgot someone... my Excel search went too fast. If you count the joker choices as two picks, he might have just been the most popular pick of this pool in this year. And while ALS can rarely be timed with a 100% accuracy, his young age made Burrow an irresistible pick in this pool - which, after all, discriminates more by age than the DDP. Next one is William Russell: a beloved British actor with such a long-lasting career he got the world record for having the biggest gap between two appearances on a show, Doctor Who in this case. But then, there are not that many shows that match Doctor Who in longevity either... He seems to have been in almost every British TV show ever, often for 1-2 episodes, but he also had bigger parts in The Adventures of Sir Lancelot and Coronation Street. I seem to have missed some health news, because 6 teams picked him. Not entirely different from William Russell is the career of Janis Paige. Very long-lasting, starting in Theatre, her rise to stardom though a decade earlier, 40s instead of 50s, and also getting to a higher age, being a rare big star centenarian. Seems she retired completely in the early 2000s, though her last major role was in the Daily Soap Santa Barbara in the early 90s. Still, a career of 50+ years is quite something. Three teams score. Okay, and since it's getting late, I think I'll call it a day. I'll double-check this weekend again, as I suspect that there might be a hit or two missing. But also, we had a few misses, you know, like the DeathList. Nobody picked Donald Sutherland, Tin Oo, Anouk Aimee, etc.... The scoreboad looks like this, I am still ahead, but Cpt. Chorizo's Burrow joker points get him almost there. Funeralopolis gets ready to repeat his strong performance of last year. Lizzy Musi drives msc into contention: Rank Team Score 1 gcreptile 1040 2 Cpt. He's in the "I have good days and bad days" stage. Has been for a while, honestly. It's getting hard (and too nerve-wrecking) to decide what counts as a good or bad day, though.

Angela Rayner must have replaced Diane Abbott as the conservatives' favourite boogeywoman, as there always has to be a woman from the centre-left party who is implied to be too close to communism and too soft on crime in her spare time.

Haven't watched (yet), but it doesn't sound good. Trump apparently didn't do well either, but that only makes the case for replacing Biden better. Like, they can (almost) run anybody else...I kind of think that they have to replace him but not Harris, because of the AA vote. She has to stay VP though, because she's not popular enough to be at the top of the ticket. Now, they cant do a California-only ticket - but would that make Gavin Newsom go rogue? If they replace Biden, they'd have to do it at the convention. Considering the logistics and optics, it would have to be a unanimous choice (at least officially). The new candidate needs to hit the ground running. So what to do, go for the Whitmer/Harris two-women ticket? Or would there be anybody willing to be a last-minute candidate, possibly even for just one term, because the Democratic bench will be much stronger in 2028? I .. think.. they should put Josh Shapiro at the top. Newsom would then have to be secrerary of state, like Obama did with Hillary. Never has there been such a good reason for replacing the top of the ticket, it's nobody's fault - age is just natural. Also, nobody ever did a full 4 terms at the White House, which Joe Biden might still achieve. It shows just how unusual it would be for him to stay around even longer. I hope he can see that.

Oh, I meant by him. But probably also by them!

I really should have picked him in the hospitalization pool. He isn't dying anyway, and each hospital visit is being complained about.

Australia's notorious "bicycle bandit" Kym Allen Parsons has late-stage cancer and is only expected to live for a few more days: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13567059/Notorious-bank-robber-Bicycle-Bandit-Kym-Allen-Parsons.html However, he also wants to commit legal suicide before that - so he won't make the Poker Pool teams, probably.

Edit: Sorry, no news after all. USA Today was just very slow in reporting the above news.

I bet he's in a machine like Mr. House of Fallout: New Vegas. He's also anticipating the coming nuclear apocalypse.
