    Dead Architects

I was in the city of Dessau last weekend, famous worldwide for the Bauhaus and the "Meisterhäuser" by Walter Gropius. They looked somewhat between ordinary and ugly.

    Rotten Dead Pool

7/10 now after Billy Graham - personal best. Sadly, I subbed out Barys Kit for George Bush Sr. who now looks like the most likely holdout.

    Pope Benedict XVI

I don't like the way he looks (in the sense that I wouldn't want to look like this). Not Dilip-Kumar-bad but still...

Very high on my (imaginary) list of likely returns of lung cancer.

    Franco Zeffirelli

I have promoted him quite a bit in the past months, to no avail. But then, I might have overestimated his decrepitude.

    Gay Byrne

He finished chemo and says the signs are good: https://www.independent.ie/life/health-wellbeing/living-with-cancer/gay-byrne-ends-chemotherapy-the-fight-continues-and-weve-a-long-hard-road-to-go-yet-36619070.html Yet, there's an undertone that it isn't over, and it feels to me as if it only is a respite. I have a feeling it will be back in the fall, and more severe. Maybe charon is right?

    Interesting Ways To Die...

Ah, I only check the most closely-related threads, never more than 2-3 (and I would have had to search for the term 'hair' to have a chance) ... anyway... Getting killed by melting headphones (caused by electric shock?) while you charge your mobile phone: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5626441/girl-17-electrocuted-with-headphones-melted-in-her-ears-while-using-her-mobile-that-was-charging/

    Political Frailty

Interesting name only for Deathlist Cup purposes but I thought this personality deserves a bit more attention - John Howard, mayor of Lancaster, South Carolina. Had a stroke in 2017: http://www.thelancasternews.com/content/mayor-suffered-stroke-–-‘i-dodged-bullet’ Then diagnosed with lung cancer: http://www.thelancasternews.com/content/mayor-howard-begin-cancer-treatment Then he had an auto-immune reaction to chemo: another link but I'm paywalled now. Then he had pneunomia: another link but I'm paywalled now. Anyway, now he's recovering....

    The Dead of 2018

Catherine Nevin also got a Times obit: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/black-widow-dies-in-hospice-aged-67-from-brain-tumour-27ptxh5wj I like the recent interest of The Times in all Irish things. Already helped me with the Kevin Murray obit, will help me in the near future.

Foreign Personalities, From Stage, Screen, Politics And Life

Japanese actor Ren Osugi is dead at 66: https://kotaku.com/final-fantasy-xiv-dad-of-light-star-ren-osugi-has-died-1823185070 The article notes his video game acting. I am more interested in his roles in Takashi Miike's Audition and Dead or Alive.

    The Generation Game

34/60 now...what a slog... Though I guess, with all those belated additions it makes more sense to score the ones still left, so I'm at -26.

    Political Frailty

I didn't pick Steffan Lewis because I previously announced that I will not go for the December announcement picks this time. I also think he'll survive the year easily. But next year is a different question.

    Derby Dead Pool 2018

And still no Daily Mail obit.... Is it possible that they are more and more focused on America and Australia (the conservative axis) and forget Europe? Or similarly, are they more focused on the AP copy/paste and less interested in writing their own stuff because it costs too much or something?

Yes, I wanted to make this thread on New Year's Eve for the Hare's...but forgot about it...

    Derby Dead Pool 2018

Can't believe we're that obit-starved, what's going on? I think Nevin will not cross from the Irish Mirror to the UK Mirror, but the Daily Mail obit should have been there by now. And where's the Telegraph/Guardian obit for Lassie Lou Ahern? Too little to write about?

    The Deathlist Cup 2018

Hm, my second round team apparently only has Anne Hamilton-Byrne left. Nesmo Marbina died in May 2017. My first round team has three survivors, Benedict XVI (tactical pick, actually), M Karunanidhi (ripe for picking again, I guess), and Noel Conway. My third round team (against DI) has Anne Hamilton-Byrne, Beat Richner (turns out the ill health was dementia or alzheimer's, not cancer) and M. Karunanidhi. I forgot who "Hodgkin" was. But Manuel Noriega, Mohinder Kaur, Leo Cahill and Catherine Nevin have since died. Susan Stros already died back then but it could be she didn't obit or something... Anyway, I guess the team wasn't bad, just too slow.

Well, about 2017 leftovers... Simon Ricketts was in intensive care a couple of weeks ago. Recovering for now, and it seems he has won this round. But for the next time, I'm not so sure...
