Old, but otherwise, nothing to report it seems.

The "Departure Lounge" - a place to come to terms with mortality: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/may/05/welcome-to-the-deaprture-lounge-destination-death "Death has been a zeitgeist subject for some years now – witness the Death Café phenomenon, the growth of conferences and books on dying and TV series like the recent Ricky Gervais Netflix comedy After Life. " No mention of the DeathList though - but "Top Tips for a Good Death"

Article on (prospective future deathlist member) Werner Herzog's interviews with Mikhail Gorbachev. Health news in the final bit - a suspicious health decline that prevented him (Gorbachev, not Herzog) from attendinh the premiere: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/may/01/werner-herzog-im-not-a-pundit-dont-push-me-into-that-corner

Stop the press!! CNN Breaking News - Duterte watches Netflix: http://cnnphilippines.com/news/2019/5/4/photo-duterte-watching-netflix-davao-home.html?fbclid=IwAR2 This explains a previous six-day absence (!) from the public eye, which had led to another round of health speculation. First, are we getting to the point that our world leaders frequently are content with taking the odd TV-time out here and there? Second, is that House of Cards?

The most important internet blogger of Russia, very anti-Putin, has revealed his real name. "StalinGulag" is named Alexander Gorbunov: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-48132193 Adding to the natural danger of any russian opposition politician is his terminal illness, spinal muscular atrophy. So yes, he's like the Russian head-transplant guy with a "real" claim to fame.

Heart attack - ah, you can never tell. RIP

Japanese punk musician, main member of "The Stalin", Michiro Endo, dead at 68: https://www.excite.co.jp/news/article/Techinsight_20190502_608060/ (japanese link) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michiro_Endo I picked him for the Deathrace and the Alt Obits. The music is.... well...punk.

Russ Gibb, a DJ infamous for starting the "Paul McCartney is dead" theory, has died at 87: https://loudwire.com/russ-gibb-death/ I mean, that's what the article says, but MPFC probably knows more details.

msc's non-obit theme team now has 7 non-obits and 1 premature death (Tanya Gendle). The record here is Shameless 2016 with 8 non-obits and 1 premature death (cancer dad XYZ). Getting close...

Depending on Deathray's obit standards, this might be an obit for my pick Dave Agosti: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/toledoblade/obituary.aspx?n=david-agosti&pid=192119440&fhid=27574

Okay, let's see if that works: Looks like DDP pick Dave Agosti died around early April: <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fthenutones1%2Fposts%2F10155799430476330&width=500" width="500" height="594" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"></iframe> Ehh, well it doesn't, I'm too stupid - anyway, check the NU-tones facebook page. Edit: This is the obituary from the local newspaper: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/toledoblade/obituary.aspx?n=david-agosti&pid=192119440&fhid=27574

Very personal opinions: A Brit should still lead, i.e. have the keys of the whole thing. The tasks should be spread across several people. I am one of those, probably quite a few of the active posters here, with these OCD-like tendencies for lists and the general ordering of data, who would enjoy contributing data, pictures, or maybe even write a few obituaries (of the famous-beyond-the-UK variety).

As the name is now out of the bag - I would suggest to add Kashmir separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani to our list of stubborn immortals: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syed_Ali_Shah_Geelani Renal cancer 2006/2007, "severe" chest infection in 2007, house arrest since 2010, death rumours in 2014, recently hospitalised for a stomach infection, but out of hospital again (bad news for my cup team?) Maybe there's a Shivakamurian potential in his future. (Or actually, he reminds me of my former Cup miss - M. Karunanidhi)

You were right, the BBC obit surprised me. At least the name is still a level above them all.

Surfer legend Sunny Garcia "fighting for life" after suicide attempt: http://www.mygc.com.au/surf-legend-sunny-garcia-fighting-for-life-in-hospital/ Isn't it rather "fighting for death"?

Pete was hospitalized after getting stabbed by a hedgehog spine: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/8964803/pete-doherty-hedgehog-spine-hospital/ What?
-
Timing has become even more important now - because it can really hurt you a lot to wait until the last moment to post your team. All your picks could get devalued. I have a bad feeling about waiting - will I be able to get any points for Kathleen Blanco? Probably not. But tomorrow is going to be my last chance to score with Sprent Dabwido, so I will wait. I don't know if it's better or worse than last year, but definitely different.

The news is getting out: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/new-york-dolls-sylvain-sylvain-diagnosed-with-cancer-gofundme-launched/ I like how they say that it's going well, but the gofundme says that he's been fighting it for a year and that the upcoming surgery "may" do the trick...
