I may be dissuading...it depends on whether I am going to pick her myself. Am I going to?

Team also sent 30 minutes ago. Good luck everyone! Personally, I believe I'm lacking 2-3 more good names to compete.

So How's Your 2018 Shortlist Looking?
gcreptile replied to Joey Russ's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Not really, well about 2-3 are gambles, but also some of those still-doing-ok picks, à la Daisy Berkowitz. I actually think we have fewer locks than last year now. -

Ok, I will not be going defense... This will be interesting. -
Ah, same thing as last year. You get points for posting early.

I think I understand the scoring system. Unless anyone objects, I can try to make a final scoreboard in a week. And if you object, please do it! Object now! I want you to object!! Fucking object, you faggot!

Now THAT is msc's Anna Holmlund of 2018.

The Rolling Probabilistic Ddp Scoreboard
gcreptile replied to gcreptile's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Ahem, so that last update will not be coming... I have to apologize, December was terribly busy and it might impact my team selections for 2018. - But then again, maybe not, since I already wanted to avoid hunting for those December names with terminal cancer, like Ricketts and Gilbert. So my research was quite good in mid-November. Let's see how far it takes me.... That William H Gass hit would have pushed Bucket of Blood to the place it belongs. The Love Boat would have gotten two more hits with Sharon Laws and Dmitri Hvorostovsky. In some way, it was justified that The Love Boat still scored so high in spite of being out of the Top 20 for most of the year. One more hit and it would have been Top 10. But that hit didn't come. Rayya Elias, Catherine Nevin and especially Leah Bracknell (the joker) lasted an unusual amount of time or exaggerated their illness. The biggest final score change would have come from King Michael who might have pushed Golden Slumbers to the top. I would also have reduced the possible scores of all still living people by another half. As a general resume: once unique hits and Drop 40 bonusses became clear, I had the top scores in the region of 140 pts. That was obviously too low. I wonder if I can get more precise next year, and will spend a week in January to do that. I know there was systematic bias in my calculations in favor of The Love Boat and against The B-Team. I also estimated the score of msc and Joey Russ - because I gave Ben Suisala a chance of obiting. I'm not sure if I made a real miscalculation there. Or actually, Pan Breed just ended up on the bad side of all my hedges - as you might recall, I also picked Alan Aspin and Ben Suisala in Shameless. So I gave them a much higher score than they received (zero). Then there was Abu Bakr al-Bahgdadi: For 2018, I have significantly reduced the expected score of him and all terrorists. I valued them too highly. On the other hand, I undervalued Golden Slumbers. After Drop 40 and unique bonusses he was 7th. I know, I undervalued Paul Van Zandvliet and completely ignored John Wetton. The difference between him and DQSP was 5 pts, so less than one hit. He won by one hit, and I think it's hard to predict the competition with such precision. All of Spade's survivors are also on the Love Boat, so my bias in favor of my own picks is also slightly present in that team. Golden Slumbers also had Patrick Cryne and Jerome Golmard who I didn't know about before. I had to make up a score for both. Though actually, since one of them died, and one didn't, it probably didn't distort all that much. There was Charles Bradley who, as you might remember, I knew about but didn't pick him because a german concert organiser told me that he was doing well in his cancer battle. He returned on tour, only to see the cancer return and kill him within weeks. I guess that's one of the things that just happen... I can pretty much see where about 10-15 missing points in my calculation came from. (Jagraj Singh was another miss. I picked him in the Deathrace, but didn't expect him to obit. He just barely did, with the least credible obit in DDP history....) I also wonder why Spade didn't pick Paul Van Zandvliet. Ok, enough navel gazing. I will definitely put up the team that my calculation thinks would have been the best. It will most likely not be the one I pick, because I don't want to pick more than 3 cancer mums/dads. -
DDP The Love Boat: Big successes next to stupid failures. One more hit and it would have been top ten. But I wanted more. The annual DDP cult pick didn't work (Rayya Elias). C+ The B-Team: Did much better than expected. Can't really complain. A Shameless 2.0: Made the triple digits (just barely and with the birthday bonus). But then I couldn't have hoped for more (except abolishing such names). I did not find a couple of names, especially Gordon Aikman. A- Deathrace: I continue to be bad at it. Why didn't I pick Mario Soares? I just don't know. D Hare's Deadpool: Disappointing. Couldn't even match last year's score. A couple of misfires, especially the german names. D (still got 11 hits, but others were simply better) Hartlepool Deadlypool: If this gets updated once more, I will probably not be doing all that bad. But the non-obit for Ben Suisala (and the early death of Jimmy Snuka) killed my chances. C Shaun's Death by Numbers: I am probably going to win it. In spite of a couple of non-obits. Since I basically just collected the best names out of my three DDP teams, it shows that my research was good enough to win some more, if I had been more focused. A- Rotten Deadpool: The team is still running until April 13th. I keep updating in my mind. 6/10. Still alive are George Bush Sr, Dilip Kumar, Hutton Gibson and Ginger Baker. 7/10 would be a personal best, I think it will happen. B ABC Deadpool: I'm leading, but also submitted early. So an achievement with some caveats.. B Windy City Deadpool: It will probably not match my expectations. Bracknell, Di Masi, Catherine Nevin... C+ Generation Game: Still leading as far as I know and I'm willing to call it a great success. Picking the baby boomers just has too many twists and turns to plan. A Poker Deadpool: Two hits behind Death Impends, but also 480 pts, so a lot of the difference is bonusses. I didn't want to give a couple of names away (like Suzanna Leigh), so I guess it's an ok performance. Wonderful idea, hope it starts again in January. I think I was also hampered by uuh... forgetting that it ends in December. B- Scavenger Hunt: Eh, could have been better. I guess, it could also have been worse, as I have no idea about cricket, or Doctor Who. C+ Edit: Deathlist Cup: Promising first rounds, but thoroughly slaughtered by DI. Was DI's best result and my worst, in that competition. So I shouldn't feel as ashamed as I do. I think I need to stop picking those typical very old, very frail, repeatedly hospitalized people, like Dilip Kumar, Sri Sri Sri XYZ.... (well, NOW he's dead), MK Karunanidhi, Billy Graham, there's a theme team in there... C

Last update (who's birthday is it today) was on 9/11. Maybe he/she got sad or something?
-
Sadly, I had a hit with King Michael.
-
Ahem sorry, I forgot to mention. Dmitri Hvorostovsky was a hit for me.

I will use a different email address to send my teams. I hope it's okay.

George Bush Senior Versus Mikhail Gorbachev

The Korean boyband member (SHINee?) was 27.

Regardless of whether he still dies this year or not, congratulations to the Dead Cow for his good judgement (and fantastic DDP performance). Could 2018 be the "year of Peru"?

Nawalny is the earliest living entry on my longlist. Things should be in order.
